Backup Plan

The Backup Plan is ideal for generally healthy people who want to know they will be covered in case of a major injury or illness. With this plan, the patient has a choice of three metal levels with different individual deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. Before meeting the deductible, the patient pays the full price for services like primary care, specialist visits, urgent care, labs, and all drugs. After meeting the deductible, all services under the Bronze and Silver levels are $0. Under the Gold level, they are 20% of the total cost.

BACKUP PLAN Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $6,500 $4,500 $1,500
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $6,500 $4,500 $4,500

Simple Plan

The Simple Plan is the signature Oscar plan. There are four coverage levels, including the Secure level, designed for people who only have routine care needs. With the Secure and Bronze levels, most services must be fully paid by the patient before the deductible is met. Under the Silver and Gold levels, most services have copays that range from $10 to $50, depending on the service. Once the deductible is met, all services under every Simple Plan level are 100% covered by the insurance. Additionally, since the deductibles match the OOP maximums, there is no cost-sharing under the Simple Plans.

SIMPLE PLAN Secure Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000

Classic Plan

The Classic Plan follows the structure of traditional health insurance plans, which may be ideal for people with chronic illnesses who need ongoing care. Four metal levels are available, with the Platinum level offering no deductible and copays for every service. With the Bronze level, on the other hand, all services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. After the deductible is met, the patient pays 50% of the total cost for most services and copays for prescription drugs. The Silver and Gold levels are similar in that most services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. Once the patient meets the deductible, copays are charged for the different services, with the Gold level offering the lowest post-deductible copays.

CLASSIC PLAN Bronze Silver Gold Platinum
Individual deductible $4,000 $2,000 $600 $0
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,150 $6,750 $4,000 $2,000

Summary

Oscar sets itself apart from the competition with its wide range of plans. Any customer can find a plan that fits their health care needs—and their budget. Oscar also offers a variety of additional services at no cost, like a concierge that can help customers get the most out of their plan. Services like this really make a difference when it comes to customers deciding between plans. Consumers can receive an instant free quote online by entering a few personal details like zip code, age, and income. Unfortunately, Oscar is only available in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, and California, though they expect to expand to other states in the future.

They were new to Texas and had no coverage anywhere. I was happy to walk away from my accrued deductible to not deal with their inept money grab parading as an insurance company. Stay far away!

I have had to wait over a month to get a prior authorization for a medication I have been taking for 3 years for my Crohn's Disease. As a result of Oscars denials I had to miss a dose of my medication and run the risk of building antibodies due to Oscars thrifty negligence. Now because Oscar refuses to honor the principle of a deductible I have had to wait three months to see a Physical therapist for a problem I have been experiencing for the past year. What's the point of having health insurance and paying nearly $500 a month to be a member of a club that doesn't provide access to healthcare? My insurance card is nothing more than a very expensive wallet paperweight. This is the final... Read More

I wish I'd read these other reviews before we selected Oscar for insurance. This company is terrible! My husband has been told by 2 specialty doctors that he needs an injection - Oscar has denied this request. How can an insurance company deny this when doctors are saying it is necessary? My husband also had difficulty getting a prescription refilled and his supply ran out before he could finally get Oscar to agree to cover this med. The med they finally agreed to was the same drug they denied except that the denied drug was the generic version of the one they approved. The one they eventually approved was far more expensive. Does that make any sense? We haven't even been with Oscar for... Read More

I wish I could give them negative stars. They are stealing your money. None of my doctors accept them or have heard of them in Iowa. Walgreens , CVS does not accept them.

What a joke of an insurance, the "online dr" is a complete joke, they can't really do anything. These companies are on marketplace are here for 1-2 years, they make their money before people realize what a scam this is. There isn't a single doctor that is covered, my physician friend that was listed under this plan as a primary care and he said he never heard of them or had any communication from oscar. Worse of all they sent several emails on "free covid test" i got a covid test and got a $60 bill because oscar didn't pay and i even went to CVS that was listed as covered. When i called them oscar said CVS was using a non-FDA approved covid test. By the time people figure out this is a... Read More

OSCAR is a fraud Insurance Company. I have been insured since 2018. I did not use my insurance due to not needed. When I needed to use it on July 2020 then I found that OSCAR rejecting doctor test request, not paying doctors bill, not paying hospital bill as a result I was responsible for those bills. I have 3 appeals at DMHC.CA.GOV I have got 1st appeal and I am waiting for other 2 appeals.

I signed up for Oscar Health insurance on September 1, 2020, and received a letter from them about a month later letting me know the plan I'm on will no longer be available at the beginning of 2021. They wrote I would be enrolled in a different plan that is $209 MORE PER MONTH without even asking me!!! DId they just decide in the last month to not offer this plan any longer? Is that they plan? If they already knew, then WHY WOULD THEY ALLOW ME TO SIGN UP FOR THE PLAN IN THE FIRST PLACE?!? I now have to go through this entire process again. On a side note: My daughter in college is having female issues, so we told her to contact one of the providers. After calling 20 providers... Read More

I chose this plan specifically because two of my doctors were on the provider list. Now I find out this is a lie. The copay is outrageous and I pay more for prescriptions, plus more a higher monthly premium.

Oscar Health is an evil company owned by Jared Kushner. They ripped me off to the tune of about $20,000 by double-booking me for insurance for two years. Again, they are owned by Jared Kushner, the guy who kicks poor tenants out of buildings. What else do you need to know? They will not be there for you when it counts. They only care about their bottom line. Run, Run, Run from this company. Trust me!!!
