When I decided to not go with Vivint Home Security, I called to get my refund. I kept being transferred and was on hold for over an hour.. Bad business... I know now that I will never go with vivint even if i did change my mind..
My alarm goes off and I don't even get a phone call making sure everything is ok. In 4 years it has gone off about 10 times and I only got a call once. Vivid came out and replaced the consol and said it was problem but yet it's gone off 3 times and 0 phone calls. The front door lock got water in it after a year and they didn't want to warranty it because of the water. It's a door lock exposed to weather. It's a sealed part and only way water gets in it is if seals fail. Very unhappy with this company!
My panel has been resetting itself over and over again on its own. I called Vivint Tech Support and we went thru the remote reset procedure. They said all was ok. Once off the phone the alarm went off again when I tried to arm my home. I called back and they took me thru the procedure again and made an appointment in two days to send someone out because the battery was swelling inside the panel box. I called back and told them I did not want to wait two days going without an alarm system. I was then told they would text me the name and time for someone to come out the next day. I have owned a Vivint Smart Home System for about 1 1/2 Years. During that time and especially in the beginning I was never trained on how to use their system control panel, except to be asked to enter my four digit code. The installer asked me if I had any questions, I stated that I had never had such a system, so how could I have questions. The door to door salesman, I found out later, did not comply with the state of Idaho regulations by not giving me a copy of the signed contract. He stated that he could not give me a copy of the contract because his electronic pad could not print. Stay away from this company! We signed a 42 month contract with them back in 2011. Had the monthly payment of $49.99 automatically taken out of our ban account. We sold our home in June of 2017 and notified Vivint to discontinue the service as of August 2017. They told us we couldn't do that and that we were obligated to pay until February of 2018 unless we paid $180 to have the service transferred to our new home or the new owners took over the service. I went to our bank in August and had them stop the auto payment. I am no longer under contract with them but they argued I am! Terrible. Lost more peace of mind with this company than if I had a burglar. Five appointments for an install. First two techs did not have the license to install sensors. I called and supervisor assured me the next one would. Sure enough, he didnt. Tech 4 did. However, after 1 day, the system started going offline and online again all night. The doorbell cam malfunctioned. the set up a tech call the next day. The panel needed updated for it to work properly. It failed at updating. The techs blamed the internet. A word to the wise...believe the negative reviews! I was very excited to purchase a state of the art security system through Best Buy. After reading many of the negative comments, I was on the fence to move forward with Vivint but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I was hoping the positive comments and a positive article I read about the company were true vs the many negative reviews. The company called the night before to confirm my appointment time of between 4 -8 pm. Customer service is terrible when you have a problem and don't want to renew your contract. It's been 2 years and I am still waiting on a return phone call, email, or text message. After talking to a rep not knowing my husband told them he did not want a contract, I got an offer and had 3 days to cancel. Cancelled in less than 24 hours and was told it cancelled. Days later a tech came out to install new equipment. Called company, emailed EVERYONE we talked to for 6 months and to this day (2 years later) no one have contact us back. Alerts are great however.
Worst company ever, every time you call they put you on hold forever. They said my bill was 129 then charge me 150 when I called to ask why they put me on hold forever then said the finance department that handles bills just closed 10 minutes ago. Ridiculous! I’m calling them tomorrow and they can come get all their equipment out of my house. How can I give them 0 stars?

Avoid Vivint! Horrible customer service. Check out the yelp reviews and you'll get a true picture of their ratings. We had our system for several years and during that time, customer service went from "ok" to awful. A sales crew came through our neighborhood and they asked how they liked our system and if we would recommend it to others. I was honest, told him what my issues were, and said I would not recommend it to anyone. He said he would be back to try to resolve an issue with our panel but guess what? He never returned. They care more about getting more sales than providing quality customer service to their existing customers. If I could rate them less than a 1 I would.
