Don’t buy travel insurance from this company--you are wasting your money. We spent over $900 on travel insurance for two people but weren’t covered for anything when our travel agency went bankrupt half way through our trip. If you read the fine print (which I will explain more of below), Allianz travel insurance ends up being useless and essentially a scam. After you “choose” a plan and spend time providing detailed information about yourself and trip, you receive an intentionally misleading email and policy card. We cancelled a trip after purchasing this insurance. Completing 17 pages including 5 by our physician. Our claim was denied. It seems there are so many exclusions to this policy you would need to be dead to make a claim. Do not purchase this insurance until you read the detailed exclusions. We unfortunately did not. We have always purchased insurance with other carriers and never used it. I know the last policy from a different carrier had no exclusions. Shame on you Allianz Travel.

I had and still having a horrible experience with Allianz Global Insurance. I have been traveling to South America for the last 25 years twice a year. Every time I travel I purchase the insurance with Allianz because my medical insurance does not cover out of network. Last year I got very sick and was hospitalized for 5 days, the expenses were a little bit over $5,000 and I called Allianz on the 3rd day I was hospitalized. I was told to pay the bill on my own and that once I got to NY/USA to submit the claim and I would be refund for the expenses. It is going to be a year so far and they still reviewing my case. Allianz was terrible to work with. I had to cancel due to a required surgery. It took them 6 months, many phone calls, numerous forms, and they paid less than half of what was insured. It was rare that hold time to talk to someone in Asia was less than 20 minutes.

Do not buy Allianz Travel Insurance. I cancelled for non medical reason with documentation and no reimbursement! Buy from someone else. They are a waste of time and money!

Allianz travel coverage is a joke, DO NOT BUY!!! My parents booked a flight to come to see me. My Mom works for a small town as the Treasurer. As the trip time got closer, the town decided that the vacation they had approved had to be reversed because of budget problems and deadlines for the town fiscal year end. We got a letter from the board stating the facts, and got all the information together to submit a claim. (this in itself was a huge pain) They wouldn't pay the lose of the tickets because it didn't fit their criteria. I guess choosing to keep job and not get fired is not a good reason to cancel a trip. I purchased flight insurance from Allianz. My sister is hospitalized with Leukemia and complications often arise which make it uncertain when I can visit her. She contracted pneumonia so I canceled my flight, wanting to reschedule as soon as she gained strength. I asked the insurance comany to cover the penalty fee incurred from the airline, $250.00 When I called Allianz, I was told my sister's cancer was a PREEXISTING condition and they would not pay the penalty cancellation fee on a preexisting condition. I would NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. They did not explain properly what you needed in regards to proof of claim. It took about 5 phone calls to figure it out. Then, I was denied because they don't cover my medical condition. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I USE THEM. AND IT TOOK 5 WEEKS FOR THEM TO TELL ME.

We bought travel insurance prior to a 6 week trip to Indonesia. We are Sr citizens (age 71 and 68). During our time in Bali my husband had to go to the hospital. We filed our claim upon return 5/24. We received our reimbusement within 2 weeks for our medical expenses. I am so grateful we decided to buy travel insurance and I definitely would recommend Alliance.

BUYERS BEWARE!! When we ordered the Premier Plan, we read that it covered medical treatment and trip cancellation which is what we had concerns with moderate/severe allergies and asthma. Due to my horrible experience I cannot recommend Allianz Global Insurance. My travel was interrupted due to a major natural disaster. I immediately called customer service and was told not to worry and was explained all the benefits I would receive. I spent the next 12 months speaking to dozens of representatives and submitting reams of requested paperwork. Every time I spoke with someone I received a different answer. DO NOT BUY THIS INSURANCE!!!! We bought this travel insurance to cover a trip to Barcelona cruising the Mediterranean. Had never bought trip insurance before, but decided our financial risk on this trip warranted being insured against the unexpected. Waste of money. Bought tickets to the Dominican Republic and months after purchasing 11 Americans have died at various resorts and just wanted my money back for flights & was denied stating the travel advisory hasn't been issued yet. If they are waiting for a travel advisory I can just cancel through the airline for free without having to pay for Allianz. Policy is extremely limited and obviously have no concern for safety of their customers. It is too early to know if they will compensate appropriately as per our travel agent's comments and our insurance documents, but I do know this: The customer service is terrible. After my husband had two surgeries in 2 weeks, we found that we would not find it safe to travel in two months on a Viking cruise. Two surgeons agreed with that. Allianz was just another lost expense for me from a cancelled trip from the US to Portugal and Spain. I purchased the policy well before Covid-19, in November 2019. Allianz now says they will not pay claims due to cancellations based on Covid and I do not qualify for a refund. Travel insurance was purchased to cover me in this exact type of situation and they totally failed. My advice is don't waste your money on Allianz, the cost will be noting more than another lost expense if your trip has problems.

We purchased insurance for a cruise that was booked a year in advance. After we had arrived in Florida, we were notified that our cruise (that was supposed to leave the next day) was cancelled. Allianz would not even refund the cost of the insurance, let alone help with any of the hotel/rental car/reschedule of flight costs. We paid for travel insurance for a trip that was cancelled on us and received nothing - they are useless. Bare minimum Allianz should have refunded the cost of the un-usable travel insurance. I will not purchase from them again, and would not recommend them to anyone.

We supplied doctor's statements and demonstrated that our booking was appropriately paid for; there being no malfeasance or attempt at fraud. Nevertheless, after a two month ordeal of supplying additional supporting documentation, Allianz refused to approve our claim. Warning....Do not do business with Allianz. This company is as close to a scam as it could be. I'm sure they occasionally pay a claim, just to get a good review now and then, but in my opinion they are operating a well oiled scam. Months have gone by without a word from them. I only get the status of my claim if I ask, and it's always the same response...."they need the documentation." I've sent everything they asked for 4 times now. I think they just discard it. OVER-RATED! We bought (before COVID-19 was a "thing" in the US) a policy to cover travel to the NYC area for a cruise. The cruise was cancelled, so I called to inquire about a possible airfare refund. The rep suggested we submit the question online, which we did. Our question--which had now officially become a "claim"--was denied. (We did get an e-credit from the airline.) Get the insurance directly from the car rental company next time. The process with allianz will take forever and they may try to nickle and dime you so you don't get full coverage. Don't bother reading the policy, it won't help to understand what is covered.
