With outstanding financial stability and over 100 years of experience in the industry, Liberty Mutual has secured its position as a global force in the auto insurance market.

The company provides policyholders with an unrivaled selection of discounts and excellent benefits, making up for their higher-end premiums.

Although their coverages are not as inclusive as those offered by other leading insurers, their quickly expedited claims processing gives them a leg up on the competition.

Coverage - 4 / 5

Liberty Mutual has some of the most thorough plans in the auto insurance market, offering standard and comprehensive coverages, along with additional benefits such as new and better car replacement options, accident forgiveness, guaranteed repair, and even teacher's insurance.

They do, however, fail to provide certain basic protections like uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages, or towing and labor costs.

New Car Replacement - Provides customers with funds to purchase a new car if theirs is totaled. Accident Forgiveness - Premiums won't go up due to a policyholder's first accident as long as they have been accident and violation free for five years. Liberty Mutual Insurance boasts A ratings from all three major U.S. credit rating agencies, as well as A.M. Best. Their stable long and short-term issuer credit scores attest to the company's ability to pay their policyholder's claims.

Liberty Mutual offers the most common auto insurance discounts, such as multiple vehicle, safe driver, vehicle safety, student, and bundled policy discounts, as well as additional savings opportunities for new graduates, retirees, teen drivers, and returning clients.

This broad range of discounts partly compensates for their higher-than-average rates, which can range between $130 and $370. However, Liberty Mutual does set itself apart from other big players in the industry by offering a pay-by-the-mile car insurance option, which bases premiums on clients' base and per-mile rates.

Teen Driver Discount - Rewards teens for responsible drivers. New Graduate Discount - Offers special savings for new graduates. New to Liberty Mutual Discount - Available for clients who add or change a vehicle on their policies. I was happy until I had a very small incident with another car. First one I had. They advertise they will not raise your rate if you have a first accident. FALSE. After the little incident I had they almost doubled my rate. I am changing companies. My rating 00000.

Switched to LIberty Mutual and after three months switching to another carrier. This company doesn't disclose all the facts. The new car replacement advertised on TV ? Costs you extra money. When shopping prices, they tell you that if you sign up for Right track (gps tracker for 3 mos) you get a 10% discount and can earn up to 30% with additional discounts. So you say yes for at least the 10 percent right? Wrong, they didnt tell you that after 3 mos they can take all or part of that 10% away and good luck with any additional discounts. Very sneaky as they are not actually lying, only disclosing the good stuff. My son was stopped at a light and someone ran into the back of him and... Read More

A Liberty Mutual customer ran a light and hit me. Forget LM ads that say they will replace your car, they want to pay me 60% of what it would cost to replace it. Their formula is a pile of crap. Thier customer was under-insured so I have to go to my insurance company under the uninsured motorist part. I will still lose $6,000 for LM underappraisal of my vehicle. LM is not the company they claim to be in there TV ads. No ethics, just a company that wants to steal from every accident.

Liberty Mutual promotes predatory actions. Your first time payments are competitive but coming renewal time, their rates for the renewal can be as high as 16% over the previous year. In addition, if you cancel the insurance prior to the renewal date, you will be billed penalty changes that are obnoxious and hidden in your contract. Trying to appeal these charges takes you nowhere as they will not respond to your complaints. My recommendation is -don't use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Liberty Mutual was Not there for me, as your commercials tout. Hopefully this company has changed since 2014. My isNsurance with Liberty Mutual was cancelled, when I was in the middle of a Mastsr's program at Georgetown University (which I finished successfully). What was there reason why? Apparently there was a $17 dollar or less change in my yearly premium, and I had an automatic payment set up monthly to the original price of my insurance plan. I was too busy to take note of the surpiseIng "change" in my premium, resting on the knowledge that my automatic payments were being made. Alas, my policy was cancelled, without a single phone call from your company to inquire about the... Read More