This is a horrible dishonest company! Every time I set the alarm....it would send a false alarm out and the Sheriffs Department would be alerted..sometimes with multiple alerts on the same day! VERY ..VERY UNRELIABLE! I called many times...techs wouldn't show or when they finally did , I was informed that the system was working with nothing wrong with it! The next time I would set it...same thing with multiple false alarms....I tried and tried to get this resolved and they never did get it working properly. This company is horrible! This is the worst and deceptive company I've ever done business with. From the beginning they sell the service as being the best, lie to you on the service you will receive. They tell you, you have all this credit to spend on equipment of your choosing and sucker you into a 4 YEAR CONTRACT TO PAYOFF ALL THAT FREE MONEY THEY CLAIM you get. I was told if any of the equipment failed it will be replaced. NOT. They assess a $50 fee to come out. If you call about malfunctioning they hit you with a $50 service call fee every time. If you mail in the equipment which is crazy vs sending out a tech when they admit it's a equipment failure on their part, it takes months to get back. I returned the... Read More
Uses existing parts from past alarm companies and leads you to think you are getting news sensors. Called 5 times to get a copy of contact. Don't have one yet.
Set up an appt. tech never showed called and was hung up on 3 times these people are rude and unprofessional . Before I got the appt . had to call 3 times because they could not reach anyone should have been my first clue.
DO NOT USE VIVINT!!! Vivint is extorting me for a service I do not use. I changed companies, had a new panel installed, and called to cancel the service. After getting billed again I called. They claim I entered into a new contract with them until 2020, which is ridiculous since I have service from another company and do not plan to live in this house that long. If I do not pay, they threatened, I will have to pay the entire amount due plus all legal fees which will be extensive. With this threat I'm forced to continue paying them for a service I do not use. PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.
I was looking for a cellular system with remote garage control, smart locks, doorbell, and indoor cameras, ideally with professional installation. Vivint seemed to be the perfect fit. After just 12 hours of installation I had to cancel the service. The doors fail to lock, the garage door would open but not close remotely (I 'd be ok with the opposite), and the indoor cameras (as expensive as the nest system) would not capture and save any videos. I do not recommend this security system. Most of the bad reviews reflected issues with customer service or the contract, but it seems that the core issue is the company's bad equipment.
So far I have loved the system. I have the doorbell camera, door and window sensors/glass breaks, fire alarm alert sensor, etc. I did have to call customer service (technical support) and honestly, outside of technical support, I like the system. The price is about what everyone else is charging so nothing exciting there. Installation was free. Equipment on payment plan. No contract. The customer service/technical support needs work. The guy who did the installation was great...fantastic. He came back out to install a couple of other items that I felt that I needed...great person to person service. I have no complaint. Stay away from this company. We sold our house and put the contract on hold until we understood if the new place would need a security system, we found it has a internal system so Vivint said they would just charge the monthly rate until the contract was done, I continue to be charged and they said they put us on month to month, even though they were doing nothing for a service, could not make anyone list said the needed to have a official cancellation which was done months ago but they would not accept that. There is NO service after the sale. They will say you own the equipment - you are responsible for the maintenance. They will try to charge you for fixing a panel that is faulty.. They will not be able to fix problems over the phone -- even after 4 technicians try and you spend 8+ hours on the phone with them.
The Smart Home works very well but it is quite glitchy. In 4 months we've had several false alarms because the system does not disarm according to rules we set. Then we finally had a security event. The Front Doorbell Camera was stolen without any alarm, notification, recording... and then Vivint would not cover the replacement of their own equipment. We find it absurd that the company you hire to protect your property won't even cover the theft of their own property.
In my opinion-complete waste of an hour. I believe the Agent went over all the features ad nauseam even thought I told him I had a good basic understanding of the working structure of home security. He quoted me a reasonable monthly fee, then in my opinion he finally casually slips in the fact that one camera and a door bell monitor and a couple of sensors will cost $1,100. The, I believe because I didn't want to have a credit check run before I decided to make a commitment to use their services he told me they needed a $550 deposit that they will hold. i really love vivint, a couple of times my boyfriend was cooking foor on stove on high, arlarm with off, i heard fire trucks start up before i could call and say everything was ok, i love how quick their response is. i feel so safe
