Terrible Experience with ADT. I signed up with ADT and was locked into a 2 year agreement. We had a home break in. upon showing up to my home and the back door wide open and my house a mess. I sat outside, phone in hand waiting for them to call. After a few min. i called the police and followed with a call to them. I sat on hold and after several minutes they said what can we help you with? I had to notify them that my house had been broken into. They apologized and said my account was OFF LINE. There 'free' offer when the technician came out was $6,500, 2nd estimate $4,200 . There is a 'credit' that came with the offer but all still out of my price range. I had been told I could get a refund of my deposit if I didn't buy the system. I called - Rep #1 couldn't help so transferred me to a different department. He kept trying to talk me into all sorts of things. I just kept saying "I would like a refund please". After about 4 trys I told him I would just keep saying that until he did. He put me on hold and never came back. Called again - Rep #3 said she could not transfer me anywhere but that my account was 'in process' and it would 30+ days to get the refund. I... Read More

ADT is a great system until something happens. And workers in my house working on my air-conditioning and heating system. The carbon monoxide detector went off in the fire department was called through the ADT system. After two hours and for department finally be carried out with the source of the leak was as well as the gas company. They recommended that we contact for security company ADT and have a service on the carbon monoxide system. After contacting ADT service and notifying them that we have had multiple carbon dioxide alerts that we needed a technician out to look at the system. They told us to send out a technician two hours. I called ADT and Defender/Retailer showed up. I requested the touch screen panel that I saw online and when they came to install the equipment, they claimed that they don't have it. I called customer service 2 days before expiration date to cancel my contract because I was misled and given false information. Management convinced me to keep the service by offering me free upgrades. I scheduled an appointment to install the cameras and door keypad and doorbell. The technician never showed or called. I called customer service more than 3 times, no one could give me an explanation. I called ADT corporate and Defender to cancel my service once again and they claimed that I signed a three year... I was going to cancel service after 14 years to another company because Xfinity offered a great deal. I was immediately transferred over to account retention when I tried to cancel. I was offered what appeared to be an even better deal to stay. A doorbell camera, 2 free wireless cameras and an upgraded system. I agreed to pay for an additional camera for $179.00. Free installation. OK. BUT Before agreeing I asked if the cameras were able to record for a period of days. I was told I had 1 TB of cloud space to do so. Reasonable, the same as Nest cam, etc.. Worst security system ever. After just a few months they went up on the price for the monthly monitoring. Equipment was antiquated and quit working without notification when someone cut my phone line with a weed eater.

I wonder how much this editor got paid to give this awful review. Just look at BBB and Consumer Affair online. Heck, even look at Yelp and Facebook. You can read actual reviews from actual customers. ADT is dishonest and their product is extremely faulty. I used them for over a year and it was the worst. If you have any issues with their products, the customer service reps will threaten you with their contract. There are other security companies that do not even require contracts and their services are SO much better. I wish had I known before. Defender Security should not be dealt with. They bait and switch and will run your credit without asking. Stay away from this company. Best to deal with ADT corporate level and not this dealer. Corporate is less expensive too.

Buyer BEWARE!!!I hope that anyone who is considering a security system reads all of these ratings. I did nit... shame on me. We have only had this system for a month, and have no complaints with the system. The complaints come from the huge bait and switch, false advertising of the system. The original call get you a sales person who promises you will receive all the equipment you require, at the $99. Installation price, no other fees. Then the installer comes out, drills holes in your wall and then starts telling you how much more it's going to cost you. A huge amount more. So I had to remove items in order to afford the system.
