Coverage - 4.6 / 5

Coverage Fine Print

USAA offers Accident Forgiveness, an option that policyholders can purchase which affirms that their premium won't go up after one at-fault accident.
Accident Forgiveness may require an additional premium and is not available in CT, DE, NC, CA, and NY. Not applicable to past accidents. Can only be applied to one accident at a time per policy. Accident Forgiveness is not a promise to continue coverage and the policy continues to be subject to underwriting guidelines.

Oh they're great until you need them. I have paid USAA premiums for 25+ yrs and I tapped someone- not one scratch on either vehicle (proof, pics & police), Months later she files a claim for dmgs & injury AFTER they "fixed" her vehicle and NO med proof was provided- that's illegal (USAA is required and entitled to see the vehicle ) yet they paid the claim and put it on me! Now that I had a legit accident they won't help me repair my vehicle. How much premium did I pay in 25 yrs? Don't fool yourselves by thinking they care because they won't even do what you pay them to, even if it's at minimal cost to them. Don't honor this "military" business when they will never honor you. You sacrificed... Read More

July 15, 2018 I am making a formal complaint about a claim I have with USAA Auto Insurance Company. Background On May 23, 2018 , my car (2008 Ford Mustang), was struck in Jacksonville, FL. The driver of the other vehicle was charged with running a red light and was insured by USAA. No charges were made against me. USAA was notified by both parties on that day and USAA reported to that they would handle the claim and issued a claim number. Since that phone call, I tried contacting USAA several times and left several messages, and they did not returned my calls. Neither did they send a claim adjuster to review the damages nor make an offer to... Read More

20 years with USAA, my daughter has an accident, she made a legal u-turn, an unlicensed driver in truck enters the intersection after her, he was going to fast crossed two lanes of traffic and cut in front of my daughter. She hit him. My daughter had me on speaker, the cop says he is unlicensed and has had numerous violations. She asked my daughter if it was clear when she made u-turn. My daughter said it was clear and he cut across two lanes of traffic, had he been going slower he could have successfully made a right turn. Cop comes back says he does not know why he crossed two lanes, how fast he was going, but she is not ticketing him because she would have to arrest him and his... Read More

Been a customer for over 42 years. No prior claims. A year ago my Porsche was damaged by another driver and they were judged to be 100% at fault. USAA took over 80 days to finalize my repair claim (my car was repaired in less than 20 days). They shorted my repair claim by $5,200 (I had to pay that amount out of my pocket) stating the Porsche Factory Certified repair shop charged more than what they considered to be the "local market labor charge". USAA would also not discuss or expain how they arrived at a maximum market labor rate. In other words, if you have a speciality car like a Porsche, you will want it repaired by a Factory Certified Repair shop. USAA will want to pay your... Read More

I have been with USAA insurance all my life. I have never had a problem in the past. However, this recent incident I had of having a coyote run out in front of me while I was going 55 to 60 mph is not something they want to fully cover. They do not believe that the coyote could have done that much damage to my fender. They are trying to get me to now file a separate claim for part of the fender and pay another deductible. It was all the same incident and should be covered under the same deductible as one incident. I am very disappointed with the help I have gotten and the information being inconsistent within agents. I was put on hold for 45 minutes at one point. Some agents do not write... Read More

USAA client for over 30 years. Generally satisfied even though lately I was unable to talk anyone about a recent problem other than the call center person who was unable to help or put me in touch with someone who could. I tried the to submit a comment on the website and the comment dialogue box would not even open. With a clean driving record and no violations for over ten years, I received a speeding ticket while traveling out of my home state on a trip. The ticket was settled with a payment of $39.00, which I sent in when returning home. USAA is now charging me $112.00 per year for 3 years with no possible appeal or remedy for years of loyalty. Communication is difficult now and... Read More

USAA lost my trust and my business when I found out they don't care about Veterans, but that it's only about the money. I have a son that made a bad decision and has a felony charge, and because we allow him to live with us, USAA contacted me and dropped both my home and auto insurance because he is living in my home. He served his time, and I feel that USAA is trying to be their own judge and not only charging him, but me as a Veteran of 20 years (I still work on a military installation supporting our troops) because I allow him to live with me. Be very weary of doing business with USAA. I called yesterday to discuss the issue, and after 15 minutes on hold while they attempted to... Read More

USAA just settled an automobile insurance claim I made, so while the experience is fresh in my mind, I thought I would respond to some of the negative reviews here. The claim was settled in one week, and I was kept up to date by the adjuster every single day. All of my questions over the phone and online were answered promptly. Initially it was not clear whether the other driver was insured. USAA was all over that, in part because the amount of my deductible was at stake. I took my car to the body shop USAA recommended, and the shop did a great job in a reasonable amount of time. An assistant manager there told me they had been certified by USAA, and that the company consistently paid... Read More

USAA has hid two post on facebook. I am a 37 year member. I have always carried $500,000 uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage plus $10,000 medical. In 37 years I had never filed a medical claim. I was rear ended while stopped. I suffered knee, neck, and back injuries. I documented everything and tried to work with USAA for 3 months to get treatment. I had to hire a lawyer and we successfully settled with USAA. If you are injured, USAA will not preauthorize any treatment. It is in the policy. You have to get the treatment and then submit the bills. Most medical providers will require you to pay up front with out a preauthorization. This means you have to pay several... Read More

Don’t bother! Last night I slid off my driveway due to rain. My truck got stuck. It’s on a hill and I couldn’t get traction. I called for towing today. Found out that since it’s more than 15 feet off the pavement, it’s no longer covered under towing but is now booked as a collision. What BS! I didn’t hit anything, no damage to my truck, I just can’t get traction due to days of rain! I am p*ssed. (BTW, you cannot use the word p*ssed or your post won’t be published) I have been a USAA member doe nearly 30 years. Too many policy changes and just not worth it anymore. They no longer care about the members.

