Backup Plan

The Backup Plan is ideal for generally healthy people who want to know they will be covered in case of a major injury or illness. With this plan, the patient has a choice of three metal levels with different individual deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums. Before meeting the deductible, the patient pays the full price for services like primary care, specialist visits, urgent care, labs, and all drugs. After meeting the deductible, all services under the Bronze and Silver levels are $0. Under the Gold level, they are 20% of the total cost.

BACKUP PLAN Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $6,500 $4,500 $1,500
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $6,500 $4,500 $4,500

Simple Plan

The Simple Plan is the signature Oscar plan. There are four coverage levels, including the Secure level, designed for people who only have routine care needs. With the Secure and Bronze levels, most services must be fully paid by the patient before the deductible is met. Under the Silver and Gold levels, most services have copays that range from $10 to $50, depending on the service. Once the deductible is met, all services under every Simple Plan level are 100% covered by the insurance. Additionally, since the deductibles match the OOP maximums, there is no cost-sharing under the Simple Plans.

SIMPLE PLAN Secure Bronze Silver Gold
Individual deductible $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,350 $7,350 $7,350 $4,000

Classic Plan

The Classic Plan follows the structure of traditional health insurance plans, which may be ideal for people with chronic illnesses who need ongoing care. Four metal levels are available, with the Platinum level offering no deductible and copays for every service. With the Bronze level, on the other hand, all services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. After the deductible is met, the patient pays 50% of the total cost for most services and copays for prescription drugs. The Silver and Gold levels are similar in that most services must be paid in full before the deductible is met. Once the patient meets the deductible, copays are charged for the different services, with the Gold level offering the lowest post-deductible copays.

CLASSIC PLAN Bronze Silver Gold Platinum
Individual deductible $4,000 $2,000 $600 $0
Individual Out-of-Pocket Maximum $7,150 $6,750 $4,000 $2,000

Summary

Oscar sets itself apart from the competition with its wide range of plans. Any customer can find a plan that fits their health care needs—and their budget. Oscar also offers a variety of additional services at no cost, like a concierge that can help customers get the most out of their plan. Services like this really make a difference when it comes to customers deciding between plans. Consumers can receive an instant free quote online by entering a few personal details like zip code, age, and income. Unfortunately, Oscar is only available in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Arizona, Michigan, Florida, and California, though they expect to expand to other states in the future.

False advertisement- you CANNOT have 24/7 communication with a Doctor OR Nurse. False advertisement- There is not VIRTUAL visit with a DOCTOR-only mid level health care provider ie Nurse practitioners: I enjoyed my first virtual visit with my NPs (nurse practitioner) herself, I did. She was pleasant, empathetic, understanding, patient and took a very detailed thorough history, it was not rushed. It was everything that followed AFTER the virtual visit that made Oscar Virtual visit a complete NIGHTMARE. A long story & 4 horrible encounters with both Oscar Virtual Care AND Quest. I could never recommend ANYONE to Oscar virtual visit— unless they are going to offer virtual therapy for... Read More

Can't wait to get away from this company. We paid over $1400 a month and when my wife needed a scan based on her past thyroid cancer what do you think they did? Denied the scan. We were told to have our physician do a peer to peer call and they wouldn't talk to him. The physician was as dumbfounded as we were. Never in 20+ years has an insurance company denied her care. Not once. Until now. Unfortunately, she had to have injections in order to do the scan and after they denied the scan she had already had the injection. 2 of them. They paid a small amount for one of them and denied the other. We just got a bill to pay for the injection they denied along with the scan for $3800.... Read More

I have had a very bad experience with Oscar Insurance at the end; the experience was great with my dad. For almost 3 years I paid my dad's insurance form my bank account. On June 7th 2021 my dad passed after a long fight with cancer. Oscar drafted the money as usual on the 1st of that month and you will think that would be the last draft, well no, still until today I keep going back and forth for them to stop the draft. I have called the customer service number, I have talked to people, now I am trying to get my bank to stop the draft on their side since Oscar won't stop collecting money. The irony is that they should know that my dad is not living anymore since they pay for all the... Read More

Stay away! Customer service is terrible, they just read off a script and the last time I needed help the script was to break the law and not pay for COVID tests despite telling me multiple times before the testing that I would pay $0. Multiple doctors I have gone to have dropped them and the emergency care clinic I prefer and pharmacy I went to for years dropped them and all for the same reason, really bad service and difficult to work with. I filed a complaint to Texas Department of Insurance because things are so bad. They also referred me to a doctor that took advantage of the visit and incorrectly billed me so they could make more money.

I am so surprised at the other reviews. My family has been with OSCAR since Jan 1, 2020 and our experience has been incredible. I had a heart attack in 2020 and was more afraid of the fight over medical bills than I was of dying. I waited for the bill from the hospital and when the first bill arrived Oscar had paid its full balance to the hospital 16 days after I left the hospital. OSCAR assigned a Nurse and a single employee to me and I was told to send them every single bill I got so they could make sure I actually owed the money. Several doctors tried to balance bill me and Oscar went after them and got those charges wiped away. We received bills with things on them that Oscar... Read More

I have Oscar through the Marketplace. I am hoping to stay healthy until Nov. when I can dump them. Cannot even get basic routine care as they deny my primary care physician ( who take their insurance but they deny the claims on a bogus address problem) They offer no other viable options in my area. I am afraid to go and get my colonoscopy because I do not trust the coverage AT ALL.

Worst care provider who only cares about their own pocket and bottom line, rejects diagnostic on critical care even when their own doctors recommend it. Never been so disappointed with a health care provider. Don't waist your money, they will reject treatment when you do need it.

Very disappointed in Oscar. I would not recommend them. They have referred me twice to a PT that is out of network and now I am being billed for using those out of network PT's that they recommenced. Horrible customer service. I can not find a in-network PT so I am stuck paying out of pocket.

They were new to Texas and had no coverage anywhere. I was happy to walk away from my accrued deductible to not deal with their inept money grab parading as an insurance company. Stay far away! This is actually the review of zekedumke4, but why waste an perfectly good review! THE WORST COMPANY EVER. Not one of the dozen doctors I called from their in-network list had even heard of Oscar, let alone was agreeable to their in-network designation. I too will happily walk away from the money I spent to get away from them.
