Home Warranty of America offers comprehensive home warranty plans that cover more than most other basic plans. Although their annual premiums and call service fees are on the higher end, when compared to similar offers, the company does provide excellent additional coverage such as the GreenPlus option, which replaces old systems and appliances with high-efficiency models. With extensive coverages, fitting prices, a flexible cancellation policy, and 24/7 claims processing, Home Warranty of America provides everything a discerning customer could wish for.

Home Warranty of America offers two plans, the Premier and Premier Plus, which include coverage for over 30 items traditionally not covered under basic home warranty plans. The company also provides optional coverage for secondary appliances, saltwater equipment, and even primary and secondary pools or spas. Besides offering a remarkably extensive coverage, HWA also has a GreenPlus plan that allows customers to replace their covered systems or appliances with Energy Star-qualified products. This last option is available for $5.77 a month or $75 a year, which delivers excellent value, considering the amount of water and electricity customers can save using high-efficiency models.

Premiums with Home Warranty of America vary by state, but are generally around $580 a year for their Premier plan, and $695 a year for Premier Plus. Although their annual premiums are on the higher end in comparison with their competitors, they are still within a reasonable range. HWA's plans provide coverage for 13 months, and can be cancelled at any time within the first 30 days of coverage, yet a cancellation fee of 10%, no less than $30, will be deducted from the payment, plus any service fees. Those who wish to cancel after the first 30 days are able to do so but will receive a pro-rata refund of the amount paid for the unexpired term, minus service fees and the 10% cancellation fee.

Home Warranty of America charges different service fees for each plan, between $60-$100. Though they have a standard 30-day waiting period before the coverage can begin, maintenance records aren't necessary to receive service. HWA states they are not responsible for routine maintenance of systems, appliances, or components. Clients who want those items to remain in working order will have to service themselves. Two excellent things about this company is that they offer 24/7 claims processing and though they require authorization for contractors before providing services, these don't necessarily have to be from their network.

DO NOT purchase their "Real Estate Plan" as they will ask to see your home inspection report with EVERY claim. If the report mentions ANYTHING about the issue you are having they will DENY your claim as a pre-existing condition even if the failure came after close of escrow. Save your money and frustration. Also, HWA has MANY other warranty companies under their umbrella so you may have the same issues. BE CAREFUL as they are in the biz to NOT PAY YOUR CLAIMS (two denied so far). Also, their contractors, which you must use and have no choice of, are paid contracted rates by HWA. Keep in mind the chance of a replacement is pretty much nill no matter the age or severity of issue. Look... Read More

I was told that HWA is bought by Choice Home warranty, is this true, I am in North Texas location and one of the tech told me that HWA clients are with Choice home warranty, Can someone clarify,

The seller of my house included a warranty with this company when I bought it. The warranty is about to expire. HWA keeps calling and emailing me, despite me communicating that I was not interested in renewing. The calls/emails are continuing, which at this point feels like harassment.

Do not use this company. Customer service is non-existent. Communication is non-existent. They do anything and everything to not pay a claim, even when the contract holder has followed all requirements to the letter. Again, DO NOT USE HOME WARRANTY OF AMERICA.

Do not use this company. Their contract should be one paragraph saying they will find a way to not cover anything. Put $50 in an account every month instead of paying them and then still having to pay for your repair. 3 claims were all total BS. Save tour 💵

When I got my house, I knew I wanted to protect it so I did look into this company but I decided to go with a more local company for more local service. I got my home warranty plan with Mesa Home Warranty. They have been great. My AC broke down in last July when it was 110 degrees. They got it fixed so fast! I love it!

HWA is a scam. I submitted a claim for my air conditioning late June, and did not hear from them for over a week when the temperature was over 90 degrees. I was then told it would be approximately 3 more weeks for them to send a technician out. They would not allow me to use any other local technicians that were available that same day or the next. They would not cover anything unless they sent out the technician. With the temperature this hot and a non-working air conditioning, since they will not work with me on this they are essentially not providing any coverage.

Good afternoon everyone. Hope all are doing well. Just wanted to share my experience with HWA/Choice Warranty. They are utterly worthless. Must be nice, for them, to have a Warranty Contract with a neat little clause (that they do not tell you about) that lets THEM offer you very little money as a Buy Out rather than actually Repairing or Replacing anything. Their Warranty is not worth the Paper it is Printed On. I highly recommend staying away from HWA/Choice. I actually thought with a "Warranty" if something went wrong they would either Repair or Replace the defective Appliance. Apparently I (as well as NUMEROUS others) were mistaken. Instead they offer you a "Buy Out"... Read More

I just had the worst customer service experience of my life with Home Warranty of America I was misled about how the service worked and encouraged to take an action that - by design (?) - put me in breach of contract. I called customer service to set things straight and was passed around to 2-3 reps each time I called. I was promised call backs from "Supervisors" on 4 different occasions. And it wasn't until my 9th call on my 4th day of follow up that I spoke to someone with the authority to offer me 1/6th of the coverage I was approved for originally. Do Not work with them. And Do Not let realtors contract with them on your behalf. If I could give them 0-stars, I would

heed this warning, this company is a ripoff> when a issue arose with our jacuzzi we were told to wait so they could locate a contractor. in week they called and stated they didnt have contractors in my area, Andover Mn. Since then we have been attempting to cancel the contract and we are not having much luck with trying to get a refund. Mn dept of commerce and Mn attorney general will be my next call.

