Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Healthy Paws does not have a wellness plan, but they will treat canine hip dysplasia if it is not a pre-existing condition.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

Healthy Paws is the best decision we ever made for our dog Winnie. I did a lot of research on various pet insurance companies when Winnie first chose me six years ago. I concluded that Healthy Paws was the best, and I have not been disappointed. I have friends who chose to use other insurance companies and they have not been nearly as satisfied as I have been with Healthy Paws. Healthy Paws gives me the peace of mind that no matter what happens, we will be able to do what is best for Winnie without thinking twice about how we will be able to afford it. I highly recommend Healthy Paws to anyone who has the responsibility of loving a four legged creature.

My 5 year old golden retriever, Apple, had a herniated disc in her back requiring delicate neurosurgery and many days of ICU followup. I cannot express how thankful I was that she was protected by a Healthy Paws policy! It allowed me to get Apple the very BEST and updated treatment available including the use of the hyperbaric chamber which was pivotal in her speedy recovery. I was so impressed that Apple's Healthy Paws policy had no maximum, did not exclude anything my doctor ordered and my claims were processed in a couple days!. I have Healthy Paws for my three French bulldogs and cannot say enough good things about them. Recently, my three year old female has been battling high liver enzymes and we could not figure out what was causing it. She started experiencing severe vomiting and pain and we took her to our regular vet for care. After xrays, we were immediately referred to an emergency veterinary practice. She was admitted and received more xrays, exams, and ultrasound. She was operated on and the surgeon found a piece of plastic "something" caught between her stomach and upper intestine opening. It was removed and she was kept in ICU for three days of recovery (total of four days of hospitalization)... Read More

Healthy Paws has been great in covering two of my Pitbull's TPLO Surgery's. He is only 2.5 years old. Both Surgery's we're in excess of $4,000. Claims are processed very quickly, and all information provided when you enroll is correct. I would encourage anyone looking for Pet Insurance to choose Healthy Paws, and I would encourage anyone who owns Pets to purchase insurance.....immediately!! Pet injuries are very un-timely, and very costly; Without the support of Healthy Paws, I would never have been able to keep my pets healthy. Thank you Healthy Paws!!!!

My 5 y.o. Silken Windhound, a breed described as “remarkably healthy” has recently been diagnosed with copper storage disease, deemed genetic in a few breeds, unknown, up until now, in Silken Windhounds. Fortunately, I have had Healthy Paws since Sierra was 8 weeks old. Her diagnosis has required a couple years of labs, noninvasive procedures, finally, a laparoscopic liver biopsy, which is the only way to diagnose this illness. Healthy Paws has been wonderful - super easy claims with an app on my phone. I receive an immediate email that my claim has been received and not to worry about my policy, to take care of Sierra. Healthly Paws Insurance has been wonderful to work with! I purchased the insurance soon after getting our new English Lab Puppy, Kota in 2016! Unfortunately, our little guy has had some health issues and Healthy Paws has been there with us every step of the way! The app works great and they are quick to review the claim and issue a check. Our young dog suddenly developed some stomach issues and ultimately needed the care of an internal medicine specialist. I am so thankful that we had our coverage for him through Healthy Paws. It really made a difference to only have to worry about him getting the best care, and not how we were going to pay for it! Our claims were handled quickly with no problems. Thank you, Healthy Paws! Healthypaws has been fantastic since we signed up. They are honest and forthright. The website is so easy to use and reimbursement is quick. They check in periodically as well to see how the fur babies are doing.
