Overall Rating: 4.3 / 5 (Excellent)

LifeShield short-term health insurance plans offer consumers affordability and flexibility. The company operates in 30 states, including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, among others. LifeShield offers two short-term health plans to choose from: Lifeshield Advantage and LifeShield Flex. Both plans offer coverage for preventive/wellness care, diagnostics services, inpatient hospital services, ER, urgent care facility, and ambulance services. Additionally, the company offers limited coverage for mental health care, substance abuse, and physical, occupational, and speech coverage, which is great, since many short-term insurance providers don’t offer coverage for these.

Like most short-term health plans, LifeShield’s plans don’t cover maternity or newborn care. However, unlike other providers, LifeShield doesn’t provide any coverage when it comes to outpatient laboratory services or x-rays. Additionally, the company doesn’t have an online member portal for account management or a mobile app. Customer support is provided via email or over the phone. That being said, although LifeShield offers affordable short-term plans, with flexible terms to choose from, its plans are much more limited than those offered by other providers reviewed by us, so we encourage consumers to do some research before purchasing.

Worst company on the planet. They will put you on a plan. Then a month later call you and tell you they dropped your coverage because the state you live in doesn’t offer that plan. My question to them was then why did you put me on that plan in the first place? The response I got was you are not covered and won’t be able to get on a new plan for 15 days. I have had lifeshield for 2 years and my coverage has lapsed twice because of them.

Don't waste your money with this company, they wont cover anything, fought with them for over a year trying to get them to cover my medical bills to no avail. I went to the doctors with in 6 days of receiving their "benefits" and they make you pay for the coverage but don't actually give you any for a week, and god forbid your diagnosed with something in those 6 days because then they will call it a pre-existing condition and wont cover anything! 1 star is far too much for such a worthless company! not prompt about any payments, the customer support is some of the worst I've ever encountered. I was transferred between this company 6 times before I finally found someone intelligent enough... Read More

I had to go to the ER and receive stitches as a result of a chainsaw accident. Life shield didn’t pay a penny of my hospital bills which I am still receiving. When I called them to ask about it I was shuffled from operator to operator for 35 minutes. DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE

Lifeshield Health Insurance is ... no so good. After signing up for their service through the Obamacare website and having their service for 2 years I used their service one time and they denied me service based on pre-existing conditions. This is illegal in the United States, so they claim they are not technically health insurance. This is inconsistent with what they told me when I signed up. So I called them to ask why. After leaving me on hold and bouncing me around for a while they eventually dropped my call. This happened multiple times. Finally they told me they had sent me a letter in the mail requesting more information about my service. I filled this out sent it back. I... Read More