Absolutely ridiculous. I called to report a plumbing issue, they told me someone would call to come see it - they never did & I even tried calling the company numerous times. I then called HWA back and they scheduled a second company... they never called or answered my calls. I called HWA back yesterday and they said they were trying to find someone and would call me back. They never called back and I got an email this morning saying my claim was cancelled. I called to inquire and was told that it was cancelled because they don't cover "noises with plumbing." Why they didn't say this a month ago, I'm not sure. How they know what's causing the noise that they don't cover, I don't... Read More

Our experience with Home Warranty of America has been poor. Our oven broke, and it took two months for them to decide to replace it. Over Thanksgiving and Xmas, we had to use our Grill and our smoker as ovens. Next, our refrigerator broke. After 3 1/2 months, they still don’t know what is wrong, and it still isn’t working. We have called them at least once every two weeks, if not more often, only to have repairmen not show up. Repairmen who have come out here, have been incompetent. We are canceling our service midterm, as we finally gave up and bought a new refrigerator ourselves. What is the point of getting a warranty, if they take over two months to repair, or replace your... Read More

I can not recommend Home Warranty of America at this time. We called for an issue with our air conditioner not working. Temperatures are in the mid to high 90s with high humidity. Heat index has been above 100 the entire time. It took two days to get a technician to our home. The technician said he had to check with the contractor that sent him to see if the work was covered. Two days later we had not heard the status yet. We had to call the contractor to check on our status. The contractor said they were sending the report with pictures to Home Warranty of America for approval. Why did it take two days to send the report? It has been five days with out air conditioning and no... Read More

DO NOT PURCHASE A POLICY WITH Home Warranty Of America. They will take your money and provide nothing but headaches. I filed a claims related to plumbing. They sent a contractor that did nothing, just collected the $100 service call fee. I had to call again and they sent me a different contractor company that did exactly the same nothing and I had to pay another $100 service call fee. When I called the Home Warranty of America to express my frustration, I got a customer service representative person that couldn't even speak English. I think their customer service department is overseas. I asked to speak with the Manager and they never returned my call. They called me a month before... Read More

We have previously purchased other home warranties in Virginia before moving to a Massachusetts. This company couldn’t find us a pool repair service call not once but twice in two consecutive years. They take your money but can’t provide the service. Last year I told us to go find our own repairmen because companies in Massachusetts / Rhode Island don’t want to work with them. We went ahead finding our own Contractor whom made minor repairs to the HE filter and pool pump connectors. We wrote up the claim and provided all documents. They denied the claim. It took numerous month, many hours on the phone with various levels within HWA, and complaints to the Massachusetts Consumer Division... Read More

DO NOT ATTEMT ANYTHING WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!! They take your money and provide NOTHING in return. Filed a claim on our range when we purchased the home, fixed it myself (they are still wandering around the office counting flowers on the wallpaper). Denied an HVAC claim as they don't repair the condensation drains putting water under my home (again fixed it myself ...is there a pattern here ... what did I pay for?). Electrician did come out but, took the deductible and haven't seen them since and that was 3 months ago. Do they only have one electrician for our state? This warranty is laughable and sincerely shady. Choose something else because the only thing you get for your money is... Read More

This company is really terrible to their paying customers. I would say kind of a BS company.... works with terrible service vendors. They appear to be super accommodating on the initial buy-in, but I just had a service request for my toilet. Agent instead of redirecting me to the site -- blocks my email and the plumbing service they used was rude and condescending and took my $75 copay. Great! toilet wasn't really fixed and now I'm out $75 --- talk about scammers, both the company and their partners. Please reassess before buying them.

Called in for our tenant's fridge on November 19th, and their tech advised to replace: french door 29 cubic ft fridge not fixable. No action or help from HWA until 15 days later and constant phone calls. Calls going to Guatemala with roosters crowing in the background and promises to take action but zero follow-through. This poor woman had all her food go bad and had to go without refrigerated food at home in a Covid-19 situation all this time, and they have the nerve to offer an inferior brand replacement, with an additional two weeks more to receive delivery. We would have to haul away the bad one ourselves too! Forced to opt for check settlement ...$1495 but replacement is $3000.... Read More

We plan to cancel our plan. The three in-network plumbing contractors sent out for a small plumbing problem have been incompetent/inexperienced and also inept and clueless with homeowners. The claims representatives are polite but also clueless and communication is very difficult because of static and other problems on the phone lines from India. The whole experience seems designed to provide as little service for as long as possible while still extracting more money from us (in addition to the $600 we have already paid) and not solving any of the problem.

VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REMEDIATION PROCESS 8/3: - Contacted HWA with diagnosis - HWA informed me I had to use their technician “Assured Appliances” 8/5: - After 3 hours of waiting I called Assured Appliances who stated they WOULD NOT service my dryer due to previous trouble shooting - Contacted HWA who allowed me to use my own contractor 8/7: - Contractor price to repair was $965 - Parts no longer available as dryer is discontinued - Called HWA who said purchasing would review and contact me WITHIN 48 HOURS 8/11: - I contacted HWA spoke first with Katy - Was informed the dryer cannot be replaced due to COVID restriction - Was told I would only receive $654 for... This companies customer service department is a joke. I've called in multiples times requesting an update on my claim each time I call its a different excuse on why the washer machine hasn't been ordered. My last straw was when the rep explained today 8/10/20 the washer machine was discontinued and on backorder. But this wasn't the same update I received on Thursday 8/6/20. I was advised the washer had been ordered and I would receive a follow-up email with the delivery date in 48 hours. I did not receive an update via email as promised. If the washer was on backorder the company should have reached out to me explaining this. Filed claim June 10. First AC provider they assigned to me called and said he could not get to me and to find someone else. After a few days the company provided another name. That person came and said unit was dead and could not be repaired. He filed report on June 23. Have contacted company two or three times -- appears claim kept "falling through the cracks." Finally on July 8 I got a decision from them and requested a buyout payment. Today is the 20th. No check. I cannot move without AC and the delay is adding expenses to my move. What can I do to move things forward?
