Identity and Background Verification

Users are advised to maintain and update any information so it remains true, accurate and complete at all times. Rover.com offers optional background checks through a partnership with First Advantage that verifies that a sitter has not committed a felony or violent crime, such that there would be reason to believe that animals would be in danger while in their care. Rover.com does not investigate any user’s reputation, conduct, morality, criminal background or verify information submitted though the services.

Cancellations

If you book a reservation with a sitter, then you have to cancel your reservation, which does happen, Rover.com will return the funds to the pet owner in accordance with the sitter's cancellation policy. Policies may vary from sitter-to-sitter. Rover.com, however, isn't obligated to intervene in any dispute between users regarding any cancellations and/or refunds outside of Rover.com cancellation policy (if any), regardless of whether Rover.com collected any money on behalf of a pet care service provider or third party service provider. It's really about you knowing how the sitter you choose operates, then being respectful with your sitter in the event that an unforeseen emergency comes up or your travel plans change last minute.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I booked a sitter named Rhonda (don't use her!!). She was supposed to be there in the morning, never showed, then cancelled my entire booking because she got angry when i asked her when she would be arriving. Terrible terrible experience. The Company Rover tried to find me another sitter but NO WAY would I use them again. If you are going to hire someone who does this to you??? Out of town and nobody to watch my furry babies because Rhonda got 'but-hurt'???? There was a recording of the text messages, absolutely nothing out of line by me - I can never use them again and sleep good at night.

my dog got sick while spending a weekend with one of their sitters; however, after 3 weeks of stress/blood diarrhea/vomit and $3k in vet bills, Rover claims there's no proof it was their/the sitter's fault b/c they want me to prove a negative. Luckily for me, the sitter confirmed via text he may have eaten something and the vomiting started on the last day of his stay + my dog had just been to a healthy annual physical 2 days prior to going to the sitter. I'm now taking them to small claims court on the grounds of 'bad faith insurance', a pain in the butt all the way around but confident I will win. Encourage anyone dealing with this to do so too. In other good, news, my dog is now back... Read More

I have been watching pets on Rover for a couple of years now. Just recently, I watched someone's cat. At the same time, the owners went on vacation - I even tried to save them some money by allowing them to book me as an "overnight stay" rather than the rate for drop-ins because I am passionate about helping people save money and find good help. I am always incredibly responsible, over-communicative, and I have always gone above and beyond (including climbing underneath beds, couches, chairs, etc. to take pictures and ensure someone's pet is safe even if they are shy or don't want to be bothered. With this last booking, I watched this person's cat for a couple of days. Their cat was... Read More

Last Minute Cancellations & Horrible Customer Service This is the first and last time I'll use rover. I booked a sitter for my dog and cat 3 weeks prior to leave on my vacation. The sitter canceled 3 days before. I reached out to customer service to help me find someone. The first representative was somewhat helpful. She reached out to some more sitters for me, but none of them responded. I called customer service again, because I was freaking out. I was leaving in 2 days. The second representative was extremely rude and aggressive. She basically told me "sucks for you. Can't help". I would never recommend this app / service to any pet owner.

Stay away from this company! I have a one year old Golden Retrevior named Bear, and we signed up for the dog walking service in May 2021. Our dog walker was named Danielle and she provided great service all the way up to this week, when for out of the blue I get this email from Rover. Com saying my services have been cancelled due to non payment for the days of August 16,18,20,23 and 25, 2021. Below is the message I received.... "We’re writing to let you know that your Rover account has been closed due to a violation of our Terms of Service related to unpaid services. Specifically, the service with Danielle for August 16, 18, & 20 (3 days), and 23 & 25 (2 days). Your recurring booking... Read More

Completely unreliable in my opinion. The cat sitter I had booked in Fairfax, Virginia, "Amanda" canceled at the time when I was depending on her. Rover has no backup plan for sitters like "Amanda" who, in my opinion, are rather sketchy individuals. Insufficient background checks by Rover, in my opinion, is what caused this problem.

My dog was bitten by another dog who was at our dog sitter's house after booking through Rover.com. After $19,000/- medical bills, we had to put our dog down. Now we are trying to get the contact information of the dog's owner and cannot get it. Class action law suit should be filed agains Rover.com and make them accountable for their greed and negligence.

Rover sent me notices that I need ed to sign up to continue my services and then billed me for the 1st visits that I had selected as well as the 2nd time I signed up, Increasing the rate from $12 for half an hour visit to 30. because I was asked to by rover To resign up even though I was already signed up. So I didn't need to resign up they just said that so that they could bill me twice. I canceled and they refused to cancel the visits that I signed up for and then 4 weeks later they set the sitter a rover card saying that I requested services. I found out that not only is there no customer support but they also upload all of your text messages to their app. This company should be shut... Read More
