Overall Rating: 4.3 / 5 (Excellent)

LifeShield short-term health insurance plans offer consumers affordability and flexibility. The company operates in 30 states, including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, among others. LifeShield offers two short-term health plans to choose from: Lifeshield Advantage and LifeShield Flex. Both plans offer coverage for preventive/wellness care, diagnostics services, inpatient hospital services, ER, urgent care facility, and ambulance services. Additionally, the company offers limited coverage for mental health care, substance abuse, and physical, occupational, and speech coverage, which is great, since many short-term insurance providers don’t offer coverage for these.

Like most short-term health plans, LifeShield’s plans don’t cover maternity or newborn care. However, unlike other providers, LifeShield doesn’t provide any coverage when it comes to outpatient laboratory services or x-rays. Additionally, the company doesn’t have an online member portal for account management or a mobile app. Customer support is provided via email or over the phone. That being said, although LifeShield offers affordable short-term plans, with flexible terms to choose from, its plans are much more limited than those offered by other providers reviewed by us, so we encourage consumers to do some research before purchasing.

As near as I can tell, there is absolutely NO BENEFIT to having insurance coverage from this so called provider! I made the mistake of signing up for their insurance for the past 7 months, just so I have some type of coverage while in transition inbetween jobs. They completely refuse to pay for ANYTHING! Additionally, unlike coverage I've had from other carriers, there is not even a Discount for Any of the services that I receive from my Doctors visits that I'm responsible for! I had a funny feeling about this company from day one, when the insurance agent actually gave me a "gmail" email address to contact her by! What does that tell you about this company? Looking back, I could have gone... Read More

Do yourself a favor if you do not have health insurance through your workplace stay away from these con artists and the agents who sell this policy. Went to two general doctors office visits ( which I am allowed 3 yearly) and on the first visit I was prescribe a medication which I have been taken for years. This scam artist insurance refused to pay the claim because of an "existing condition".. 2nd visit I went with not EVEN BEING PRESCRIBED ANYTHING and guess what, did not pay the claim even though I paid the 30 dollar copay each visit. Calling their so called customer service department was an absolute ordeal.

My wife had an auto accident and broke her neck. After 8 months, they have paid almost none of the bills. Not for the X rays, not for the ambulance, not for most of the doctors. Instead, they have FOUR times asked for the police report which was given each time, have asked each time for a list of her doctors for 60 months, and denied the claims four times as "we need to determine if this is a pre-existing condition. Please provide the following ..." where they then ask for the same things once again. they paid part of the hospital, which is great, but their not paying anyone else sucks! They also have denied my son's getting treated for the flu as they needed to verify if it is... Read More

This company is truly a scam. They purposefully confuse by not responding for months to claims, pretending they never got your records from doctors who saw you in the past, or not enough info from your current visits..... sending you Explanations of Benefits, showing no "COMMENT CODES" which should be there to explain why they have turned down the claim. In fact, I asked one agent why there were no codes to explain denial and she said, "We are in the process of changing some things." How is this my problem? No transparency. So, over and over, you have to contact your doctors of the past, to beg them to send them your past records again. When you call to find out why claims were denied,... Read More

I currently have several unresolved claims because lifeshield will not pay up. I just got out of surgery and now have to deal with this. I cant believe they would do this to someone obviously going through enough. I haven't had a late payment or anything and was given preapproval prior to my surgery. I am reporting them to any and all agencies I can find and will be canceling my policy as soon as this is resolved. - angry customer- Jared Dunn

Do not utilize this insurance. I was told I would be covered for specific items. When claims were submitted EVERYTHING was denied citing pre-existing condition. Prescriptions ARE NOT covered, even generic. Customer service is horrible. Even when I went to cancel the policy the employee was arguing with me. Horrible company.
