With outstanding financial stability and over 100 years of experience in the industry, Liberty Mutual has secured its position as a global force in the auto insurance market. The company provides policyholders with an unrivaled selection of discounts and excellent benefits, making up for their higher-end premiums. Although their coverages are not as inclusive as those offered by other leading insurers, their quickly expedited claims processing gives them a leg up on the competition.

Coverage - 4 / 5

Liberty Mutual has some of the most thorough plans in the auto insurance market, offering standard and comprehensive coverages, along with additional benefits such as new and better car replacement options, accident forgiveness, guaranteed repair, and even teacher's insurance. They do, however, fail to provide certain basic protections like uninsured and underinsured motorist coverages, or towing and labor costs.

New Car Replacement - Provides customers with funds to purchase a new car if theirs is totaled. Accident Forgiveness - Premiums won't go up due to a policyholder's first accident as long as they have been accident and violation free for five years. Better Car Replacement - If their car is totaled, policyholders can receive money for the purchase of a vehicle that is one year newer and has 15,000 fewer miles than their own. Deductible fund - Lowers the amount of the collision deductible and the money the policyholder must pay out-of-pocket in the event of a claim. The company will contribute an initial 100 dollars into the account to get it started. Guaranteed Repair - When customers choose to have their vehicles fixed at a Guaranteed Repair Network facility, the company will ensure the repairs for as long as the policyholder owns the car. Liberty Mutual offers the most common auto insurance discounts, such as multiple vehicle, safe driver, vehicle safety, student, and bundled policy discounts, as well as additional savings opportunities for new graduates, retirees, teen drivers, and returning clients. This broad range of discounts partly compensates for their higher-than-average rates, which can range between $130 and $370. However, Liberty Mutual does set itself apart from other big players in the industry by offering a pay-by-the-mile car insurance option, which bases premiums on clients' base and per-mile rates.

My experience with liberty Mutual was very poor and unprofessional. Especially the claim rep Julie Slike she was very messy and unprofessional . Her client hit my car and she told me my case was closed because her client said it was my fault and she never got the police report to confirm this she just went off of what the client said and closed the cased and she didn't even have enough respect to call me and tell me anything she just texted my phone saying it was my fault . I've been following up with her for days and it is very hard to get in contact with her i left her many voicemails. When i finally got a hold of her i asked how is the case closed if she still don't got the police... Read More

They keep raising my prices even though I have had no claims since I have been with them! State Farm gave me even more coverage on my vehicles and home and my house insurance they quoted me was $1000 a year lower and my vehicles was $100 a month cheaper. I called and told them this because I really didn’t want to switch companies but they didn’t even care that they were going to lose a customer. It’s nearly impossible to even get a live person on the phone now with Liberty. They want you to do all the work yourself on their mobile app or online. So I’m not sure why their prices keep going up… it’s definitely not due to hiring more live representatives! If I could give a lower score than 1... Read More

I guess all insurance companies are great if you never ever have to file a claim! Liberty Mutual, oops! I mean Safeco is the absolute worst insurance company on the planet! Stop throwing your policy premium payments into this Massive Black Hole! Cut your losses and get out! Before it’s too late!

The claim services are horrible. I was not able to get hold with anyone about the claims for more than 2 days. I tried calling the service line, the claim center and the agent direct line. I tried the emails and the live chat but not able to talk to anyone as well. I asked for assistant from Progressive and they transferred me to the claim department but it was on hold for 1 hour and still no remaining on the line without anyone answering it. I would not recommend using Liberty Mutual.

Horrible co , switched my 2 motorcycles to Geico ( less that half the price with better coverage ) and continued to have 5 vehicles insured . They took the 5 vehicles OFF THE POLICY & kept the 2 bikes on !! We were driving for a week w/o insurance !! Just switched the vehicles to Geico & we are now being charged this month for the 5 vehicles that are not even on a LB policy due to automatic payment . Had a" customer service " rep hang up on me today . Do yourself a favor and switch to Geico or ANYBODY other than LB.

