How does Fortress Security work?

Equipment - 3.4 / 5

Instead of providing pre-set plans or equipment packages, Fortress Security prefers to customize this for each consumer, in order to only sell exactly what each user needs. This decision is made in conjunction with a trained advisor who consults with home-or business owners over the phone. Every new security system, therefore, allows Fortress Security customers to choose between a wide range of components, including Door Sensors, Window Sensors, Motion Detectors, Glass Break Sensors, Smoke Detectors, and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

Since Fortress Security so heavily emphasizes the customization of its home security systems, it can be hard to determine the cost of a basic, standard system. However, the company does promote its monitoring at as little as $17.99 a month. It also mentions that customers must sign a 39-month (3 years, 3 months) contract in order to subscribe to monitoring services, though these can be transferred easily in case of a move.

Fortress Security Summary

In Conclusion

Every year there are an approximate 2,000,000 reported home burglaries in the United States, many of which gain access to the property through an unlocked window or door. Installing a home security system can virtually eliminate this possibility, by notifying homeowners whenever they leave any entry point unlocked. However, many home security companies business model can still leave a home vulnerable, as they sell their systems via pre-chosen packages, with a limited amount of individual devices. This means that customers then have to pay individually for each additional device, which can add up quickly. Apartment dwellers, on the other hand, may find themselves with an excess of sensors they don’t really need. Fortress Security takes a completely different approach. By allowing consumers to pick and choose exactly which devices they want to include, Fortress customers can build out their system to their specific circumstances, needs, and budget. Though this method requires a consultation with a Fortress representative, and customers won’t really know the total price of their equipment until the process is completed, having expert advice can be invaluable. Even somebody with a lower budget can find a solution to their home security needs--a good consultant will be able to recommend which entry points absolutely need a sensor, and where it’s okay to cut costs. While at 39 months, Fortress Security’s contract term length is slightly higher than usual in the industry, the company does allow customers to move their wireless systems, and its comprehensive monitoring services cover the U.S. from coast to coast. Wired devices may be more difficult. However, there is an auto-renewal clause in the contract which consumers should be aware of, as this may result in continuing billing if a cancellation is not completed within the appointed time. Overall, Fortress Security customers report high levels of satisfaction with both the system itself and the monitoring, enthusing about the excellent customer representatives and the small-town feel for a nationwide service.

The Fortress Security System is the WORST scam in the world. My husband and I purchased one and it was not compatible with newer modems/routers (as in 5GHz) so we tried, as suggested in their manual, the 2.4GHz option and it still did not work. How antiquated does a system need to be for this to work? I guess if I had the old Apple computer from the 80’s and knew who was buried in Grant’s tomb, I’d have an operational Fortress security system. When we called the customer service number, it took numerous tries to reach a human. When we finally did, the customer representative walked my husband through all the things he had already tried and eventually told him “since it wasn’t in the... Read More
