Vivint pairs their innovative, self-designed technology for home automation with customizable plans and flexible payment options, to make for excellent home security. Their aim to provide fully connected systems for the home puts them on the forefront of the industry. However, equipment costs can mount fairly quickly, and monthly monitoring fees are on the high side.

Vivint offers both pre-selected home security packages and fully customizable options as well with professional installation at no extra cost, except in the cases of their outdoor and doorbell cameras. Hardware options begin with the SkyControl Panel, to which additional devices are added, such as their doorbell camera, ping camera, outdoor camera, smart locks, element thermostat, etc, all of which feature a lifetime warranty. Vivint's connected home technology offers a wide variety of optional sensors, such as smoke, glass break, carbon monoxide, and flood, all of which can all be controlled via the Vivint app. All in all, a very strong equipment package and suite of features.

Even if a disconnection with the central monitoring station occurs, their touch screen panel sends email and text alerts. Vivint has great salesmen on the floor! They obviously train their people correctly. I'm starting to see what their catch is! They go from home to home NOT ALL of them; just the ones that already have an alarm system in place such as ADT! They tell you all the great things about their up to date system but what they leave out is that they use your old system's sensors and NEVER update them with new ones! We started having HUGE problems with our sensors going out and they tried to charge us for new ones! BULLSHIT! ADT was the best hands down! Stay away from VIVINT if you value your home's safety.

Two young guys stopped by and were really sly in their approach as I was working outside. My wife and I had been talking about a system so the timing was right. They spent the better part of the afternoon at the house and were nice enough guys, telling us all of the things this great system would do. All this could be installed immediately as the installers were in the area. Some of the equipment promised were smoke detectors and and outside camera. Well surprise surprise they didn't have any outside cameras and nobody Texas certified to install smoke detectors. This review is not of about the quality of the Vivint system but about their deplorable sales practices. A door-to-door sales rep. visited my 87-year old mother-in-law who at the time was in the early stages of dementia. He talked her into signing a 5-year contract for an alarm system that she did not understand how to use. We tried last week to have the system removed because her condition has deteriorated to the point that she requires nursing home care. We had no idea there was a long term contract until we called to have the system removed. We have had Vivint for just about a year. They proclaim to be "leaders in home innovation", we have not found this to be true in our case. They showed up almost immediately to install the system, and then tried to charge us more than what the original offer was. They also told us we could get functionality that in fact, we found we could not get after signing a long term contract. We started having problems almost immediately with the back up battery not working correctly (turned out to be a loose wire from when the tech installed it). My family purchased our home in 2010. We immediately looked into getting a home alarm system and Vivint seemed to have everything we were looking for. We signed a 4 year contract (mandatory) and regretted it immediately! The equipment worked less then it was broken, installers were shady, unprofessional, untrained young men, customer service was atrocious and the price was a joke after comparing to comparable companies! We signed with them rather then others because we really liked the doorbell with camera option.... My wife and I got vivint when we first moved into our home. They seemed to get good reviews, after all of this though, this company is HORRIBLE! Just plain HORRIBLE! A sensor was installed wrong on our garage door resulting in the need to keep our garage door bypassed for a few weeks.If a sensor goes bad, you can either get a technician to come out and install a new one in 14+ days or wait 5+ days for them to mail you one. Well we have had a few of their sensors go bad on us, resulting in us having a door or window bypassed (that is the alarm is no activitly watching that door or window) so someone could have broken into our home without anyone knowing. When i bought my new house I decided to put in a security system. Vivint bugged me and bugged me so I decided to talk to them. They made it sound real good, you know free installation, state of the art blah, blah, blah. Anyway I went with them and after I had signed the contract I found out they were not going to put NEW anything in! They just used the same sensors and everything else that was already there, which belonged to ADT. I would NEVER recommend Vivint. 1st the salesman lied and said that I could get out of the agreement if I moved. 2nd when we moved there were no technicians available to install the system in our new home for over a month. 3rd the installer got frustrated and left without installing anything, saying he would come back later. 4th he never came back 5th When I called to make a new appointment no one was available for another month 6th No one called to determine why my system was not functional -- does not sound like active monitoring to me. 7th Calls required a 45 minute wait for a person 8th No supervisors were available to hear my complaints/concerns. 9th Billing... We had Vivint installed in our home when we moved in last year. The installer obviously been well trainned, and we were really pleased in the installation. We've been really pleased with the Vivint system and their response times to a few false alarms.