I got a very good quote for my auto and renters insurance so I went with Liberty Mutual, I canceled Geico. I waited for my policy to come in the mail, I called to request a hard copy again and I was told once again it would be in the mail. I never received one to this day I never got a hard copy of the auto or the renter's. I sold my vehicle and bought another car, I went on Liberty's site and did a change of vehicle and I removed the auto pay, it makes me nervous to have a.p. because I like to pay my bills myself, this was over a month ago. I had to request a new ID card twice before I got it. I have not been happy with their service so I went back to Geico and I canceled my policy... Read More

Like all companies in the insurance business, you must check all company's renewal premium amounts before renewing. I had trouble with Allstate bumping up premiums for no reason. So, I bounced around to different companies. We went with Liberty in 2019 for auto. We have a motorcycle and I was quoted a premium that was about 500% higher for the same coverage I was quoted from progressive. So, I ended up buying my motorcycle coverage from Progressive. Liberty has been doing the same as nearly all insurance companies do but not too badly on our auto policy on our second annual renewal. We had homeowners insurance with Liberty from January 2010 with very reasonable premiums until sometime... Read More

I have had Liberty Mutual for many years. I have had zero claims, no speeding tickets or any kind of moving violation. I even went paperless and had the 90 day big brother thingy on two my cars to prove I'm a safe driver and get all discounts I possibly could. Today I had enough. I discovered my rates went up another $100 recently due to a conviction of "improper display of stickers" on my truck back in 10/20/18 is when it happened and it didn't get convicted of them until 5/13/19. Now I had gone in to the court & showed proof it was all fixed and have sent an email to them over this. This is wrong even on their part. My point in giving a one star for this company is since I can... Read More

I highly against using Liberty Mutual #badcustomerservice. My truck got stolen called into the call center to ask if I should keep paying and the agent told me to cancel the policy and when and/if the truck is recovered to reinstate the policy and the policy would cost the same! Found my truck call to reinstate the policy and as you may guess, they up the payments monthly by $53.00. I elected not to take the policy and went with another insurance company. They now have sent me to collections lol... I have all the paperwork to back me up but the point is .... why are Liberty such crooks?,, smh...

Highly advise against using this company. I am attempting to get a dental claim paid under medical on a policy taken over from another company by Liberty. I have been attempting for several days to get help, have been given nothing but the run around, transferred around on the phone, and have actually had my calls "dumped" when transferred to a bogus line. I am now working on filing a complaint with them with official agencies.

I've been stranded in Louisiana, I'm from Michigan, since 1/11, and they still have not had my car picked up for assessment. It's now end of business day 1/16. I had to be very assertive to get any assistance. Now they are responding and getting what I hope to be accurate information.

I decided to look into switching from my present carrier to someone else since I had been with them for over three years and wanted to see what rates I could find. Applied to Liberty Mutual on line and filled out the info for Auto and home ins to replace the one I now had. Got a quote from them for both Auto and Home and did some tweeting to get what I wanted and they came back with a price of $281 per month and I could get a discount if I paid for 6 months or 12 at one time. I accepted their offer and had them take the funds out of my checking account for the 6 months. They said there might be a slight change in the finial amount. Two days later I get an email saying that my insurance had... Read More

I recently switch to liberty mutual for both home and auto. Overall the rates were better than what I had and I'm not unhappy with the company. However, I did feel the quoting and sales process was somewhat deceptive. Over the course of our conversation, at 4 different points I was given what was presented as a "quote", and asked for verbal confirmation to continue with the purchase. Each time was followed by "a couple more questions". And each time the rate went up. I answered all questions exactly the same as I had for the online quote, yet my final rates were several hundred dollars higher than the initial quote. I'm sure these practices are not uncommon in this competitive market, but... Read More

Beware! There are terrible telephone reps at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for roadside assistance. Unprofessional and a disgrace. They don't understand that when you call roadside assistance, it's because your car broke down and you need help. I called and provided all of the information requested and the telephone rep (girl) that I spoke with kept getting my policy number wrong, my name wrong, my phone number wrong, my location wrong, and the address wrong where I wanted the vehicle to be towed to. While I was repeatedly correcting her, she thought it was funny. I really believe that she was enjoying taunting me. I was very upset about not only the vehicle breaking down, but I also... LM offers free roadside assistance. Today is August 12, 2019 and its around 100 degrees here in Atlanta. I am literally on one of the busiest streets in Sandy Springs, just north of Atlanta, but withing the 285 Perimeter. Easy access to everything. I have been waiting since 3:00 PM for a tow truck. Its now 6:00. Call a few minutes ago they said it may be another 40 mins. If I was out in the boonies or Alaska, I get it. Not in the center of town. Been a customer for almost 17 years. I am shopping around now. I have had it.

