Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

I enrolled my dog Pearl for coverage with Healthy Paws shortly after adopting her in 2016 and am forever grateful that I did--they've been a terrific partner. I've submitted several claims over the past 3 & 1/2 years, from an illness-related hospitalization to recent CCL repair (knee surgery). Healthy Paws is an amazing insurance company. We have had to make two large claims in the past three years. Each time our claims were processed very quickly with no questions or issues. All we had to do is upload a copy of our vet's invoice, and they took care of the rest. The whole process took less than two weeks, from filing the claim to receiving the check! And to top it off, the contacted us after each surgery to see how our Lab was doing! This company is fast, efficient and they also have a big heart for animals!

Healthy Paws has been very helpful with our pup. He had an incident that required a TPLO surgery which was $7k! Thanks to Healthy Paws this unplanned expense was much more affordable. Well, low and behold, the recovery of knee one placed a lot of strain on his other knee and he had the same symptoms. So within 1 year he required 2 surgeries at $7k each. There was some growing pains on the 1st claim, but the 2nd claim has been butter smooth and fast response. They reached out after his second surgery to check how he was coming along with his recovery. I highly recommend this affordable cost of insurance for all pet owners and will be a longtime customer.

Signing up with healthypaws was the best decision I've made for my beloved Leia, 2 years old German Shepherd. The curious nature of GS, Leia likes to lick and chew everything she sees interest and causes her to have serious cases of diarrhea. We have to go through fecal tests, blood tests and even X-ray which comes with a high medical cost. Luckily, we have healthy paws which save us a lot for the treatment. Our vet office submit the claim for us and it was reimburse us within 7-10 business days. It was easy and simple. If you love your pets, please have insurance. With my experience, i would recommend healthypaws for your pet anytime.

When I adopted my puppy Frances, I knew I wanted pet insurance for her, after having spent a great deal of money on previous pets. We just made our first claim a couple of weeks ago, as Frances has been struggling with a serious illness that we are still trying to get to the bottom of. The worst thing to have to consider when your beloved dog partner is sick, is whether you can afford a diagnostic test, and any ensuing treatment. I have had a great experience with Healthy Paws, and I have recommended them to quite a few friends. They are quick to process invoices, and reimbursements happen quickly and as expected. Every vet bill we've received has been processed exactly as I would have expected, with no hidden fees or surprises, and no questions asked. My 3 year old pup has already needed 2 significant types of treatment, first, she was hospitalized for 2 nights when she was sick and became severely dehydrated as a result. Healthy Paws has always gone above and beyond to insure our rescue pups, and the amount of coverage for the price is beyond compare! We did our research before choosing an insurance company for our dogs, and Healthy Paws had better coverage for less of a monthly payment, with no limits on maximum dollar amount of coverage per year per dog. For example, one of our dogs had ACL surgery, and Healthy Paws covered 80% of the surgery! We have had Healthy Paws for several years. We have four pets insured by them. My dog Moose required knee surgery which we had just paid the year before for our dog Dakota at a cost of $12,000 (hence the reason we purchased insurance). We were skeptical that they would (1) allow us to go to the same Dr (others in town are far less expensive) and (2) would cover the claim. They surprised us by allowing us to use our Doctor despite being more expensive (this surgery for Moose was I think $4,000 if I recall) and they covered the claim quickly. Awesome experience. I try to recommend them as often as possible.
