Overall Rating: 4.3 / 5 (Excellent)

LifeShield short-term health insurance plans offer consumers affordability and flexibility. The company operates in 30 states, including Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, among others. LifeShield offers two short-term health plans to choose from: Lifeshield Advantage and LifeShield Flex. Both plans offer coverage for preventive/wellness care, diagnostics services, inpatient hospital services, ER, urgent care facility, and ambulance services. Additionally, the company offers limited coverage for mental health care, substance abuse, and physical, occupational, and speech coverage, which is great, since many short-term insurance providers don’t offer coverage for these.

Like most short-term health plans, LifeShield’s plans don’t cover maternity or newborn care. However, unlike other providers, LifeShield doesn’t provide any coverage when it comes to outpatient laboratory services or x-rays. Additionally, the company doesn’t have an online member portal for account management or a mobile app. Customer support is provided via email or over the phone. That being said, although LifeShield offers affordable short-term plans, with flexible terms to choose from, its plans are much more limited than those offered by other providers reviewed by us, so we encourage consumers to do some research before purchasing.

Worst "insurance" money can be wasted on. 6 months since my surgery without payment. They keep telling my doctor, and now me, that they have not received the claim. I have fax confirmations as well as letters from them showing they have received everything they need to pay. I have called, faxed, emailed, and ground mailed letter after letter after letter with them STILL saying they have not received anything. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

They are the worst health insurance company I have ever dealt with. They denied all of my claims so I had to get a lawyer and appeal and won the case. Their customer services is horrible and they still have not paid the full amount to my providers after winning the case. Do your self a favor and never let any of yourself, friends, or loved ones use Lifeshield for short term health insurance!

Got stuck for $16,000 in hospital bills (emergency room and followup procedures for illness)....... that Lifeshield refused to pay... Another lady from Missouri had a gun safe fall on her wrist, and was denied $9,000 in emergency and orthopedic surgical follow-ups...... Filed a complaint with the Oklahoma City Better Business bureau where Lifeshield is headquartered, I discovered they are a non-accredited business with a "F" rating and 33 consumer complaints..... Not cool to exploit poor folks who need insurance...... Shane on you!!!!!!

Agree with others below. They are experts at not paying claims. Plan to report to State department of Insurance.

We (two healthy, nonsmoking young adults) had this company for health insurance for almost a year. During this time, they dodged and denied the ONE claim we made, for emergency appendectomy for my husband. They denied the $90k bill. Said they'd give us $2500 towards our max out of pocket, but max out of pocket doesn't apply so we still owe the $9k the hospital billed us after re-running it as if we didn't have insurance. Which we might as well not have. The insurance agent dodged, ignored, and refused to answer any questions. This is a scam, pure and simple. Do not recommend this policy.

My wife has been to Dr office, ER, and urgent care for various reasons in 2019. Accident, illness, and prescription refill ect.... The hospital and Dr office verified they have sent medical records 2x, but Lifeshield continues to report not receiving. We have since been turned into collections and the hospital says they always have issues with Lifeshield not responding, losing records and not paying their portion of bills, This started last Feb 2019 and we owe over $800 and collections are sending us notices. I am now sitting on hold with Lifeshield and the automated system says wait time 1 minute - its been 15 minutes. 0 stars from me!!

I had this group for 1 year. They never paid for any medical bills. They claimed everything was preexisting services. On renewal, they wanted to raise the monthly premium over $100 per month. Stay away from this company!!
