Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Very satisfied with the service I received from Choice Home Warranty. They assigned the claim for my Maytag electric dryer to Silvertec Home Services. The Silvertec technician, Eric, was extremely knowledgable and very likable. He was throughout and repaired my dryer in a very timely and professional manner. Thank you Choice Home Warranty and Silvertec Home Services for rendering an outstanding job.

My technician was scheduled for the next morning after I made the claim. He gave me a call 30 minutes before his arrival. He was professional and fixed the issue within an hour. I was very satisfied!

Don't Enroll in This Company! FRAUD! I had a cracked heat exchanger and they refused to cover it. At first they said they wouldn't cover it because the damage "wasn't from normal wear and tear." Even though their technician said it was. So I paid another heat and air technician to come out and give me a second opinion. He also said it was a cracked heat exchanger, and the damage was from normal wear and tear. He slo mentioned it was rusty, but since it was an outside until, and properly encased in metal, and off the ground on a cement slab, with good ventilation, it was definately from normal wear and tear. I submitted this information to Choice Home Warranty and they denied the... Read More

The first call I made, they denied it, MY AC stopped working, the first comment from them is that it hasn't been maintained, even though I offered to show them the receipts every time the tech came out and the receipts for when we changed the filter every 3 months. 2. service call was when my toilet backed up into the shower, so we couldn't use the toilets or the showers, we called them, they said 48 hrs before someone can come out, really? What are supposed to do in the meantime, go to McDonalds for two days to use the bathroom?

The vendors that perform the work for Choice are decent, however, Choice >always< finds a way to try to get more money out of the customer. In this most recent case our garbage disposal blew up causing an additional leak in the pipe under the sink. Choice tried to make the fix of one separate from the other even though one caused the other and both would be fixed by the same vendor. Yes, Choice tried to charge our $60 “co-pay” twice for the same issue and made us log two tickets. It was only when I strongly objected to this that they decided not to charge us twice. This is only our second time having to call them but our first experience would require a lot more space as it was worse than... Read More
