I bought policies for my 27 year old daughter and myself prior to a tour to Machu Pichu and the Galapagos. I carefully reviewed the policy prior to purchase which was much less expensive than that offered by our tour company. I became ill and was not able to complete the last portion of the tour. I saved all my medical documentation, airline receipts and tour payment receipts. Our claims were paid out within ten days of filing, and customer service was excellent!! I initially called Travel Guard from Quito and they were very helpful. They patiently answered all my questions about documentation and reimbursement, and went above and beyond expectations. My daughter and I was going to Jamaica for a much needed get away. But life had other plans for us. My daughter cancer spread and she ended up in the hospital for a week. Yes I had to fill the forms out and her doctor wrote up a letter stating what was going on. I faxed everything and I had to call a couple of times but by 15 days later of sending the information. I received my money back in my account. The rating is the way it is only because for awhile there I thought I was getting the run around. But the last person I spoke with gave me a reviewer cause she could not help me. And the problem got solved. I think they need to train the customer service better.
We bought travel insurance prior to a 6 week trip to Indonesia. We are Sr citizens (age 71 and 68). During our time in Bali my husband had to go to the hospital. We filed our claim upon return 5/24. We received our reimbusement within 2 weeks for our medical expenses. I am so grateful we decided to buy travel insurance and I definitely would recommend Alliance.
I bought this insurance on the advice of Auto Club to cover our motorcycle trip to Canada. Unfortunately I filed a claim for trip interruption due to one of the vehicles being undriveable (torn belt from gravel work by WA state DOT) and we missed a night in a prepaid hotel. That’s when I found out Allianz doesn’t cover vehicle trips - it is geared to cruises, flights and guided vacations. I didn’t meet any of the criteria to qualify, although it was sold to me originally that way. I probably will purchase this again but only for the medical coverage and emergency evacuation while vacationing in Canada. Otherwise, it’s useless if you’re driving yourself, IMHO
Terrible customer service. I have no idea why they are rated so high. I thought you purchased their service for assistance not for hindrance. The companies CEO must be a billionaire since they take your money and do not reimburse you for anything. I have no idea who these people think they are. My husband was deathly ill with the flu right before a trip we had booked almost a year earlier. After filling out page after page of information and receipts our claim was denied. I guess he should have just flown with the flu and made hundreds of people sick instead.
We cancelled a trip after purchasing this insurance. Completing 17 pages including 5 by our physician. Our claim was denied. It seems there are so many exclusions to this policy you would need to be dead to make a claim. Do not purchase this insurance until you read the detailed exclusions. We unfortunately did not. We have always purchased insurance with other carriers and never used it. I know the last policy from a different carrier had no exclusions. Shame on you Allianz Travel.
DO NOT BUY THIS INSURANCE! They will take your money, and if you have a trip cancellation for non-medical reasons, they will DO NOTHING for you. The claim that they cover trip cancellation or interruption is A LIE with a little asterisk at the bottom to cover it up.

Allianz was extremely helpful when I became very ill in Lisbon. They guaranteed $20,000 to the hospital (which is secondary insurance and they they worked with my primary insurance and I paid nothing), they flew my sister to Portugal to assist me (she is a doctor and I was by myself), they then flew an EMT from Canada who met me at the hospital and flew me to Spokane, Wash. because I still had an IV in for antibiotics when I was discharged. They also booked us in 1st class. It was helpful that I had one person who was my main contact and knew my situation well. They were amazingly helpful and took care of so many details. I really appreciated their concern and help.
