Optimum Home Shield requires customers to sign up for 12 months of coverage, however you can choose to pay for the service monthly. We requested a quote for a combination systems and appliances plan for single family home in a midwestern city. The cost was $77.92 a month. In our experience, that's a little on the high side. But Optimum Home Shield has an extensive discount program. Currently, the company is running a promotion under which new customers can save $150 off a yearly plan. Seniors, educators, veterans, first responders, and other customers may all be eligible for lower pricing, too. We encountered a problem when trying to evaluate whether Optimum Home Shield's plans are a good value. The company does not provide a link to a sample contract. It doesn't provide a list of exclusions — for example, do its plans cover premium brand appliances? Nor does it indicate anywhere on its website what the maximum benefits per covered item or per year are when you sign up for a home warranty. Homeowners need to know these details before deciding whether a home warranty makes sense for them. One thing the company does mention is the pre-existing condition clause in its plans. The company will not pay claims if a customer knew about a problem with a system or appliance prior to signing a contract. The clause goes further to say that even if a customer didn't know about a problem, if a service contractor determines that a problem has been present for some time, the company can also deny your claim. We suspect that these restrictions spell trouble and surprises for customers filing claims down the road.

I have a claim and I cannot get in touch with Optimum Home Shield. They are not answering their phone. I have tried to email them and nothing. I sent them a request through their Facebook page and nothing. They are not responding to me at all.
