VRBO is a travel search engine which is a registered trademark of HomeAway.com. It offers information on over 2 million house rentals worldwide with more than 25,000 pet-friendly properties to choose from. It also provides detailed listings on properties such as those with free baby and kid amenities.

Services and Features

VRBO makes searching for a vacation rental simple by letting you enter a destination and travel dates. It also has search filters which lets travellers narrow down results. Travellers can inquire on 3 or more properties which increases their chance of booking. It also has a “Book it Now” option to select a listing.

The company ensures that the money spent vacation is covered with its Cancellation and Damage Protection. This covers non-refundable refundable trip costs in case customers need to cancel their trip due to selected reasons. Typically, vacation rental payments become non-refundable 30 to 90 days in advance of the arrival date. With Cancellation Protection, consumers can insure their trip cost of up to $50,000 if they need to cancel and reimburse due to covered events such as flight cancellations, mandatory evacuation, job loss, injury, sickness, and more.

Damage Protection helps travellers be protected against expenses incurred due to accidentally damage a vacation rental property. This can reimburse travellers if their refundable damage deposit is withheld due to a covered loss. Coverage is offered starting from $59 up to $1,500 with no deductible.

As per Government orders & Global pandemic dictates, we cannot travel. VRBO & Owner refuses to change our travel dates or refund or help out at all. After connecting with THOUSAND upon THOUSANDS of other travelers online in the same situation, it is clear that VRBO does NOT care about public safety and is more concerned about short term money gains versus long term reputation. This will be the end of them. AIRBNB did the right thing and changed their policy to serve their customer base in this emergency. Does VRBO think they are immune to social media? The airlines refunded us, the tours we booked were no problem, the ski resorts, the lifts, the rentals, the car rental company, etc. VRBO... Read More

Lesa and Mark Gilbert, property in Washington DC, will not allow me to change weekends from this coming weekend. What a travesty, such poor service, even worse, complete disregard for Public Health. VRBO does not back customers

BEWARE.. VRBO plays the sympathetic bystander and says they can do nothing to help you from the big bad property owner that doesn’t give you what you pay for with your hard earned money. They felt SOOOO bad for my sick child but were unable to anything for me. Beyond take money of course. VRBO being a subsidiary of Expedia and hardly cash poor. I’ll never risk my family’s precious time together with these organizations again.

I paid for heated pool which we didn't get. They did send a technician out to look at it he reported it was ok. My husband and anyone else that has sense enough to know the heat pump isn't running. Called again still no heat pump working. As far even having washcloths which she now says they don't provide. They should tell you before you rent however; we have 8 people and we had 4 washcloths, but they provide towels. The paper they leave says if you leave more than 2 loads of laundry they charge$ 25.00. If they don't' provide there should be no laundry left. The place itself is old and ok but dated.

CHECK BEFORE YOU RENT In Houston the tax on rentals 30 days or less is 19%, over 30 days the property is considered a home and the tax is not applicable. This is true for all short term rentals (31 days or more) including hotels (tax varies according to location). During the past two weeks I have repeatedly applied to rent accommodations for over 30 days. In each effort the 19% tax was added to the total cost. I requested that the 19 % charge be deleted and a new cost be forwarded. In each case I was told the residence was unavailable or my request had been referred to the applicable department which later informed me the residence was not available. I was seeking a 60 day... > We Had a wonderful stay at El Sol at Casa Ventana al Cielo in Sayulita Mexico from December 23rd until January 3rd 2020. The house accommodated six of us comfortably and the deck, yard, pool and view were fantastic. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking needs and dishes with basic spices available. We cooked a number of meals including fresh fish we caught on a one day ocean fishing excursion. The ocean with a great beach and large waves was a seven minute walk from the house. Boogie boards, chairs and an umbrella were available at the house to take to the beach. We really enjoyed the walking and exercise we got while vacationing. Antonieta, the property manager was very... Read More

Book a condo in South Padre Island back in May 2019. While on route from Canada we received a text from the property manager canceling our 4 week rental. We are totally shocked that VRBO would allow such a short notice cancellation. We could only find a few replacement properties at triple the $ of canceled unit. So much for the relaxing vacation, we are now heading home. Read the fine print; as a consumer you have no protection from VRBO.

I booked a rental property through VRBO and cancelled two days later. Obtaining the refund of the $499 service fee was a nightmare. I called the property owners and they happily cancelled on their end. I contacted VRBO and they told me the property manager uses their own system managing reservations and I would have to contact them. I spoke to the property manager several times and they ensured it it was cancelled on their end. I went back and fourth with VRBO for almost 2 weeks. I had numerous special cases opened and was told SEVERAL different things, not one representative said the same thing . I was told I would be contacted a few different times after they had time to review my case... Read More

I have been a customer of VRBO since 2009. It WAS a great company. I said WAS. Since Homeaway took them over, then Yapstone INC took over collecting rental income funds, then Expedia took them all over and decided to take over collections everything is just one big circle jerk for owners and guest. My own experience (just today_) were I spend 4-5 hours trying to fix an issue created by Homeaway/Yapstone 4 years ago has reappeared and is worse. Funds are not be collected. Emails are not being sent. Payments are not getting paid But Worse WORSE is that HomeAway had made it nearly impossible to get any real help. Customer service is the only number you can call. They are all so fustrated... Read More

I never received check-in instructions for the condo I reserved through VRBO in Cabo and thus I was forced to cancel a long-planned extended family Holiday celebration at virtually the last minute. I have used VRBO for 14 properties since 2014, so I know the owner is supposed to provide information a week prior to check-in. After not receiving that info, I emailed the owner repeatedly with no success and when I called "his number" I got a message that no voicemail box had been set up. I called the resort and was told there was NO reservation for me. I started contacting VRBO several days before I was supposed to leave. They too could not contact the "owner." So I cancelled my trip,... Read More
