Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We love Healthy Paws pet insurance because you can set your own rate by choosing your deductible and your copay! We have a Saint Bernard who seems to have a lot of issues, so we choose the 90% coverage, which is great for us because it covers his expensive tests and procedures. But on our other dog, who doesn't need as much medical care, we choose the 70% option to save on the premium. Works out great for us. The claims process is easy and they pay quickly.

I have had awful experiences with three other pet insurance companies and had almost given up on the entire industry; but when we adopted my pup two years ago, I decided to give Healthy Paws a try. Two years later, Wally started limping, and now three months later, he's had major knee surgery followed by eight weeks of twice weekly hydrotherapy. I submitted the receipts expecting to get the run around. Instead...two weeks later a check showed up in my mailbox! Healthy Paws' easy process and expedience made a stressful experience so much easier, and cheaper too.

Our puppy has had a hard first year of life (he is only 10 months). Having pet insurance through this company was the best thing we ever did. We were so lucky to have one less thing to worry about given his never ending medical issues. I am so glad that finances are the last thing on my mind every time I have to take our dog Blue to the vet. Submitting a claim is so easy and the company really cares about your pet's well being. I couldn't recommend it more.

Healthy paws is a must! First time getting insurance for my kitties and they have already saved a life. Cali came down with a serious infection near her brain and they covered everything - even tried to pay the hospital directly. Having healthy paws I was able to focus on just getting her better. I got a new puppy so I decided to get pet insurance for him. I have been a dog owner for 40 years but never had insurance before. I did lots of research and chose Healthy Paws. I am so so glad I did. He had an ER visit for repeated vomiting and then surgery for a possible bowel obstruction. Through all the stress of being worried for my boy, one less worry was how to pay for all of it. Healthy Paws paid their portion of the bill without hassle, even when he had to be put under again to repair the incision. I and my pup thank you, Healthy Paws!!!!!

Weird things you'd never expect from an insurance company... they answer their phone, they respond to emails... crazy! Using healthypaws was so simple, from getting them my files to getting my claims processed. Our pup had a couple of emergency vet bills over the course of a few days and starting a claim was super quick, which is great when you're super stressed and have a sick dog. They even followed up to ask how he was doing (my own health insurance has certainly never done that)! A great experience and gives you piece of mind when you're okay'ing giant vet bills. I recommend to all my fellow pet parents.

A few years ago I decided to buy Healthy Paws insurance for both of my dogs. At times it seemed that a premium was a total waste since dogs were healthy. But a couple of months ago my German shepherd started to have a huge problem with her knee (similar to human ACL) and required an expansive surgery. Insurance people were on top of it and paid 80% of all the charges (over $5200). I'm very thankful for their prompt payment and for the ease of communication. Great Job!

I have had Healthy Paws for 4 years now and always thought is was great. Submitting a claim is super easy, reimbursement checks are sent out quickly. They cover what the say they will and I have never had any difficulty or denial of a claim. Then just last month Healthy Paws saved my dog's life! She was diagnosed with Leptospirosis that attacked her kidneys and the only way to pull her through was dialysis and an extended hospital stay with an estimated cost of $15K-30K. I contacted Healthy Paws right away and not only did the answer all of my questions and provide me the necessary information to process such a large claim and NOT have to layout the money and wait on a reimbursement... Healthy Paws did right by me and my baby Jasmine. She had a bad tummy ache and was throwing up blood. Had to take her in for emergency services and healthy paws paid 80% no questions asked. Highly recommend

It was confusing to figure out which Pet Insurance company to use. I picked Healthy PAWS because they are rated the highest. It was the best choice to make. When I bought insurance, my dog was a 4-month-old puppy. I never thought I would need to use it before she became a senior. Well, at just 2 she was mauled by 2 dogs mistaking her for a groundhog. She was in terrible shape. Healthy PAWS guided me the whole step of the way to ensure great care and hassle-free vet payments. They have even called to check up on her. I want to encourage vet practices to partner with Healthy PAWS. Honestly-they make sure that it is a no-wait win-win for everybody.
