Our Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

I have been with this Choice Warranty Company for over two years. I have a policy on our Maryland residence and Virginia Beach residence. I renewed our policy through 2023 which has proven to be a big mistake. On September 24th, I filed a claim regarding our LG refrigerator not cooling at our Va Beach residence. I was notified on September 25th that an appointment had been set for a Sears Technican for September 30th between 1pm and 5pm (five days later). On September 30th the Sears Technican arrived and after 3 hours of diagnosing advised that Choice Home Warranty would not pay for the repair and was going to replace the refrigerator. Later, that day I received an email from... Read More

I didn't think the technician did a thorough job of finding out the problem with the leaks in the refrig. and what could be done to fix it. I was under the impression that replacing a part was going to solve the problem but was told by Choice that it was decided to replace the refrig. Great - except waiting for up to 30 days for a voucher to be issued for Lowe's is way too long when I have a refrigerator that isn't keeping cold and an excessive amount of water is leaking into it from the freezer. This is a matter to be dealt with ASAP - just not acceptable to be told it could take up to 30 days to receive the voucher for a new refrig. when time is of the essence!!! 3-5 days would be... Choice Home Warranty assigned Rocket Heating and Air to repair my HVAC system. The Technicians that came to do the repairs did a great job. They were friendly, professional and they had our air up and running in no time. As for Choice Home Warranty, I won’t be renewing my contract with them, in the three and a half years I’ve been with them, they have only approved the repairs on two claims, and of course the $45 deductible, covered most of the costs of the repairs completed. So buyer beware, if you need something fixed you will likely be money ahead to use Google and do it yourself, or hire a professional for the tough jobs.

I have the misfortune to have need for a number of service calls recently. I have had a number of home warranty companies over the years and Choice is, hands down, the best. I wouldn't have even considered a 3, 4, or 5 star rating for any others. Choice so fast at responding and helping get the problem resolved ASAP that I am always confident that they have my back covered.

My place needed wiring ( specifically a neutral wire) and this technician took care of it,even though after it was done the issue called for is still one,But he said he will come back eventually and check it out to see what was missed. this[ rewiring] was approximately double what the CHW fee is, however; worth it.I can highly recommend his services to anyone.

I am NOT a fan of the way CHW does business. I was not aware of this when I signed on. It is crazy that a tech comes to my house JUST to "diagnose" the problem and then they have to get approval from CHW before they can make ANOTHER appointment to come and actually fix it. Think about this from a customer's perspective - I have to take off work TWICE to get it repaired. Unacceptable. Had I known this is how CHW works, I would have never joined.
