Generali scored high with us because, as travel insurers go, they offer some of the most comprehensive coverages, highest payout maximums, and many additional policy features other providers don't. All standard trip interruption and cancelation reasons are provided for, and then some. Additionally, the company has generous provisions for baggage and trip delays. Generali really shines when it comes to its traveler assistance services. Along with all the usual customer assistance features, the company also makes provision for such things as specialty food delivery, an emergency cash advance of $500, and travel companion meet and greet services. Pound for pound, one of the most extensive offerings out there.

Generali Global Assistance Plans & Coverage

Generali offers some of the highest payout maximums in travel insurance coverage of the plans we evaluate. The company will cover up to a whopping $250,000 max for medical care, and up to $1 million for emergency medical transportation. There are three plan levels that, aside from a few items, only differ in maximum payouts for certain coverages. The Standard (cheapest) plan only differs in that it won't provide reimbursement for sporting equipment damage or delay, and only provides accidental death & dismemberment coverage if injured in an air flight accident. Generali also stands out in the trip interruption/cancellation category. They will reimburse up to 175% the cost of the trip due to trip interruption, and also provide a generous $1,000 travel delay reimbursement. If you purchase the premium plan, the coverage kicks in after a mere 6-hour delay. Generali, unique among travel insurers, also provides trip cancelation coverage in the event of sickness/death of a service animal. In addition to all the standard trip cancellation reasons, the company also includes coverage if you are unable to get a vaccination necessary for travel, and coverage if you have to cancel due to notification of a successful organ match. Some additional coverages of note include optional rental care damage coverage, up to $10,000 to transport a companion to your bedside if you are under emergency medical care, and reimbursement for unauthorized use of credit cards.

This company has the worst possible communication I filed a claim the last of July and never heard from anyone. Despite multiple calls and left messages I still didn't receive a return call. By mid Sept. I have just recently been able to speak to a supervisor who confirms they are in receipt of all necessary information to make a decision on my claim but state this will take another 2 weeks. I am a recently diagnosed cancer patient in chemo. The added stress of trying to get a refund for weeks, on a trip that hD to be canceled is unbelievable

Better price and coverage than others for my age group. Use of website was easy. However, a look at policy caused concern as coverage begins immediately rather than end of September when actual travel takes place. Does this invalidates coverage after end of travel date?

We’ve traveled and used coverage with Generali before with our 2018 Philippines trip. The experience has always been seamless. Navigating the site is fairly intuitive and the language used is comprehensible. All documentation we required were sent electronically. We had an incident while we were there, and the claim intake/submission was easy to complete. We’re using Generali again to cover us on an upcoming trip to the Mexican Riviera. The peace of mind is well worth the value. We can’t imagine not having Generali coverage in all future travels.

Went smooth. My only question is whether a pdf with insurance cards will be sent. In the past, with other travel insurance, that was standard procedure. We would print out the cards and laminate them. We would like to each be carrying an insurance card on the trip. I have searched the system and what was sent but have not seen them. Otherwise, so far, it has been easy to navigate the application process. The real proof will be what happens if we need the insurance. My hope is that we won’t.

After purchasing a travel insurance from Generali I have following issues: 1. I have created an account and also successfully verified my email address. Then I tried to log in, but it was in vain: I was being returned to the home page again and again. 2. In Schedule of Benefits followed after Policy Confirmation Letter my wife as insured person is noted twice but me (an applicant) is missed at all.

Been waiting three months for a reimbursement on my claim, I keep being asked for the same documents, over and over again. I call, no response, I’m an administrator I’m good at putting together everything that is required. Terrible at responding, terrible at communicating. Don’t do it! I bought through DiversAlertNetwork. Won’t do it again.
