Fine Print

The percentage in the Policy Pays column is the percentage of the policy’s maximum allowable charge that the policy will pay for covered services provided by either a participating dentist or a nonparticipating dentist.

Participating dentists accept the maximum allowable charge as payment in full.

Nonparticipating dentists may bill you for the difference between their charge and the maximum allowable charge paid by the policy.

Dependent children are eligible to age 26 in all states.

Summary

United Concordia offers flexible plans and do provide considerable discounts. Finding a dental insurance policy that suits your needs would not be difficult and their customer services will always be there to help. However, it does not provide the same network of dentists as seen with Delta Dental.

HORRIBLE. I had REAL dental insurance through my employer and it was fine. After retirement, I went with United Concordia. HUGE mistake. Their Number One priority is to deny, deny, deny and then treat you in an insulting manner. Even my dentist told me (too late) that they are the worst.

Horrid. My wife and I have dental (reimbursement only) through Highmark Medicare Advantage plans. Highmark recently contracted with United Concordia to administer their dental benefits. Previously, submission for reimbursement was simple. With United Concordia, good luck! First submitted online. Got no confirmation. When checking status 6 weeks later, was told they had no record of it, and that submissions could not be done online (even though the option was provided). So I downloaded the form, which asks for a ridiculous amount of detailed information from the dentist. The customer service rep at United Concordia told me that since it was for a routine exam and cleaning, just... Read More

United Concordia suddely went out of network with my dentist of 20 years and I am stuck with this program for 6 months. Before that, they refused complete repair of a broken tooth despite multiple failed repairs. Do not choose this provider.

Their customer service is the worst! Just try to get a card off of them. You use the website. It doesn't work. It keeps saying it is sending an activation that never arrives (I checked my spam). Then you send a contact form and someone sends you an email saying you have to call. You call and you can't get through because you don't have a "provider number." It's the biggest runaround. If you have days to waste, they might be okay, but if you actually have other things to do, I wouldn't recommend their insurance.

United Concordia reimbursements are ridiculous. They will not accept an assignment of benefits if a dental office is not in network so checks are sent to patient. I do not agree with this because it is forcing patients to go to someone in network that the patient may not get the same quality of care. Changes need to be made with United Concordia to stop insurances companies from doing this. A patient should be allowed to go to whichever dental office they want to without being forced to go to a dental office they may not want to go to.

The reimbursement for dental costs are ridiculous. Checks aren't sent directly to the dentist and the checks are a problem when attempting to mobile deposit. Banks have indicated it's United Concordia's problem. If going to an out of network dentist, the amount of money reimbursed is so minimal that it's not worth it. Very disappointed in United Concordia - my dentist stopped honoring them.

If you get your insurance through OPM I would think twice about using United Concordia. I made the mistake of switching to them in the 2021-22 open period. I had another insurance provider up until then an there was never any problem in them paying for crown work I needed. This past year United Concordia has denied everything. They use there own dentists, on their payroll, to review the claim and the policy is to deny, deny, deny. I am hit with over a $2500 bill for work needed. I would avoid United Concordia and think OPM should drop them. I am now on my second appeal and It looks like I will have to hire a lawyer to sue them. They definitely give insurance companies a bad name.

United Concordia is behind on payments to dentists in Delaware and dentists will not take new patience using United Concordia because United Concordia had failed to follow through with payments. Why am I paying for this insurance? Military dependents cannot rely on United Concordia to take proper care of them. Our experience and our friends experience with United Concordia has been extremely disappointing. I used the United Concordia dental list to find dental offices taking new patience. I called 11 dental offices and non of them were taking new patience. United Concordia has not updated their list, and their neglect wasted my time. I contacted untied Concordia and they didn't listen... Read More
