Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

My dog had to be taken to the emergency hospital on Thanksgiving where he spent three days. I filed my claim on 12/2, checks were in hand on 12/10. The communication throughout the process was excellent. I know it’s easy to feel when filing on line that you will end up in a black hole, Healthy Paws let me know where I was in the process everyday. My claims were paid exactly per my policy..no questions asked. I have two dogs covered by Healthy Paws, best decision ever.

I highly suggest healthypaws to all pet owners I meet. I have had a couple health issues with my frenchie and they have been there along the way. I have had zero issues with Healthypaws which has allowed me to focus on ensuring my boy Claude gets the best care possible.

Healthy Paws has been great. My dog has some medical issues and they are always there to help out with the costs. Most recently he had to have surgery and Healthy Paws actually checked in to see how he was doing. They really care. I cannot thank them enough.

I love this pet insurance. I had insurance for all my pets for many years with other provider whom I was happy until they got sold to another company who forced all customers to change policies, I did not want to and by the time of my renewal they use any excuse possible to get me out; unfortunately one of my dogs got sick and sadly died after surgery and I got not insurance. They tried to get me back which of course I refused. Then I found Healthypaws and couldn't be happier. Best possible options for my pets needs, fair priced, fair deductibles, excellent customer service and wonderful claim processing system.

Best insurance company I have dealt with! Not only are claims processed fast but in a way that makes sense and is easy to understand. I recently submitted a large claim from my puppy being admitted to the ER and aside from the confirmation emails that everything was processed I received a completely separate and personalized email asking how Benni’s tummy issues were doing and if he was feeling better. Shocking to get this care and attention from an insurance company!

We’ve had insurance with Healthy Paws on our French Bulldog Genji ever since we first got him. Earlier this year, our vet said he needed to get airway surgery on his nose, soft palate, and larynx so he could breathe better. I did my research and was worried that he might not be covered because bulldogs can often develop breathing problems later in life, but Healthy Paws gave me absolutely NO hassle with the claim and was true to their word. I didn’t even have to fill out a form or anything. I had the surgery center send them the records by email after the procedure, and they reimbursed it at our coverage rate, no questions asked. We have had nothing but very positive experiences with Healthy Paws. Unfortunately, our dog is plagued with severe allergy problems and has required frequent and costly treatment over the past 3 years. Healthy Paws has approved every claim we've submitted for medications and surgeries related to her allergy problems. We did quite a bit of research before selecting an insurance provider and we are so glad we chose Healthy Paws. I recently got a new Golden retriever puppy, Murphy. After having many health issues with my five previous Goldens a friend suggested I get pet insurance. She assured me that Healthy Paws was by far the best choice ( from her own experiences). Thankfully I took her advice. Because he is a very busy puppy and we live on a lake, a few weeks back he found a fish hook and line someone left in the grass where we walk everyday. He started choking, I found the line coming out of his mouth. Took him to my vet and fortunately they were able to remove the hook and the line. A couple years ago, I decided to get pet insurance for my year-old kittens. I could find no clear comparison between companies—it was worse than car insurance. I opted to go with Healthy Paws based on a friend’s personal experience. Later that year, one of my girls was diagnosed with renal disease—quite rare in a female year-old cat! She now sees a specialist every few months to monitor progression of her disease, and Healthy Paws has been there every step of the way.
