Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Healthy Paws really came through for me. My dachshund mix became paralyzed three times this year due to discs that herniated. He was diagnosed with intervertebral disc disease and it could happen again. Healthy Paws reimbursed me at 80% of each surgery after the $250.00 deductible. Healthy Paws coverage at least kept me from facing a financial crisis while I deal that with restoring my dog’s health. I highly recommend Healthy Paws. You never know what might happen.

Never having purchased pet insurance before when we got our puppies we decided this time around that we should get insurance... but I didnt know where to go and decided on healthy paws after an internet search reading reviews like this. I can't say enough about Healthy Paws. My pup has had several health issues and surgeries in her 6 years, and Healthy Paws has been there to get us through it. I honestly couldn't have done it without them. The claim process is so easy, you can snap a pic of the invoice and supporting docs, or you can scan and email. My claims are usually processed within a couple days. Any time I've had to call, I got through to someone right away and never had to wait on hold. The whole process is so fast and simple. They are overall AMAZING!! I will never have another pet without Healthy Paws insurance.

I've had Healthy Paws pet insurance for both of my cats for a number of years, and I'm so glad that I do. Both cats have had various health issues that have ended up costing a significant amount of money, which was stressful. But the Healthy Paws claims process is very simple and painless, and they process payments quickly. This has allowed me to focus on my cats' health and getting them better instead of having to repeatedly check in on the claims status and try to figure out what is going on. I am so thankful for Healthy Paws! Our sweet rescue pup Maggie has developed some health issues necessitating a number of lab and imaging tests in addition to medication. Healthy Paws has been so easy to work with and very quick with reimbursements. They've enabled us to get our dog great care without having to be anxious about how we will pay for it. I'm so grateful we chose to go with them for our pet insurance.

I can't say enough about the care and compassion that embodies Healthy Paws. When I brought my puppy home, I hesitated at the need for pet insurance. I have used Healthy Paws 2 X for emergency service support (2019 & 2020). Both of these medical conditions happen "Out-of-the-Blue. The first condition, vasculitsis, of his left foreleg. After seeing 2 prior vets, the 3 vet gave it a diagnosis. It was never discovered what had caused it. The second medical disease, Leptospirosis, aka, Lepto, nearly took Mugzy's life. I had never heard of this bacterial disease before. Too much to explain, herein, but I encourage all to read about this. The bacteria live in rodent-type animals' urine. This bacteria is Zoologica; meaning it passes between mammals under certain conditions. Mugzy spent 6 days and 5 nights at the ER hospital in renal failure.... Read More

Years ago, I learned the value of having pet insurance when my first German Shepherd had a reaction to an antibiotic that almost killed him. With my latest dog, we decided to switch to Healthy Paws because of the simplicity of filing claims, and its straightforward reimbursement process.
