Overall Rating: 4.6 / 5 (Excellent)

Choice Home Warranty offers a full array of home appliance and systems coverage at a competitive price. The company offers two plans for existing home owners —Basic and Total. In addition to a monthly premium, customers can expect to pay an $85 service fee each time they make a claim, which falls in low-to-mid range when compared to other home warranty companies.

You can submit a claim 24/7, including holidays, via phone, online, or app. The company utilizes proprietary technology to begin the dispatching process after a claim is filed. The company has recently updated their plans increasing coverage and has fewer limitations. Their plans and optional coverage can cover over 25 major systems and appliances.

Choice Home Warranty earns a B rating from the Better Business Bureau and has a positive rating on Trustpilot, but in this industry, negative customer reviews far outnumber positive ones.

Coverage Options - 4.5 / 5

Choice Home Warranty offers existing homeowners two plans, each of which cover a mix of systems and appliances. The primary difference between its Total plan and its Basic plan is that refrigerators, washers and dryers, and air conditioning systems are not included in the Basic Plan. Optional coverage for such items as pools and spas, well pumps, and septic systems is available for an additional fee. The company states that, in any case, its total liability for any single item is capped at $3000, but lower limits do apply to some covered items.

We requested a quote for a single family home of less than 5000 square feet in a small midwestern city. The premium for Choice Home Warranty's Basic was $47.85 per month and the premium for its Total pan was $54.95 per month. With the cost difference between the two plans being only about $7 per month, to our mind, the Total plan a better value overall because it includes coverage for three of the most common appliances: refrigerators, washers, and dryers. It also includes coverage for air conditioning systems.

The company's co-pay for a service call is $85, slightly less than most comparable companies. The co-pay may be reduced further with special discounts and promotions.

The seers technician arrived at my home while I was at work at the Supervisor Of Elections and checked out the refrigerator and found it needed parts to be replaced and told my wife that I would have to be there when he returned to help him move the food refrigerator. I am a disabled veteran and I am unable to do that I am feel that he needs to bring someone with him when he is repairing appliances. I cannot help him move the refrigerator. He also told my wife that a phone call would be sent to my phone number to pay the service call of $85. I have never received that call yet I am not very impressed with this service tech. He did not explain to my wife what all is to be done, just sent a... Read More

The technician from Expert Appliance was great. He diagnosed the problem right away. My issue is when you decide that "it is more cost effective to replace the unit than to repair it," I'm to receive a $191 Lowe's gift card - and it'll be up to me to purchase the replacement unit and have it installed. The cheapest similar unit cost is $229, and I still have to pay for installation; and that is after I already paid $75 to the technician. So I will have to spend an additional $38; plus $75 installation; and the $75 I already paid. So that's almost $200 out-of-pocket. That's not cost effective for me. I requested to talk to someone, who could give me some other option(s) - and the person... Read More

It has been very hit or miss with Choice. The technicians I have no problems with. They have all been very good. However, the people who take messages are very lax. For example, I had 2 service calls for my garage doors. The first service call you didn't cover (it was a door problem) but the service technician from Reliable Garage Doors fixed the problem. The second service call was because the spring broke. I told the person taking the all that it was not the same problem; but she put it in as a recall for the technician. He came and it was the spring. So he had to come again to fix it because he didn't have a claim number to fix it when he came. The other time was for my... Read More

Our technician did not show as scheduled. We waited all day. We called and were told he would be late, but he never came. Next day we called and were informed he again would come between certain times. He again did not show but called and said he would be there later. He did finally arrive the 2nd day. He was very nice and solved our problem right away. So while the actual visit was great, there was a breakdown in the company’s promise. If the company had been on top of it and informed us what was happening, we would be a lot happier.
