Do not take your pet to Banfield. Please read every website article and review, and you will NOT take your pet to Banfield. My dog almost died due to a toxic dose of anesthesia that he received during a teeth cleaning which was a service on the wellness plan. On top of paying for the wellness plan, I also wound up paying an animal hospital $1,200 because my dog was vomiting, had bloody diarrhea and wound up severely dehydrated. After spending hours on the phone speaking to everybody and anybody to try and get out of my wellness contract, I got screwed. DO NOT be sucked in. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR BANFIELD WELLNESS PLAN, IT'S A SCAM AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CANCEL. It's also NOT an pet insurance. It's a SCAM. I took my dog to Banfield to do shots and the vet and staff sold me on their wellness plan with teeth cleaning. DO NOT DO THE SAME MISTAKE. They sell you teeth cleaning but tell you that they will call you during the time your dog is under anesthesia and tell you if there need to be more services. They said that some people end up paying thousands of dollars extra for the "oral surgery" and extractions but they can't tell you upfront when your dog would need. I have had a horrible experience with Banfield Pet Hospital and Wellness plan. Short of it is you cannot cancel your plan or they will bill you for many many more months of plan. They send you to collections. They never have the same veterinarian twice. Customer service at the hospital is very poor. Customer service at the corporate level is very robotic and they never address your issues. The worst is they tried to take 3 teeth from my dog (but they were unable to get approval over the phone) The teeth are still there, six months later. I took my chihuahua to Bansfield for almost 4 years. I thought I could trust the vets, WRONG!! One day she was coughing and took her to Bansfield because I had the pet insurance. They ran all kind of test, even a heart scan and they diagnosed her with kennel cough. I asked how could she have this when she has NEVER been in a kennel or around other dogs?? Was told it just happens. Well after paying over $200 for services not covered under the insurance including a heart scan, she wasn't getting any better. Never buy this insurance for your pet. It is a fraud. My dog has to go under emergency surgery thanks to a bad procedure of a Banfield hospital. When his uterus was removed, they did things badly and now she has a serious infection. While my dog was in this country and while I had Banfield, she was never followed up by a sonogram. My dog lives in Colombia, S.A. and thanks to being able to go to a good hospital they could find the cause of the infection. Apart from this, every year they did the Lime disease test, it always came back negative and it turns out that my dog also has Lime. I chose this isurance plan for my cat after I had him spayed. I never used the service, only once when he got sick, otherwise it was a waste of money. I paid, 30 something dollars a month, and when I needed to take him in to be seen, I always walked out paying over 100.00 dollars, how does that work. Second time I ever had to take my cat, they did not know what was wrong with him and even though their company name is PET HOSPITAL, they could not treat him. DO NOT USE IF YOU NEED TO FLY PETS IN CARGO BELOW 45 DEGREES OUTSIDE! They are not willing to write any form of documentation to allow pets to fly in temperatures below 45 degrees on airlines. We paid for the banfield pet service for 3 years (20/month) without ever needing it really... when the time comes to need them, a few days before we move... they let you down. We are now at risk of having to leave our pets behind while moving, because they are unwilling to meet airline regulations for flying! Wow, I will never use this service again. Ive paid for this "Wellness program" for 9 years, and I just had to put my dog down 3 days ago. I called to cancel the program, and was told that I still owe 3 more months of payments. WHAT?!?! This was never explained to me 9 years ago when I signed up. Since I took him for his shots THREE days before he was put down, I still owe them????? They are the WORST. STAY AWAY
I have been with Banfield over 7 years. Although I like the pet hospitals that we have been to, I am very disappointed in their pet insurance. I moved from NY to North Carolina 13 months ago and called Banfield about 4 months ago when I realized that NC prices are cheaper, they have been overcharging me $12 every month that I've lived here. When I called to change my monthly fee, they told me that I don't have a contract, but they still have to charge me NY prices. I told them to have a manager call me so we can discuss this further. Do not sign up, scam. You pay and they never can get you in for an appointment. You can drop off, or schedule month's in advance. Well what if something comes up? Better just call somewhere else first. It is November, and I have been paying since June. I have not been able to get my pet in since that first visit, but they never miss taking my money. I call to cancel, and am told I will have to pay for the rest of the year now then, wait , what? We paid for this plan in full on time for 16 years ($9,216.00). My wife thought it was a "good deal" because they sold us "insurance". What a rip-off. When the dog had to be put down I was happy to cancel it - but we were told that we owed an additional $320.00 because the dog already had its first exam for that year (where they tried relentlessly to push additional treatments on an animal that was both blind but also near death). Turns out it is not "insurance" but all you are doing is paying up front for a $576 annual checkup. Banfield cares about the bottom dollar. They are owned by Mars and big money speaks. No compassion for losing your job, your furbaby or better yet being told by a vet, "I dont know what you expect me to do about it". Well for one thing your a Veterinarian and I have my furbaby here for you to help. He was having seizures and had gone blind. The specialist was taking care of blindness but seizures were a mystery. This doctor needs to go back to school. Banfield has some good docs but they leave after a couple years. I have used Banfields for years trying to get out of the plan is a nightmare. My ocicat Ziva developed FIP. After a month and a half fight to save her life, we ultimately had to put her to sleep to end her suffering. And yes, I will need to continue making monthly payments for four more months after her death. However, the unlimited office visits, and discounts on services and medications, that I received during her illness due to having her on the Essential Wellness Plan, still made the Plan an excellent value. This company is the worst and unethical pet insurance company out there and should be boycotted in fact Pet Smart should be ashamed that they have them in there stores. They are fraudulent and predatory. Poor customer service, practice usury, and beware of the fine print as they will bill you and renew your contract without authorization. Beware Beware Beware
Beware when you sign up for this service. If your pet dies you still have to pay for the whole year. I renewed my dog's plan and found out within a few days that she had cancer which they couldn't treat. They referred me to a different Vet. She later died and I found out I had to pay the remaining months on the plan or pay for the ONE visit I had which was $1600. BE CAREFUL with these people.
DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!! PLEASE DO NOT SIGN THE CONTRACT!!! IT'S a RIP OFF! They are preying on people when they are feeling helpless and scared with sick pets! They are a large corporation FOR PROFIT and THATS what they care about. Not you or your pet. Any good vets that work there move on because of this. I read the reviews with great enthusiasm and the feeling I get is Banfield tries to "upsell" for servicrs not covered and brings on the "guilt trip" tp add additional pressure. This is particularly true with the male Vet at the Wesley Chapel Banfiled location. Unless you want the "used car salesman" approach to your pet care.. avoid the male Vet at this location. I am seriously reconcidering renewing my insurance plan at Banfield.
I initially signed up for my puppy to be nutured and 35 days later changed my mind, because they charged additional monthly installments that equaled 326.00 and other hospitals, nonmember rates were $136.00 Banfield refused to reimburse my first two months and took an additional two months before canceling the unused service. They SUCK and their staff is incompetent, specially customer dis-service headquarters.
As a result of the incompetent staff (the vet), my 5 year old bull mastiff is dead...They killed her by mismanagement of her diagnosis. They try to suck you out of money charging you for services not covered in the wellness plan. They don't listen to your concerns and think they are doing you a favor. By the time I took my dog to a real veterinarian, they informed me it was too late. Please take your beloved pet to a real vet...not a revolving door pet cemetery
We had insurance for our dog. Our dog dies and they still want to charge us for the remaining year. It does not make sense. We pay over $45 a month, the dog dies and they still want our money. It's incredible!!! Do not go into contract with them on a month to month payment. It's a rip off! They get you when the dog dies and you end up paying more for the services rendered. I ended paying over $500 to end the contract.
The wellness plan is a joke. We have had the plan for over 10 years and our dog died this month. When I emailed them to cancel the plan they informed us that we would have to pay over $900 to get out of the plan or continue to pay the monthly installments for another 7 months. This is advertised as insurance, but is just a scam.
If you care anything about your pet stay far away from this place! It's a scam! They care very little about your pet, and a lot about money. I took my bulldog in to get his puppy shots and ended up paying over $500!! Stay FAR away!
I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME ON THIS PLAN AS LONG AS I LIVE! I've had my dog since he was 6 weeks old, he's had some version of Banfield's Wellness Plan since he was 8 weeks old. I currently pay 55.00 a month. He'll be 7 next month (June). Besides his annual checkups, heartworm and vaccinations I've never needed to use the plan for emergencies (thank God), until today. My dog woke up this morning barely able to walk not able to maneuver my stairs at all and it seemed to worsen as the day progressed.
