Monitronics is a respected provider of home security and home automation that serves just over 1 million US-based customers.

The company offers three packages, starting with a basic package at $34.95 per month. More advanced packages – HomeTouch Security and HomeTouch Premier – include an indoor video camera option and other smartphone-controlled home automation, including locks, lights and thermostat.

Additionally, medical alert systems are also available through HomeTouch Care and HomeTouch Care Plus packages, which include an indoor video camera and medical pendant or watch.

Bells and Whistles

  • The company's Alarm Response Center has a Five Diamond Certification from the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), which means 100% of its operators have achieved proficiency and certification.
  • Less than 3% of recognized North American monitoring centers have Five Diamond Certification.
  • Each of its CSAA-certified operators has completed more than 96 hours of classroom training and 8 weeks of hands-on mentoring; they're prepared for any emergency.
  • The Alarm Response Center has a redundant, 24/7 backup monitoring center as a safeguard against power outages.

Panel type is dependent upon availability. Monthly rates are based on 36-month or 60-month monitoring agreement and may increase after 12 months. Credit restrictions may apply. Minimum trip charges apply to Extended Service. Offers may be modified or discontinued without notice. Landline required.

The Bottom Line

Monitronics has a quality service with a consistently highly rated home security system. While they're not our top choice for a home security system, they're a respected company that offers quality products for homeowners.

Have been a customer for 3 years. I have had no problem with my service. No complaints with service. I had free equipment to start and paid for installation. That was understood, that since it was "FREE" it was paid for over the 3 years with a higher cost. I hope to renew with a lower "just monitoring" cost. Since many companies in my area charge around $20 a month, that is what I will shoot for....if they won't budge it will be bye bye. I am hopeful we can come to an agreement and I can keep my service and not have to switch.

No complaint about the service as I have only required service a very few times over about 4 years with this company. I am elderly and disabled. The battery in the base keeps failing and now won't even recharge itself and Monitronics wants over $100 to replace it. When I spoke to Tech support, she spent all her time quoting prices for each thing necessary to fix it. When it's working, it's theirs, but when it's not working, it's yours' and you must pay for every little thing. They also didn't care whether I stayed a happy client or walked away--which I'm going to do.

We have been waiting since Dec.21st for someone to CALL us to set up appt. for repair. My mother is 95 and relies on this to make her feel safe in her home. This is terrible service. Our contract is up and I don't think we will be renewing. I was told today Dec. 26th that the service company is closed for the holidays. Since Dec. 21st????????????

Promised us equipment substitutions (ie: swap the motion detector for a second smoke detector). I took the day off from work in order to be there for the installation. When the installer arrived he said there would be additional charges for the substitution - $400! I called the company who refused to honor their promise. I informed them that two separate reps made the same promise, and I have both conversations on tape. They still refused. I cancelled the installation. I won't commit 36 months to a company that loses trust before it even begins.

Monitronics is just the Monitoring Company watching over Alliance Home Security in my Area. We've had nothing but problems with our System since day 1 & Despite numerous calls to Alliance & Several calls with Monitronics NO ONE Will Fix the Problems or REMOVE The System. Put on Hold for over 2 hours with Alliance who refuse to address our issues. Do NOT Buy this System From Alliance....It's A huge Mistake!!

Bad company do not use it. Bad Customer service. Very expensive in comparison to others. When you move, they make you to renew the 36 months contract, so it is a never ending bad service. Vanessa

I've been in contact with one of the employees. They offered to send out a tech to see what's the problem with the alarm. Sadly, I had to cancel my service with this company. Overall my experience was okay.
