With outstanding financial stability and over 100 years of experience in the industry, Liberty Mutual has secured its position as a global force in the auto insurance market.

The company provides policyholders with an unrivaled selection of discounts and excellent benefits, making up for their higher-end premiums.

Although their coverages are not as inclusive as those offered by other leading insurers, their quickly expedited claims processing gives them a leg up on the competition.

Coverage - 4 / 5

Liberty Mutual has some of the most thorough plans in the auto insurance market, offering standard and comprehensive coverages, along with additional benefits such as new and better car replacement options, accident forgiveness, guaranteed repair, and even teacher's insurance.

They do, however, fail to provide certain basic protections like uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages, or towing and labor costs.

Coverage Fine Print

New Car Replacement - Provides customers with funds to purchase a new car if theirs is totaled. Accident Forgiveness - Premiums won't go up due to a policyholder's first accident as long as they have been accident and violation free for five years. Better Car Replacement - If their car is totaled, policyholders can receive money for the purchase of a vehicle that is one year newer and has 15,000 fewer miles than their own. Deductible fund - Lowers the amount of the collision deductible and the money the policyholder must pay out-of-pocket in the event of a claim. The company will contribute an initial 100 dollars into the account to get it started. Guaranteed Repair - When customers choose to have their vehicles fixed at a Guaranteed Repair Network facility, the company will ensure the repairs for as long as the policyholder owns the car. Liberty Mutual offers the most common auto insurance discounts, such as multiple vehicle, safe driver, vehicle safety, student, and bundled policy discounts, as well as additional savings opportunities for new graduates, retirees, teen drivers, and returning clients.

This broad range of discounts partly compensates for their higher-than-average rates, which can range between $130 and $370. However, Liberty Mutual does set itself apart from other big players in the industry by offering a pay-by-the-mile car insurance option, which bases premiums on clients' base and per-mile rates.

Discounts Fine Print

Teen Driver Discount - Rewards teens for responsible drivers. New Graduate Discount - Offers special savings for new graduates. New to Liberty Mutual Discount - Available for clients who add or change a vehicle on their policies. Highly advise against using this company. I am attempting to get a dental claim paid under medical on a policy taken over from another company by Liberty. I have been attempting for several days to get help, have been given nothing but the run around, transferred around on the phone, and have actually had my calls "dumped" when transferred to a bogus line. I am now working on filing a complaint with them with official agencies.

I've been stranded in Louisiana, I'm from Michigan, since 1/11, and they still have not had my car picked up for assessment. It's now end of business day 1/16. I had to be very assertive to get any assistance. Now they are responding and getting what I hope to be accurate information.

I decided to look into switching from my present carrier to someone else since I had been with them for over three years and wanted to see what rates I could find. Applied to Liberty Mutual on line and filled out the info for Auto and home ins to replace the one I now had. Got a quote from them for both Auto and Home and did some tweeting to get what I wanted and they came back with a price of $281 per month and I could get a discount if I paid for 6 months or 12 at one time. I accepted their offer and had them take the funds out of my checking account for the 6 months. They said there might be a slight change in the finial amount. Two days later I get an email saying that my insurance had... Read More

I recently switch to liberty mutual for both home and auto. Overall the rates were better than what I had and I'm not unhappy with the company. However, I did feel the quoting and sales process was somewhat deceptive. Over the course of our conversation, at 4 different points I was given what was presented as a "quote", and asked for verbal confirmation to continue with the purchase. Each time was followed by "a couple more questions". And each time the rate went up. I answered all questions exactly the same as I had for the online quote, yet my final rates were several hundred dollars higher than the initial quote. I'm sure these practices are not uncommon in this competitive market, but... Read More

Beware! There are terrible telephone reps at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for roadside assistance. Unprofessional and a disgrace. They don't understand that when you call roadside assistance, it's because your car broke down and you need help. I called and provided all of the information requested and the telephone rep (girl) that I spoke with kept getting my policy number wrong, my name wrong, my phone number wrong, my location wrong, and the address wrong where I wanted the vehicle to be towed to. While I was repeatedly correcting her, she thought it was funny. I really believe that she was enjoying taunting me. I was very upset about not only the vehicle breaking down, but I also... LM offers free roadside assistance. Today is August 12, 2019 and its around 100 degrees here in Atlanta. I am literally on one of the busiest streets in Sandy Springs, just north of Atlanta, but withing the 285 Perimeter. Easy access to everything. I have been waiting since 3:00 PM for a tow truck. Its now 6:00. Call a few minutes ago they said it may be another 40 mins. If I was out in the boonies or Alaska, I get it. Not in the center of town. Been a customer for almost 17 years. I am shopping around now. I have had it.

Absolute hell. Worst experience I've ever had with any company in my life. Customer service agents "at the front of the house" act nice/polite enough even told me a nice story of how everything should be covered but when I found out nothing would be covered from the actual claims agent who handles what will and won't be covered, I was naturally upset as I had to end up losing my place of residence from the financial hit. Also, since then, every agent I encountered was quick to being incredibly condescending and emotionally malicious (I think they possibly flagged my account with a note other agents can see or something). Hopefully, it's over now as I called in to cancel my policy with... Read More

I have been a Liberty Mutual client for nearly 10 years. I have auto, house and an umbrella policy with them. There coverages are excellent and comprehensive, with the second paragraph of the above coverage description being 100% inaccurate. I have always had both uninsured and underinsured as well as towing coverage - on both of my cars. the real benfit of Liberty is their claim experience. Regrettably,I have had to submit several auto claim, both liability and collision. In every case the claim was handled rapidly and efficiently and all repair costs, except my deductible, were immediately fully paid with no balking or haggling. The claims experience was actually enjoyable.... Read More

Trash company. They went from charging $120 a month to to $350 a month in 6 months. This is the kind of company that will start you off with a low rate and then bump it up. I just paid that fist month and switch to Geico. DON'T USE THEM !! SCAMMERS !!

I am very unhappy with this company! They are very misleading in their sales explanation as to how the Right Track program works. You do not get a discount at the end of the Right Track trial but rather an increase as very few obtain the percentages they give you. They tell you that once you have completed the trial you will qualify for a discount of anywhere from 5%- 30% discount which is untrue. When I called to inquire as to why I did not see a discount in my monthly premium once the trial was completed I was told that they had quoted me a premium showing a 10% discount (which the rep did not explain) and that at the end of the trial I only qualified for 7% so my premium increased by 3%.
