I've been a customer since 1987. I was always pleased until these last few years. I was involved in 2 accidents in the last year, rear ended once t-boned once. Both cases was the other drivers' fault. 1st claim American Family did almost nothing to help get my expenses from the other insurance company. It took 3 months just to get contact info. The claim took a year to settle. The 2nd claim had AmFam taking 26 days to decide to total my vehicle. I was reimbursed within a few months but now I can't get insurance anywhere else. Why you ask? AmFam didn't get reimbursed for everything they claimed so the claim went to arbitration. I can't get coverage until the claim is closed. On... Read More

I'm not even going to get into what this insurance company is. Their employees such as adjusters and claim consultants mush have barely graduated from high school because the claims consultant i spoke with told me that speed of a vehicle can't be determined using the skids marks left behind at an accident. SERIOUSLY???!!!!!!!!! Who hired that guy? Please listen to my advice and stay away from this insurance company. They ARE NOT on your side. Also very cheap when trying to repair your car. Not sure how they are still in business.

In the past 10 years I had three claims to repair 2 comprehensive damage and one not at fault collision damage to my auto. In all three repair processes it was an uphill battle to get repairs processed. American Family's administrative management is embarrassing. I felt sorry for the repair shop let my aggravation. Their claims adjuster's that came to look at the car missed probably 50% of the damage. When I made this known they told me not to worry about because supplementals submitted by the body shop will take care of it. I warned them of management pitfalls however they stated their process is automated and everything will be quickly taken care of. To not draw this out this once great... Read More

Every year I get notices whereby they decrease the insurance coverage while demanding the same premium. This year they started charging for towing whereas I never paid for that before. But the worst aspect is where they compel me to insure the house for more than the cost to rebuild it. Even if the assessed valuation has nothing to do with rebuilding costs, they still raise the premium. This is what happens when degregulation takes over.

Out of the 23 - 24 years of having their insurance, had to use them very little. Then get is an accident with someone who has same insurance, other party sited. They total my car, and low ball me a price. I counter the offer, they do not want to budge, AT ALL! Not even $1.00 over. This is still on going, when it is over I will write another review, but for now since it is almost a month into it... I am giving them one star. I am VERY disappointed. Wish I would have known this 24 years ago. At this point, I am researching for a new insurance company. They are not worth the money I have spent.
