Manhattan Life is an insurance company based in Houston, Texas. It provides a variety of less-common types of insurance, including dental, vision and hearing coverage, cancer coverage, and accident insurance. It also offers life insurance, annuities, and Medicare supplement policies. The company has been in business since 1850.

Coverage

Manhattan Life's policies include dental, vision, and hearing insurance coverage combined, which is useful if you're interested in more than one of these options and don't want to purchase two separate policies. Its website doesn't go into a lot of detail about what's covered, but it does say preventive services, like semi-annual dental exams, cleanings and x-rays as covered as are basic services, like fillings and extractions, other than full-mouth dental work. This policy doesn't appear to cover more advanced treatments, like root canals or orthodontia, but if you are just interested in a basic dental insurance policy to cover the essentials, this should be all you need.

You're free to choose your own dentist, so there's no need to worry about networks and incurring extra charges if you visit a dentist outside of your insurer's network. Manhattan Life does have a partnership with the Careington Network, and if you choose a dentist that's part of this group, you'll get extra discounts, so this is something to bear in mind.

Benefit Limits

You can choose whether you'd like a $1,000 or a $1,500 annual policy benefit. This is pretty normal for most dental insurance providers, and the fact that there's two options to choose from makes it easy to purchase the coverage you want without paying for more than you need. If you're unsure how much coverage you need, you can ask your Manhattan Life representative when they reach out to discuss your policy with you. They can help you estimate how much you'll spend each year and show you which option will best fit into your budget.

Availability

Manhattan Life's dental, vision and hearing insurance policies are available to individuals between the ages of 18 and 85, and family rates are available for families with up to three children. These policies are guaranteed renewable for life, so you don't ever have to worry about being denied coverage, even if you use your insurance often.

The company's website doesn't say anything about waiting periods, though these are common with dental insurance policies from other providers. Read through your policy carefully and ask your Manhattan Life representative any questions you have about what's covered and whether there's any waiting periods before you use your insurance so you don't encounter any unexpected surprises.

Pricing

Your Manhattan Life dental, vision and hearing insurance policy's cost depends on several factors, including where you live and how much coverage you want. Manhattan Life doesn't go into detail about policy costs online, nor does it offer an online quote tool so you can see how much it will cost you. So you'll have to fill out its online form and wait for a Manhattan Life representative to contact you with more information or reach out to the company directly by phone to see how much the policy will cost you.

No matter which coverage option you choose, you'll only have a $100 deductible, which is pretty reasonable compared to many other dental insurance policies.

I was told by my agent who set me up with this policy that this dental plan has a $3,000 per year limit with no waiting periods and no deductible. Why does this information differ from what is stated on your www.consumersadvocate.org website?

I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have had two policies wirh Manhattan Life and needed a procedure done. Tried to get a hold of my agent would not return my call. Then called the corporate office to find out they canceled my policy due to lack of employment. I have been working for the same company for 7 years. I would rate them a -1

This company is a complete rip off and I proved it building a worse case scenario spreadsheet. I don't know how I got roped into this policy... after $400 in premiums, I was papered to death to collect $100 in benefits, and found even when I shopped at Costco they say the cost is above what's allowed. You have to fill out multiple forms with your doctor, go through reviews, have a deductible of $100/year, and a wait period of 6 months to claim anything. I did a spreadsheet. The yearly limit to benefits means you would have to claim the full amount for each part of the plan (dental, vision, hearing) each year and get full benefits for over 7 years to even break even. If you could... Read More
