Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

My dog had eaten a stuffed pumpkin toy and needed surgery to remove it. Luckily I had decided to get pet insurance thru Healthy Paws a few months earlier after someone had suggested it. The surgery was $5000 total and Healthy Paws was even able to do a direct pay of their portion straight to the vet so I didn't have to come up the full amount all at once and then wait to get reimbursed. The whole process went so smooth, all I did was email the estimated bill to Healthy Paws and then they dealt with the hospital directly and everything was paid for by the time my dog was discharged. I HIGHLY recommend Healthy Paws!!

Healthy Paws is not some big insurance corporation, faceless and nameless. Claims are processed very quickly and the few times, additional details are requested, it’s a personal email or even a call to help guide one to getting what is needed. This is the way insurance and frankly all business should run. Excellent company. Don’t hesitate to insure your pets’ health.

Healthy Paws is the best. Their customer service is A1 and their insurance is affordable and will help to give your beloved animals the quality care they deserve. My dog had a horrible accident three years ago and they have been wonderful ever since helping us to keep our baby alive and free of pain. I recommend them to everyone.

I did a lot of research very confusing after reading reviews on all insurance companies. I picked healthy paws and I am very pleased with my decision. Customer service is always willing to help answering all my questions they are always very accommodating. I just filed my first claim and received my refund check in a prompt time. I highly recommend this company!!

I was very skeptical about pet insurance, but after incurring some hefty bills with my previous dog, I decided that for $32 a month I'd rather have the peace of mind. I signed up my new rescue dog, who was about four years old. A few months later (in April), she started showing signs of patellar luxation, but the vet could not confirm it at the time. I quickly went through my deductible with the medications he prescribed for pain management and joint health, and HP's coverage kicked in right away, no questions asked. My two cats have been on Healthy Paws insurance since we adopted them and luckily didn't need to use it... until earlier this month. One of them ended up with an emergency situation due to bladder stones, was hospitalized for 3 nights and had to have an urgent cystotomy. Thanks to Healthy Paws, I didn't have to worry about how would have to afford the $9,000+ bill and instead focused on making medical decisions based on what he needed. My wife and I are older, and after going without a dog for 17-years, we decided to open our home and hearts to a new puppy last year. I did say we're older and a bit wiser, yes? My wife suggested that we purchase a pet insurance policy, "just in case" and researched them all. We had to use our insurance through healthy paws within a month of obtaining the policy. The process was smooth and it is well worth the monthly premium. Let me also start by saying my husky has better insurance than I do for a lot cheaper. It paid for itself in one use with the money we saved. They even followed up with a personal email asking us how she was doing. Highly recommend.

I have nothing but praise for healthy paws. Their insurance is top notch. The quick payments are second to none and the follow up emails shows they care about my cats. I researched many other insurances and am very happy I went with healthy paws, they do give you peace of mind and you don’t have to worry about giving your pets the best care because of cost.
