Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

Cancellation Policy

The contract shall be non-cancelable by the company except for nonpayment of contract fees or service fees, fraud or misrepresentation of facts by the customer, or by agreement between client and company. Customers may cancel within the first 30 days of the order date for a full refund of the paid contract fees. If canceled after 30 days, the customer shall be entitled to a pro rata refund of the paid contract fee for the unexpired term, less a $50 administrative fee and any service costs incurred by the company.

Water heater failed by a leak in the tank. The company refused coverage because they do not cover water container inside - only the external controls (that will never fail). In reading contract, AC and heater are not covered for similar reasons. Pure deception in advertising. Pure fraud. Read contract carefully and you will see that you are not covered in large cost items. -- After complaint to them, agent offered several hundred dollars as a compromise and because we have been a customer for 4 years. Now, conveniently, they have no record of such an offer. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY !!!

I purchased coverage last night after hours via the internet. The coverage and terms where not what I had been lead to believe that I was purchasing. I called CHW this morning. After an extended time on the phone, they were able to adjust the coverage and cost to be in alignment with what I thought I was purchasing. I was immediately emailed the corrected coverage agreement. There was no additional cost to get this completed.

My gas furnace stopped working. Within 18 hours choice home warranty technician came home and fixed the issue. Customer support and follow up was excellent.

The first time we used Choice Home Warranty after moving to our new home was to repair our refrigerator. We filed the claim on 6/25. The first technician came, took the service fee and a week later was out of business. After that, we had technicians who were scheduled but never showed. Finally after ourcreal estate agent who bought the warranty for us contacted them we got a call from a manager. Our refrigerator finally got fixed by the 5th technician assigned to our case on Sept 26. Three months after filing our claim. This was our first encounter so we are hoping this is not a sign of things to come.

Even though garage door openers are covered in our contract, the "wheels" are not. We had to pay the normal service charge as well as the repair (which would have been $60 cheaper if we had called them ourselves). So insurance actually ended up costing us more than it would have without them. This is the second time the company seems to have found a loophole in our contract. We also had to pay for a new furnace because the serviceman found a small rust stain on the old furnace, even though he assured us that the rust had nothing to do with the equipment breakdown. I'm disappointed that Choice would rather find ways out of the contract that with helping us repair equipment.

I have to say, they are very good about getting your claim and assigning someone to the repair, that is excellent. I had two other claims regarding my fridge, 1st was the ice maker, did not cover that, cost me $425.00 to replace it, then there was a leak in the fridge, was told they do not cover leaks. Plan stated fridge covered, that is my frustration.

I submitted a claim Sunday nite because of no heat and was told to check on the status Monday. I received a call from New Jersey about 9:02 Monday telling me that an appointment had been scheduled for Wed, 2 Jan between 11:00AM and 3:00PM. At this point I was very disappointed. About 5-10 minutes later I received a call from Air Force A/C and HTG. After explaining the situation of having no heat and here in San Antonio in the coldshe said she would send someone out that same day. She called back and said a tech would be out between 11:30 and 12:00PM. But the tech arrived about 11:15 and diagnosed and replaced the part. Thanks to Air Force ac and htg.
