Choice Home Warranty is a New Jersey-based company founded in 2008 which offers services contracts. Their plans offer protection against the cost of repair or replacement of major systems and appliances in the home via several plans. Each plan also offers optional coverage for septic systems, pools /spas, well pumps, sump pumps, central vacuuming systems, limited roof leaks, second refrigerators, and standalone freezers.

Choice Home Warranty feels like a scam. They look for every possible reason to avoid covering repairs. I filed a claim for a single plumbing issue, and after inspection it turned out there were two failed parts contributing to the same problem. Instead of handling it as one repair, they refused to cover both and told me I had to submit a second claim for the other part. Even worse, for the first issue they approved only a tiny fraction of the repair cost and expected me to pay around 90% out of pocket. That completely defeats the purpose of having a home warranty. I purchased the insurance 5 months ago. This was the first time I used it. Water heater was leaking at the bottom. CHW could not find any technician to come out and fix/replace it. I was told to look for a technician myself. I found one who showed up right away but the process to get pre approved the repair took too long and he left without doing anything other than telling me it needed to be replaced. The cost he quoted was $6,000. CHW authorized $1,300 for the replacement! That was disappointing since I assumed they would go with the max allowed for any appliance which is $3,000! I called because my kitchen sink was clogged. The next day a plumber came to the house and the problem was solved. Can't ask for any better than that.
I paid my copay of $65. He would have charged $125.