I am submitting a complaint to the insurance commissioner over the ridiculously inept handling of my son's claim against this company's insured - a 91 y.o. who admitted taking his eyes off the road and rear ended my son at a red light. My son's car was totaled - no rental was offered - in fact the original rep he spoke to said "this was no ones fault - it was an accident." Many NJ lawyers would be happy to dispute that on a contingency basis. All my son wanted was a timely assessment and conclusion - which included paying off the loan and getting the remaining funds towards a new car. The second rep was more helpful, offered the rental, and after arranging for us to FedEx necessary... Read More

I have been a loyal USAA customer for over 20 years. I use them for all my insurance and banking needs. My wife had a bad string of luck the past 2 years with 4 accidents. Even though the prior 20 years saw almost no claims, they dropped me effective this month, October 2018. I'm a disabled vet and father of 4 with a single income family. Despite all the years of my loyalty and paying all my premiums in full and on time, the company that claims to serve those who served abandoned me in my time of need because we dared to use the insurance we paid for all this time. I'm disgusted by them and the fact they made a ton of money off me but couldn't stand by me when we had a rough patch. I even... Read More

I've been a usaa customer for about 18 years. They were great when we first started with them. Today, I just can't trust them anymore. They either have the most incompetent people working for them, or they are actively trying to screw up policies. I think they just try to tack on money and hope you don't notice. Today will be the last day I'm a customer with them. I'd rather pay more for good service.

We've had USAA for fifty (yes, FIFTY!) years now and wouldn't even consider changing to another company. Along the way we've had a few claims (both auto and homeowner's), and in addition to the claims being handled fairly, quickly, and efficiently, we've never experienced any significant rate changes as a result. Speaking of rates, when comparing you'll definitely want to consider the fact that USAA offers an annual "rebate"; the amount of which is based on a formula of how much you paid in premiums, and their loss experience. Part of this rebate is awarded in cash (or credit to your current premium), and part is deposited in a "Subscriber Savings Account" with the company (and the... Read More

This company is extraordinary at collecting premiums but are a Wolf in Sheep's clothing. In a world that is so negative I have personally only written one negative review. I have had more than one negative experience but try to focus on the positive side of things and be a counter balance. But I hope my review below will shed light on the process and educate people that could possibly go through a similar experience. USAA waves the flag that they serve those who served. This is the most fraudulent marketing ploy ever and should be vetted by someone. I have been insured as a member of USAA for than 9 years and in that time I had never filed a claim. Thus my experience has been... Read More

The worst insurance ever! We have paid 6-month premiums, (Never late) for 13 yrs! 1 Claim a cracked window! When S. Mattson of Utah ran a 4-way stop at 55 mph and totaled my car! I had the audacity to think I had the best insurance! Was I wrong! USSA refused to pay for the pain medicine the Dr ordered! I had to beg them to pay the less then $20.00 measly Dollars after a yr they finally paid it! They refuse to pay a $334.00 Dollar Dr Bill, For a Dr my Dr had referred me to Because my leg was not healing! My big mistake was letting USSA handle my claim! I mistakenly thought I had the best insurance, And they would take care of me! I should have went directly to Sheri’s insurance and let them... Read More

I have been a client of USAA for 46 years. I have had multiple automobile claims and homeowner insurance claims. Each incident has been handled quickly and has left me very satisfied with their attitude and service. I was speaking to the owner of a collision repair shop and explaining what I wanted done on the vehicle. He stopped me and said, "That is up to the insurance company." When I told him that I had USAA, he laughed and said there would be no problem. "They will do whatever you want." It was an exaggeration but very close to the truth. The insurance is the only insurance that has a "Subscriber's Savings Account" that I am aware of in the industry. Over the last 10 years, a... Read More

USAA IS A JOKE! If you are hit or involved in an accident with a member of USAA, be ready to be disappointed!! Low total loss amount for my car. More than 6 weeks since claim submitted and all contact has been initiated by me. Good luck trying to get someone to answer your call or return a call. This has got to be one of the worst Auto Insurance companies ever, stay away! Followed all their protocol and were assigned a claim number. After numerous calls to the person handling our claim we are still getting nowhere, the "we are still investigating" line. BULLSH*T!

I am a retired Naval Officer, and have had car insurance with USAA for over 44 years. In their early years the customer service was professional and efficient, now, since their steady expansion into other than insurance, the driving force of USAA is sales, profit, and minimal person to person customer service. To get a human being to discuss any aspect of my policy requires a minimum of 2 minutes of automated responses, followed by another 3 minutes of repeating the same info to a person to 'verify' my identity. These customer service reps are not allowed to do other than dumbly follow some preset dialog to 'help' me, and do not listen to what their customers tell them. I ask to speak... Read More

I do not appreciate how I was talked to during my claim and specifically the call during which the decision was made to deny my claim. The person who first talked to me and took my incoming claim was awesome, patient and very empathetic. The second person who took my claim was not personal at all. I understand that a claims adjuster is not in customer service but there should be a certain level of professionalism at all times while dealing with a member. I firstly felt like I was being interrogated.. I could understand if I had a claim in my first policy term but I have been a member of USAA for 12 years. Secondly there was no empathy while speaking about my claim, it was all just... Read More
