Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I'm so glad I have healthy for my four legged babies! We've had some unfortunate events which resulted in our little pitbull to have surgery on two separate occasions. The folks at healthy paws were amazing! They processes my claims super fast and even emailed to check in to see how her recovery was. I've recommended them family, friends, and coworkers.

Best company EVER! Absolutely love them. They’ve allowed me to seek out the best medical care for my cats and not worry about the financial aspect of it. I am so glad we bought insurance right away on our adopted rescue puppy. Several months after we got her, she unexpectedly ended up needing surgery. We have received great claim service. Plus, the one time I called Customer Services with a question, I received very friendly and knowledgeable assistance. Their system is very user-friendly when it comes to uploading your invoices and medical history in order to file a claim. The rates are really good for the coverage. I would highly recommend them.

My little Mia is a rescue and a mixed breed puppy (only 1 yr old) so I did not anticipate facing a serious surgery at all much less so early in her life. Having Healthy Paws behind us has made all the difference in the world! I cannot tell you what a relief it has been to be able to just focus on her and not stress over the costs of her surgery. With my previous dogs I didn't have insurance and has made all the difference in the world for me! She is the light of my world and her surgery was very scary to face, but my vet is amazing and the Healthy Paws insurance made it so much better. Low monthly cost for total peace of mind, we are customers for life!

We have Healthy Paws insurance for all four of our pets. Filing a claim is VERY easy (especially if you use the app) and reimbursement for services is very fast. If you've ever taken a pet to the ER vet, then you know those bills add up quickly. I can't say enough good things about having this insurance for our animals! It allows us to make medical decisions for our pets based on what is the right treatment for them, and not based on how much it costs. Our dog was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, and because we had pet insurance, we were able to give her the care she needed to make a full recovery...a year later she is living life like a puppy - full of energy, happy and healthy.... Signing up with Healthy Paws Health Insurance was the smartest thing I did when I got my puppy "Frog". At 7 months old, a health issue came up for Frog and his 80% coverage has been a life saver! Frog had the surgery he needed and I have been able to concentrate on his recovery without the stress of the financial burden. Submitting a claim couldn't be easier, reimbursement turn around is fast and the personal attention from their customer service department lets you know that Healthy Paws understands how our pets touch our lives. As I said, getting Healthy Paws insurance was the best decision I made for Frog.

Having an ill pet is stressful and expensive. When we adopted a German Wire Haired Pointer knowing that we would use him as a working dog I knew insurance was a must. After much research I chose Healthy Paws. Recently he got himself in big trouble by ingesting sugar free gum containing Xylitol thus requiring an emergency trip to the vet with an overnight stay and follow up testing. The process for submitting a claim was very simple. I simply snapped a picture of the vet bills, attached them to the claim form and requested the vet fax all medical records. I've had insurance with Healthy Paws for about 4-5 months before my 11 month old puppy broke her front leg and needed immediate surgery. My costs totaled to about 5,000 and did not have the money upfront. After calling Healthy Paws and asking a couple of representatives they directed me to a Direct To Pay option that Healthy Paws offers if you are not able to meet the costs upfront. Even though the logistics took some time and I had to constantly follow up they pulled through and we only paid our 10%!
