Overall Rating: 3.8 / 5 (Very good)

Dairyland is a very good option for car insurance, especially for those who have been denied by other companies due to driving and legal issues.

The company has been owned since 1966 by Sentry Insurance, which has sound financials.

Dairyland gives consumers the option of buying a policy directly from the company, over the internet, or from one of its agents.

Though its policies are not always the least expensive, it does offer various premium discounts.

*The NAIC Car Insurance complaint ratio (in this case 2.68) compares a company’s performance to other companies in the market. The median complaint ratio across all car insurance companies is 1. A score below 1 means the company received fewer than the expected number of complaints. A score above 1 means the company received a more than the expected number of complaints.

Claims Satisfaction & Customer Experience - 4.5 / 5

Information on Dairyland's customer experience is equivocal. Neither Sentry nor Dairyland are rated by the top third party insurance surveys.

Sentry has an A+ rating by the BBB but a very small number of reviews. It has a strong rating by Trust Pilot, but a significantly worse than average complaint ratio with NAIC.

The small sample size means that a few happy or unhappy consumers can skew satisfaction metrics, so consumers are well advised to speak with other Dairyland policyholders in their area and to review published complaints with a critical eye.

Financial Strength - 4 / 5

Pricing & Discounts - 3.5 / 5

Anecdotal evidence suggests that Dairyland's policies may be somewhat more expensive than average, but this is not surprising given that one of the company's specialties is insuring high-risk drivers.

The company does offer some of the standard discounts, which in some cases may lower premiums, as well as a discount to homeowners, regardless of who insures the property.

People who have completed a defensive driving course may also see a premium reduction.

Truly the worst experience I have ever had with an insurance company. Robert Giaret is a horrible representation for the company and spoke down to my spouse on the phone as if everything was her fault. She was slammed into when yielding at a red light. The person who hit her had no bumper, no license, and she was truly traumatized by the experience. She put in a call to the company because the rental was explained to her one way by phone and another way via email. The manager she spoke with, Robert Giaret, continued to berate her through the entire call while she was in tears, stating that she should be upset with herself and no one else for having to pay for supplemental insurance. Unfortunately Elephant Auto subsidized their SR-22 policies through this "company" so if you need an SR-22 and have Elephant, avoid getting an SR-22 policy through them. This has without a doubt been the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. I dont even know where to start, is it the 500 dollar SR-22 fee that Dairyland caused me to be fined, or if it was the actual experience of dealing with these swindlers. Eddie is a garbage customer service manager and should be fired immediately. He repeatedly repeated himself by saying "If you have not received the letter we mailed I would recommend you contact the USPS". They cancelled my policy TWO DAYS AFTER PAYING!!! Seriously?...