Absolute hell. Worst experience I've ever had with any company in my life. Customer service agents "at the front of the house" act nice/polite enough even told me a nice story of how everything should be covered but when I found out nothing would be covered from the actual claims agent who handles what will and won't be covered, I was naturally upset as I had to end up losing my place of residence from the financial hit. Also, since then, every agent I encountered was quick to being incredibly condescending and emotionally malicious (I think they possibly flagged my account with a note other agents can see or something). Hopefully, it's over now as I called in to cancel my policy with... Read More

I have been a Liberty Mutual client for nearly 10 years. I have auto, house and an umbrella policy with them. There coverages are excellent and comprehensive, with the second paragraph of the above coverage description being 100% inaccurate. I have always had both uninsured and underinsured as well as towing coverage - on both of my cars. the real benfit of Liberty is their claim experience. Regrettably,I have had to submit several auto claim, both liability and collision. In every case the claim was handled rapidly and efficiently and all repair costs, except my deductible, were immediately fully paid with no balking or haggling. The claims experience was actually enjoyable.... Read More

Trash company. They went from charging $120 a month to to $350 a month in 6 months. This is the kind of company that will start you off with a low rate and then bump it up. I just paid that fist month and switch to Geico. DON'T USE THEM !! SCAMMERS !!

I am very unhappy with this company! They are very misleading in their sales explanation as to how the Right Track program works. You do not get a discount at the end of the Right Track trial but rather an increase as very few obtain the percentages they give you. They tell you that once you have completed the trial you will qualify for a discount of anywhere from 5%- 30% discount which is untrue. When I called to inquire as to why I did not see a discount in my monthly premium once the trial was completed I was told that they had quoted me a premium showing a 10% discount (which the rep did not explain) and that at the end of the trial I only qualified for 7% so my premium increased by 3%.

The last claim we filed with them they withheld half the payment until car was fixed. They also increased our homeowners insurance 200%.....yes 200%...after EIGHT years of business (I think due to the California fires)...no other reason given than increased business costs! Stay far away!!

Liberty Mutual did a classic “bait and switch” on us. They had us buy into a policy that was $2800/yr, then, after a year with a [still] perfect driving record and no late payments, upon renewal, our policy jumped to about $3,800. Upon signing up, we were told that our old provider had such high premiums due to all the unsafe drivers in our area, and that Liberty Mutual wouldn’t do that as our driving record was perfect. Now, this is one of the reasons I’m given as to why the premiums are so high with Liberty Mutual, and their main explanation for the increase, is that unbeknownst to us, we were given a discount that we did not qualify for, last year. We were not told that we were given... Read More

No accidents......ever, 752 credit rating, 51 years old, 2015 vehicle. My insurance rate from from 2018 to 2019 jumped 16%. Their explanation? "Well, your zip code carries high accident rates and vehicle thefts". I was targeted, profiled, then held accountable for everyone in my zip code.

We changed from USAA to Liberty in March 2018. We have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma and a 2010 Toyota Yaris. We also decided to bundle our home owners insurance with them as well. Our first year renewal is coming up and I am searching for another company. Please don't let Liberty's snappy TV ads fool you! Their customer service is horrible!! The coverage cost on our 9 year old Yaris is almost as high as our 4 year old Tacoma. Liberty's reason " It's old and you won't be able to get parts for it." . This was the most cockamamie excuse that I have ever heard. When we were setting our coverage up, they would not allow us to select the deductibles that we wanted. Instead they chose a $1,500.00...
