Overall Rating: 9.2 / 10 (Excellent)

USAA offers fairly standard coverage options, discounts, and additional benefits. That said, they have been able to perform remarkably well in terms of financial strength and customer experience. With exceptionally high ratings across the board, as well as a solid marketshare, USAA is an insurance provider well worth a prospective customer’s time.

USAA Coverage

Basic Coverage

  • Bodily Injury Liability
  • Property Damage Liability
  • Collision
  • Comprehensive
  • Personal Injury
  • Medical Payments
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

Additional Coverage

  • Rental Reimbursement
  • Towing & Labor Cost

Coverage & Benefits - 9 / 10

From liability to uninsured motorist, USAA’s coverage options don’t stand out from their competitors. This is fairly standard in the car insurance industry, however, in which most companies offer all the same things. Their additional benefits are quite good, including rental car, towing, and labor cost reimbursement.

USAA is the sole underwriter of its policies, and can therefore enjoy sole responsibility for their 5.46% marketshare and near $12 Billion in premiums. This positive financial outlook is backed by its good ratings of AA+ and A++ from Standard & Poor's and AM Best, respectively.

  • Multiple Vehicle
  • Safe Driver
  • Student
  • Bundled Policy

Pricing and Discounts - 9 / 10

USAA offers very little in the way of discounts, especially as compared to its industry competitors. They do offer some provisions for students, safe driving records, and holders of multiple vehicles or policies.

USAA client for over 30 years. Generally satisfied even though lately I was unable to talk anyone about a recent problem other than the call center person who was unable to help or put me in touch with someone who could. I tried the to submit a comment on the website and the comment dialogue box would not even open. With a clean driving record and no violations for over ten years, I received a speeding ticket while traveling out of my home state on a trip. The ticket was settled with a payment of $39.00, which I sent in when returning home. USAA is now charging me $112.00 per year for 3 years with no possible appeal or remedy for years of loyalty. Communication is difficult now and... Read More

USAA lost my trust and my business when I found out they don't care about Veterans, but that it's only about the money. I have a son that made a bad decision and has a felony charge, and because we allow him to live with us, USAA contacted me and dropped both my home and auto insurance because he is living in my home. He served his time, and I feel that USAA is trying to be their own judge and not only charging him, but me as a Veteran of 20 years (I still work on a military installation supporting our troops) because I allow him to live with me. Be very weary of doing business with USAA. I called yesterday to discuss the issue, and after 15 minutes on hold while they attempted to... Read More

I have been a client of USAA for 46 years. I have had multiple automobile claims and homeowner insurance claims. Each incident has been handled quickly and has left me very satisfied with their attitude and service. I was speaking to the owner of a collision repair shop and explaining what I wanted done on the vehicle. He stopped me and said, "That is up to the insurance company." When I told him that I had USAA, he laughed and said there would be no problem. "They will do whatever you want." It was an exaggeration but very close to the truth. The insurance is the only insurance that has a "Subscriber's Savings Account" that I am aware of in the industry. Over the last 10 years, a... Read More

This company is the worst. They are all for your money not for the people. As a veteran I’m very disappointed.

We've had USAA for fifty (yes, FIFTY!) years now and wouldn't even consider changing to another company. Along the way we've had a few claims (both auto and homeowner's), and in addition to the claims being handled fairly, quickly, and efficiently, we've never experienced any significant rate changes as a result. Speaking of rates, when comparing you'll definitely want to consider the fact that USAA offers an annual "rebate"; the amount of which is based on a formula of how much you paid in premiums, and their loss experience. Part of this rebate is awarded in cash (or credit to your current premium), and part is deposited in a "Subscriber Savings Account" with the company (and the... Read More
