Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Filing the claim was easy and done on line. I was notified within one day the claim was being reviewed. A few days later I was notified the claim was completed and a breakdown of what was paid was emailed to me. The reimbursement was received within ten days of submitting the claim.

I did a lot of research before choosing the right pet insurance for my pup and eventually decided on Healthy Paws because of the great reviews. I'm so glad I did! The app makes everything extremely simple, all I have to do is take a picture of the invoice and submit a claim. The turnaround is always extremely quick and I have never had any issues with regards to coverage. I cannot recommend Healthy Paws enough. I have friends who are with different providers and have been having a nightmare getting records verified each time etc. Getting insurance for your pet is a must and Healthy Paws is the best choice.

I cannot say enough good things about Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. They have been a life saver time and time again when it comes to my two pups care. Customer Service is always so kind and helpful and their claims handling and turn around is top notch. I'm so glad I made the right choice the first time in choosing Healthy Paws and other pets owners will be too. Issues arise with all of our pets at some point (just like children) and it's a relief to know that you have help.

I've now had Healthy Paws for about 4 years and I was not a believer in pet insurance but thankfully I changed my mind. One of my dogs has had three knee surgeries in the past three years and I'm so grateful for how easy Healthy Paws makes the claim process. Their app makes it about a minute long process and then it's almost always processed within a week. Not only have they covered the surgeries but also the physical therapy to get her back to 100%. I'm so happy to have them because it takes a lot of the money factor out of making the hard decision on whether or not surgery is right for your pup. I'll be a Healthy Paws customer for life!

We purchased Healthy Paws pet insurance for our two cats when they were kittens. Our male cat has had two bouts of urinary tract blockage issues that have required surgery. In both instances Healthy Paws paid our claims exactly as our policy stated, with our reimbursement paid right away. We are extremely happy with the service we have been provided and have recommended Healthy Paws to all of our friends and family.

I really don’t like Healthy Paws - they put up my premiums without any communication despite no claims - they are impossible to get hold of to discuss the issues and left me on hold for ages - they never email me and dont reply to my emails

We also know you’ve never filed a claim and we hope that you never have to--this means your pet is healthy and accident free. Our management team works hard to keep our premiums as low as possible while still providing comprehensive coverage. New technology, advancements in veterinary treatments, and overall claim costs are taken into consideration when assessing our rates. Your monthly premium is going up because the increase in claim payments has been faster than the premium increases in your state. As a result, we need to increase the premium level for all pets in your state so you and your pet can have continued access to the best veterinary care. Rest assured, we will never penalize you with higher rates for making claims. All pet insurance companies, no matter how they market their benefits, will raise rates to keep up with the rapidly rising cost of veterinary care. We do our best to be transparent regarding annual premium increases by including this information on the "Frequently Asked Questions" page of our website. In regards to communication around your premium increase, insurance regulations require that we send out a notice to our clients whenever there is a policy change. We emailed you regarding the premium increase 60 days prior to your policy anniversary date, using the email address you chose for your account. If you would like a copy of that email for your records, please contact our customer care team and we’d be happy to send it to you. We hope you and your pet stay well!

Healthy paws pet insurance has been a lifesaver. Not just for my bank account, but more importantly, for my dog Joey. He is a rescue that we’ve had the past 1 1/2 years. As soon as we sprung him from the rescue, we purchased healthy paws insurance just in case there were any issues down the road. Well, fast forward 16 months later, and Joey had to spend 4 days and 3 nights in the vet hospital, as we tried to figure out what was going on. The poor boy had a bacterial infection that went into his bloodstream. This was a grave, life-threatening condition. But the veterinarians did a great job of treating and saving him. I have nothing but amazing things to say about Healthy Paws. With 3 dogs, I never considered pet insurance until a friend of mine had an emergency visit that cost thousands of dollars. I wanted to be able to provide my pets with the best possible care, without being restricted by financial limitations. I did my research and Healthy Paws seemed like the best option. Not even 6 months later, one of my dogs tore both of her cruciate ligaments and requires surgery on both legs amounting to over $16,000. I first got Pet insurance back in 2007 with my first dog, Kacey. Back then it wasn't as good as it is now. Kacey past away in 2016 due to Leukemia, and I adopted Marvin shortly after. He was about 5 or 6, a rescue dog. I researched all the new & different pet insurance companies for days, I finally went with Healthy Paws, they had the best coverage for my needs. And boy has it paid off! Marvin recently spent a few hours at the emergency vet, and subsequently a trip to a neurologist for an MRI.
