Monitoring Options and Technology - 3 / 5
When it comes to monitoring, Protection 1 has five UL Certified monitoring centers throughout the nation. The company employs a triple redundancy monitoring plan that comprises its main monitoring station in Kansas equipped with a backup system and an off-site monitoring station that can operate until the main center is operational again. With 24/7 security monitoring, a triggered alarm sends an immediate notification that will be answered in under 10 seconds.
The security system installed on the property also has a redundancy protocol. In the event of a power outage, the keypads and sensors can continue to work normally on backup battery power and the optional cellular service will connect customers to the monitoring center. Customers can also receive notifications by text if a window is left open or the motion detector senses activity.

Protection1 Reputation
Reputation - 2.5 / 5
Protection 1 was founded in 1991, and it’s based in Lawrence, Kansas. The company was initially accredited by the Better Business Bureau in the year 2000, and it holds an A+ rating. Protection 1 has recently done away with automated phone systems. Instead, customers who call speak to a highly trained representative to assist them. Customer service will answer your call within one or two rings. The provider's average response time to an alarm or signal is about 10 seconds, one of the best in the industry.
Regarding customer satisfaction, the reviews are somewhat mixed. While many praise the customer support and monitoring provided by Protection 1, others were not happy with several of the authorized dealers who installed their systems, and others mentioned the high cancellation fee.
Be sure to check local reviews before committing to any monitoring provider. We must add that in 2017 Protection 1 and ADT merged. Both companies are now managed by Protection 1 CEO Tim Whall.

Protection1 Summary
In Conclusion
In business for over 25 years, Protection 1 is one of the largest home security providers in the nation. The company's non-automated customer support that lets clients talk to a real customer service representative with an incredibly short wait time certainly gives the company something to brag about.
Protection 1 appears to be better suited for homeowners who are not planning to move in the near future. Because the home security provider requires customers to sign a 36-month monitoring agreement, those who decide to cancel their contract will have to pay the full amount owed at the time of termination. The company does offer to transfer your existing service to your new address but be ready to pay a $150 fee toward the installation of a new system. This offer seems to be available to only customers who have fulfilled their initial 36-month agreement and are willing to sign up for another three-year contract. Renters can find a better-suited company.
If you are looking for home automation capabilities, Protection 1 Smart Control offers one the most comprehensive smart home plans in the business. Users can have total control of their Protection 1 System by downloading the app from the App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft.
The totally integrated system lets users receive real-time alerts by sending notifications right to their smartphones. Moreover, when the home security system integrates surveillance cameras, users are able to watch live feed right on their phone, and with the integration of apps made for Apple TV & Amazon Fire TV, customers can watch up to four simultaneous video streams through their smart home's television or tablet. Homeowners who have an Apple or Pebble watch are able to perform basic home automation right from their wrists. Another cool feature is geo-fencing, which utilizes your phone’s location to automatically adjust the home’s temperature and turn lights and video cameras on and off based on its location.
The deductible reimbursement program provided by Protection 1, SafetyNet is a service that will pay up to $1,000 for your insurance’s deductible if your home is burglarized while it is being monitored by Protection 1. Customers need to submit a copy of the receipt with the amount paid to the client’s home insurance provider within 90 days in order to be reimbursed.
