The company has partnered with Life Shield to offer do-it-yourself home security solutions that are easy to install and use and compatible with many smart home automation systems. LifeShield's portable products are ideal for both homeowners and renters. The self set-up product, known as ADT Self Setup, offers the option of designing your own system or choosing a pre-packaged set of products to suit your needs. You can also select between self- and professional monitoring.

ADT Self Setup equipment is provided by LifeShield. ADT and LifeShield merged in 2019.

You can build a custom system for your home starting at $179. You also have a choice of two pre-configured systems. ADT Self Setup packaged systems are fairly simple, consisting of door and window sensors, cameras and, in the case of the company's Starter Plus Kit, motion sensors. If you build your own system, you can also add temperature and flood detection. Compared to professionally installed systems, which often include smashed glass sensors and other safety features, ADT Self Setup is a little light on protection. But the company's systems are on par with other DIY products.
