Although most widely known for its identity theft solutions, LifeLock also has a strong credit reporting component in all of its plans. Founded in 2005 and based in Tempe, Arizona, LifeLock boasts more than 4.4 million members worldwide. The company uses cutting edge technology to monitor a wide range of personal data to detect the possibility of identity theft and alert their customers.

Monitoring and Extra Features

Overall Rating: 3.7 / 5 (Very good)

LifeLock is a fantastic identity theft protection product that offers some standard credit monitoring features. The company's patented LifeLock Identity Alert® System is second to none in the industry. So those using LifeLock for credit monitoring will get the benefit of fast and accurate alerts to text, phone, email, and mobile app should there be changes to their credit report. However, since the focus is on identity theft, LifeLock does not have the credit analysis features common to most credit reporting services, even the free ones. Also, even with LifeLock's most expensive plan, credit reports and scores are only delivered annually.

Credit Score & Reports

Report Details and Frequency - 4 / 5

LifeLock provides three bureau credit monitoring only with its most expensive plan, Ultimate Plus. All other plans only monitor Equifax. Similarly, credit reports and scores are only compiled for all three bureaus with Ultimate Plus. All LifeLock plans only provide credit reports and credit scored on an annual basis. This is quite infrequent when compared to other, even free services. But as LifeLock's emphasis is more on identity theft protection this is understandable. Finally, LifeLock credit scores are based on the VantageScore model. As mentioned in other reviews, although VantageScore is gaming acceptance, the majority of financial institutions will use the official FICO score.

Monitoring & Tools

Credit Bureau & Credit Scores - 3.5 / 5

As LifeLock's emphasis is on identity theft, its credit analysis tools are not as robust as they could be. However, the company's patented LifeLock Identity Alert® system will quickly monitor you of all key changes to your credit report depending on which plan you have selected. When it comes to identity theft features, LifeLock is unparalleled. In addition to all the key features here LifeLock also alerts you if your personal info is on the Dark Web; if there is any fake information connected to your identity; if there are withdrawals, transfers and large purchases from your credit, checking and savings accounts; if new bank accounts have been opened in your name, etc. Additionally, LifeLock's plans offer considerable insurance limits that cover everything you might need to establish a stolen identity, including stolen funds reimbursement, personal expense compensation, and coverage for lawyers and other experts.

LifeLock Plans & Pricing

Plans and Pricing - 4 / 5

LifeLock does not have a free plan or free trial. The company provides sufficient credit monitoring features, but is more designed for people who are willing to pay for varying levels of identity protection. For example, all plans come with up to $1 million in coverage for hiring lawyers and experts. If you are looking for a straight up, credit monitoring and reporting product, it makes a lot more sense to go with one of the free services we feature. They will give you your score and report more frequently, and allow you access to tools to understand your credit and plan for the future.

LifeLock Reputation & Support

Monitoring and Extra Features - 3.5 / 5

LifeLock has a B- with the BBB. Most of the negative reviews across the internet seem to focus around problems trying to cancel. The company, however, has endeavored to address each customer personally to resolve the issue. In recent years LifeLock was also the subject of a government action concerning deceptive advertising which was ultimately resolved without the company admitting fault. It is important to stress that at no time did LifeLock compromise the personal information of its customers.

Awful! Customer service is atrocious. Website never is helpful. They don’t do what they say they will. Getting my spouse onto my “family” account has been impossible. Save your money.
