Users are advised to maintain and update any information so it remains true, accurate and complete at all times. Rover.com offers optional background checks through a partnership with First Advantage that verifies that a sitter has not committed a felony or violent crime, such that there would be reason to believe that animals would be in danger while in their care. Rover.com does not investigate any user’s reputation, conduct, morality, criminal background or verify information submitted though the services.

Cancellations

If you book a reservation with a sitter, then you have to cancel your reservation, which does happen, Rover.com will return the funds to the pet owner in accordance with the sitter's cancellation policy. Policies may vary from sitter-to-sitter. Rover.com, however, isn't obligated to intervene in any dispute between users regarding any cancellations and/or refunds outside of Rover.com cancellation policy (if any), regardless of whether Rover.com collected any money on behalf of a pet care service provider or third party service provider. It's really about you knowing how the sitter you choose operates, then being respectful with your sitter in the event that an unforeseen emergency comes up or your travel plans change last minute.

Marlen V didn't watch my puppy and he was injured. She refused to take him to the vet with the free coupon. Rover still has her at 5 stars, so I don't trust their reviews at all.

I had a bad experience last week with Rover. I booked a dog sitter on Rover for 4 nights. There was a mistake and the wrong person was paid $160 while another sitter already had my dog. I called Rover. They fixed the error. They credited my account for $160 and paid the correct sitter. However, they took an additional $220 from my account. They said they would credit me another $160. I don't know why they aren't crediting me for $220. However, it is now 5 days and I am still waiting for my money. Do I have to take them to small claims court to get my money back?

Rover.com (San Francisco), sitter [Che-Yuan L.] broke my dog's leg! I explicitly told him NOT to let my dog run off leash in a park, he ignored my request. Later, he claimed that my dog mysteriously hurt his leg "jumping" in his apartment (note: his profile stated that dogs are not allowed on the furniture.) My dog has a fractured leg that could not have happened from simply jumping (at home he jumps from the sofa & bed w/o issue). Avoid Rover.com at all cost!

I paid for boarding for 18 days. Handed my dog over and 6 hours he was no longer with the boarders, there was a hole in their fence and he had escaped. I had five days of worry and emotional destress. He was exposed to a major highway and could have killed. He was found on the fifth day and spent the remaining time with a friend. I have asked for a refund and was told they had refunded the money in October. They were not paid until November and the stay was in December. They are responding to me with rubbish. Don't risk your dogs life with rover.

Sitter did not show up last day so we had to make arrangements long distance for three dogs to be taken care of. Sitter was late to every appointment each day they did watch our dogs. Once we got back it took two days of trying to contact the sitter to get our keys back finally they got back to us just to tell us they lost our house keys. Rover could have cared less not even an apology for the issue. All they said was lock smith is not covered by our guarauntee. Had not even asked for anything in return was just voicing our concerns. Very disappointed and will not use or recommend.

Dangerous! 5 star sitter didn't do anything she was told. Found medication on the floor, cat was left outside, w/o telling me, left w/o telling me, etc. Working with Rover about this right now, but it just is a very dangerous business model. It's like hiring someone off Craigslist. You know, your sitter can just not show up and your trip will be ruined and Rover is not responsible. You are hiring an independent contractor, not Rover. NEVER AGAIN!

In the past, I have used this pet sitting service for my 2 toy poodles (7 lbs. each) in Florida and have been happy. But the experience in NYC was extremely disappointing so I question how they screen both the sitter and the apartment the pets will be staying in. My experience demonstrated that they do a very poor job of both. Plus, some of their sitters are extremely expensive - daily rates run from $100 - $75 to care for one dog. I was dropping my dogs off at the sitter's apartment on the Upper eastside - a very tiny and cluttered studio - only to find a huge Doberman Pincher was being cared for, in addition to her own dog. The apartment was so small and cluttered that it was... Read More

My dog got injured My dog stayed for 4days with a dog sitter that Rover.com provides. As soon as i got my dog, i found something wrong with her. She was shivering and trembling with fear. When i closely looked at her, i got shocked. Her right eye was filled with blood. I visited a vet, and he says, it is hyposphagma (Subconjunctival bleeding) that is only caused by external attack or choking. So, i reported about this issue to Rover.com, and it says i have to pay $250 to start claiming. My dog was not safe and I almost feel the urge to report the dog sitter for dog abuse, but there is no CCTV or no evidence or no witness.

One of Rover.com sitters had a Pitbull he was sitting and left the door open and his side gate open, he was sitting the dog at his house, I was walking by the house with my 2 dogs on leash I saw the dog on the side deck it started to bark then it charged at us at that moment I noticed the gate open we ran backwards into the street not even looking for cars then the dog bit my female as she tried to run behind me then it turned on my male bit him at that point I let loose of the leash and let my boy have at it (Basenji hunting dog) it jumped the dog as I was fumbling to get a metal Fast strike tactical whip to beat the attacking dog just at that moment a kid grabbed the dog and saved it... TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I booked a sitter named Rhonda (don't use her!!). She was supposed to be there in the morning, never showed, then cancelled my entire booking because she got angry when i asked her when she would be arriving. Terrible terrible experience. The Company Rover tried to find me another sitter but NO WAY would I use them again. If you are going to hire someone who does this to you??? Out of town and nobody to watch my furry babies because Rhonda got 'but-hurt'???? There was a recording of the text messages, absolutely nothing out of line by me - I can never use them again and sleep good at night.
