Coverage Options - 4 / 5

American Home Guard offers straightforward, transparent coverage plans for systems, appliances, or both. They also extend optional coverage for such items as pools or spas, sprinkler systems, roof leaks, well pumps, and septic tanks. AHG has a per-item benefit limit of $500 for heating and cooling equipment for the first three months of coverage, which increases to $2,000 after that initial period. Similarly, their benefit limit per appliances, plumbing, and electrical starts out at $150 and increases to $500 after the first three months. Although coverage amounts are limited during the initial coverage period, their repair and replacement allowance is quite generous when compared to that of similar providers, making them an excellent option for homeowners looking to get the most out of their dollar.

Reputation - 4.4 / 5

American Home Guard is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau or is a member of the NHSCA. On January of 2017, the BBB identified a pattern of complaints against business and requested information from them regarding the matter. Although AHG responded to the BBB's request, they failed to address the underlying problems causing discontent among their customers and were given the lowest possible rating. In spite of everything, American Home Guard maintains a high Trustpilot score and enjoys many more positive reviews than negative ones on the Better Business Bureau website.

We just found out that our rental house has not been covered since October, we received no notice of renewel so I went to call them and found the number was no longer in service. Then I googled the company and found they went out of business. We didn't receive any letter or email about this. I am not very happy about this.

American Home Guard is a fraudulent company, they stole $959.98 from us we signed up for a military member contract, and never paid any claims we were denied! denied! so we cancelled in three month and they refused to pay us our money back or even return are calls.

My husband signed a contract with them back at the end of October 2017. We both are retirees and struggled to pay up 1,749.99$ towards their best plan where they offered a 5 years coverage for repairs of all our electrical and kitchen appliances. Their customer service, namely David on ext 214 had supposedly given us one additional free of charge year coverage. Only a month ago, we needed our refrigerator to be repaired and phoned them. Some ladies answered our phone call and claimed not to have anything to do with this company which is very hard to believe, unless American Home Guard has acquired a different license to operate under a different name. We were shocked to know that they... Read More

CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND REPORT AS FRAUD! I bought coverage from them back in February 2018. Paid $750 for 36 months of coverage. They were one of the highest rated providers on this website - I can't believe they are still listed as an 8.7 rating here (total lack of accountability from Consumer Advocate.org). This company went under and they never warned their consumers. Hopefully, your credit card company will help you recover your cost - I am waiting to hear back from mine. Again - why is this company still highly rated on consumeradvocate.org???

worst company. They did not pay the contractor, I called, emailed numerous time to American Home Guard but they still refused to pay. Now my home just got a line from the contractor!! American Home Guard also owed me $250 check they were supposed to reimburse me for a claim I paid from my pocket first as they instructed, but they NEVER mailed the check and it has been 6 month already!!

I put in a claim to American Home Guard on July 11, 2018 for my stove cook top. It is now Oct. 9, 2018 and I paid a $60.00 fee for an appliance person to come repair it but he needed to get parts. Someone came and looked again and said they needed to get parts or get new one. AHG sent someone (I think) and they said not to use it as it might be dangerous. I have made numerous calls to AHG claims and spoke with Jason or others in the claims department and I always get that they will call me back. I have never received a call back. Now when I call I get the recorded message to leave my name and number and someone will call me back. I have not received a call back yet. Is it normal to... Read More

You need to contact me asap. I filed my claim 5 days ago and was sold the policy on the belief that there was a 24 hour call back. Please contact me asap to resolve this matter. I have left multiple messages and not heard a thing from any representative. Please follow up and contact me asap. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Anna Tamburro

Stay away from this company. After I finally read the contract (font is so small that you need a magnifying glass to read it) I realized that there were so many ways they could deny a claim that the policy was basically worthless. I requested that the policy be cancelled. After two weeks I followed up on my refund and was told they do not issued refunds until after 30 days (no explanation as to why). Two weeks ago (09/14/2018) I was told that my check had been sent. So far no check and lots of runaround. Terrible company!!

I agreed. They don't do any service. No return calls or emails. I have tried different ways to get them to answer the phone calls and I got through them maybe after 20 tries. They would come out with different excuses that why that was. No matter what they said nothing got repaired. I already had 2 companies quit on them because they don't feel that they would get paid for their service. Terrible, Terrible , Terrible. I filed complains with BBB and they didn't answer.

Worst company in the market! I had to pay out of pocket for a repair on my clothes dryer and was told once the claim doc was signed and returned I would have a reimbursement check within 30 days. Electronic docs were signed and returned 7/24/2018 and I still do not have a check. I have spoken to several different people in "customer service", sent e-mails and left voice mail messages with the claims department over the last week. I cannot get a straight answer or tracking and I am beginning to think that I will never get this reimbursement. Totally disgusted with this company and I hope people out there realize they are worthless before they spend the money for a useless policy... Read More

Terrible company. They auto-renew my insurance 2.5 months before the expiration without asking me. When I requested the refund their customer service rep was rude. I called and emailed numerous times, nobody responded. They will happily take your money, but will never answer. Stay away from this scam company!

Please have Mr. Vincent Hamilton call me as soon as possible. I am about to contact an attorney in Philadelphia to establish a claim in Small Claims court there where I will attend a court hearing to resolve my issue and complaint. No call back from AHG to me or the contractor who was sent out by AHG. That is, the AC contractor contacted by AHG to come to our home and fix our problem has not been contacted as their calls continue to be ignored. My contract is AHG106190

DO NOT buy home warranty coverage from this company. I purchased one year of coverage in July, 2017. Never made a claim whatsoever. Sales people called me in May, 2018 to renew for another year. I said, "No, I did not want to spend the money." In July, 2018 they charged my credit card anyway for another year of coverage. I was unaware of the charge until six days later. Called to cancel. Initially was told that cancellation must be in writing. Sent email notification requesting to cancel. Received cancellation notice stating entire amount would be refunded if cancelled within 30 days. I have called numerous times during office hours or not. Never able to talk with billing... Please… Please..DO NOT buy this insurance (American Home Guard) and allow yourself cheated! I bought this insurance (Blue plan) in March 2018. I called this company for a kitchen faucet leakage in last week of June. Until now (July 17th) , the issue is not resolved. I made at least 10 phone calls to this company. Every time I call, their response is “We are negotiating with a contractor, you will get an email before end of the day”. That email is never going to come until you make another two more calls. Finally, one contractor came after 10 calls. Up on his findings, the faucet need to be replaced. After the inspection, the leakage got worse. Again, I called the American Home Guard to... Read More

I was a little hesitant signing up at first but I’m really glad I did. My garage door wouldn’t open the other night when I got home from work. The motor wasn’t working at all so I called in the next day to get someone to come out and fix it. Raul was a really friendly and fixed it for me.

This was a very good company. I have four rental properties under American home guard. My tenants have filed a lot of claims and every claim was approved for them.
