Healthy Paws ranks highly among the pet insurance companies we've reviewed. The company offers a single pet insurance plan with multiple reimbursement options, comprehensive coverage for alternative therapy and no caps of any kind.

Reimbursement is based on the cost of your actual vet bill and there is no limit as to the type of or how many claims you can make for covered conditions. Healthy Paws provides all of this at the same or sometimes lower prices than less comprehensive plans.

Where Healthy Paws really asserts its dominance is in benefit limits. Regardless of the plan you choose, there are no caps on coverage, either annual, lifetime, or per incident.

Generally speaking, other companies offer unlimited benefits as an option available only for their highest level and most expensive plans. This is not the case with Healthy Paws; it is included in their standard price plan.

As long as the condition or treatment is covered under the plan (very few restrictions do apply) there is no limit to what the company will pay to make your animal well.

One Healthy Paws customer reported to us that the company recently paid out over $18,000 on a $20,000 vet bill in order to save the life of a dog suffering from cancer. More recently, another customer wrote, "I have a six-year-old German shepherd. Unfortunately, he already has had more than his share of problems, from herniated discs to cancer. Healthy Paws has not given me any hassle or trouble, even though his expenses to date are approaching $40,000. This was by far the best financial decision I have ever made."

As with deductibles, Healthy Paws is in line with the industry's best companies by allowing you the flexibility of customizing your reimbursement percentage as well.

You can select either 70%, 80%, or 90% at the outset of your policy. Healthy Paws reimbursement is based on the actual veterinary bill.

The company will compile all covered treatments for a given claim and pay your chosen percent after you've met the deductible. As with low deductibles, high percentage payouts are going to equal a more costly monthly premium.
In general, Healthy Paws pays on a reimbursement model. Policyholders pay the vet up front for treatment, submit their claims to Healthy Paws, and receive a reimbursement. However, in situations where pet owners can't pay their vet at the time of treatment, they have the option of contacting Healthy Paws and asking them to pay the vet directly. If the veterinary hospital is willing to accept payment from Healthy Paws, the insurer can work directly with it to expedite access to medical records and claim processing. This direct payment option is available on a case-by-case basis and applies to treatment by any licensed vet in the United States. It is not limited to any specific network of vets.

Healthy Paws enrolls pets 8 weeks and older. While some companies have no upper age enrollment restrictions, Healthy Paws limits coverage to pets 13.99 years old and younger.

Some companies offer accident coverage immediately upon premium payment. Healthy Paws imposes a 15-day waiting period for accidents and illnesses.

The waiting period for hip dysplasia is 12 months. Healthy Paws will not cover hip dysplasia if the pet was 6 years or older at the time of enrollment. Other companies we review have no such restrictions on hip dysplasia.

For pets younger than 6 you'll have to provide documentation of a complete physical within the last 12 months. Pets older than 6 must have had a complete examination within the last 30 days.

We have had Healthy Paws Insurance coverage for our pets for eight years . Their customer service is excellent. The Explanation of benefits is clear as well as claim procedures. Reimbursement is exceptionally timely especially if you use their app. I would not have a pet without having the protection of Healthy Paws. In my mind it is another must have insurance just like your health, homeowners and automobile. It is so worth the peace of mind and I don't believe there is a better plan available.

We have Healthy Paws insurance coverage for our two Olde English Bulldogges. Both have several typical health issues typical for bulldogs. The insurance coverage works exactly as described. Filing claims is a very simple process, and we are always reimbursed in a timely manner. I recommend Healthy Paws to anyone looking for quality pet insurance coverage.

They are FANTASTIC!!!! I've been with Healthy Paws for over 8 years and filed several claims as I have 3 older dogs. I've never had any dispute regarding settlements. They are prompt, polite, policy benefits are comprehensive and premium is fair. I'm an Insurance Broker myself and I've never had to pull this card to get them to cover or settle a claim in a timely manner. I love Healthy Paws!!!

I had been happy with HP until recently. Their customer service had always been excellent - people pick up the phone, talk easily with you, are well-informed, etc. Something has radically changed recently. First off, the customer service reps, the three I talked to recently trying to get a simple answer to a question about coverage for a new pet, didn't know anything. Also, their English was very poor, and they couldn't understand me either, so communication was extremely difficult. Each time, they said they would get a manager, put me on hold, and simply never came back to the phone. Each time, I waited almost half an hour before having to hang up. HP did not answer Tweets. As with any sort of hiring, there is always a learning curve as colleagues become more confident in both the policy and our internal processes. We value your feedback, and are actively communicating with all teams and trainers to continually fine-tune the customer experience. We're glad that our manager was able to reach you via email. In that email, so as not to play phone tag, he asked if you would like to provide some days and times for a callback that would be convenient for you. As he explained in his email, we have consolidated our policy options to reflect the most affordable and effective plans for pets that enroll with us. Our current filing in your state does not support the enrollment of pets who are five and older. We do our best to be transparent throughout our website, during the enrollment process and in the policy documents available to each client in their online Healthy Paws account regarding the limited exclusions of our policy. Those exclusions are pre-existing conditions, preventative/routine care and the office visit fee. Anyone visiting our website can see this information on our “Benefits, Coverage and Exclusions” page. By making the office visit fee (vet exam, emergency exam, recheck or consultation) part of the pet parent's financial responsibility, it allows us to offer a complete accident and illness plan at an affordable monthly premium. Our policyholders value comprehensive accident/illness coverage and unlimited benefits at reasonable rates, which is why they choose to assume the responsibility of paying for those costs.

We own a Pug, and he is our everything. I am so grateful we obtained pet insurance when he was young, and I am so grateful we decided on Healthy Paws (after extensive research and comparisons). I quite literally do not know where we would be without the support of Healthy Paws. Our Pug has been a little more high maintenance than most dogs :). Healthy Paws has always taken care of us. They respond quickly. They issue payments quickly. They even check in with me via email asking about how our Pug is doing. I never miss an opportunity to tell people to use Healthy Paws!

We love Healthy Paws pet insurance because you can set your own rate by choosing your deductible and your copay! We have a Saint Bernard who seems to have a lot of issues, so we choose the 90% coverage, which is great for us because it covers his expensive tests and procedures. But on our other dog, who doesn't need as much medical care, we choose the 70% option to save on the premium. Works out great for us. The claims process is easy and they pay quickly.

I have had awful experiences with three other pet insurance companies and had almost given up on the entire industry; but when we adopted my pup two years ago, I decided to give Healthy Paws a try. Two years later, Wally started limping, and now three months later, he's had major knee surgery followed by eight weeks of twice weekly hydrotherapy. I submitted the receipts expecting to get the run around. Instead...two weeks later a check showed up in my mailbox! Healthy Paws' easy process and expedience made a stressful experience so much easier, and cheaper too.

Our puppy has had a hard first year of life (he is only 10 months). Having pet insurance through this company was the best thing we ever did. We were so lucky to have one less thing to worry about given his never ending medical issues. I am so glad that finances are the last thing on my mind every time I have to take our dog Blue to the vet. Submitting a claim is so easy and the company really cares about your pet's well being. I couldn't recommend it more.

Healthy paws is a must! First time getting insurance for my kitties and they have already saved a life. Cali came down with a serious infection near her brain and they covered everything - even tried to pay the hospital directly. Having healthy paws I was able to focus on just getting her better.
