Overall Rating: 2.8 / 5 (Average)

PetPremium offers solid coverage inline with most of the companies on our list. However, coverage is not available in every state, and the low prices quotes apply to the company's lower-tier plans that have per incident caps. If you want the higher plans -- which go up to unlimited annual benefits -- it is going to be a higher premium than most of the comparable plans on our list.

PetPremium Coverage

Coverage - 2.5 / 5

PetPremium offers Accident Only coverage as well as Total coverage. The company also offers two tiers of wellness plans that cover anything from microchip implant to dental cleanings. Although the wellness component is, by comparison, robust, the two flagship plans offer coverage that is standard in the pet insurance marketplace. Although pulses are both accident and illness plans cover alternative treatments, and Total coverage will pay for behavioral problems.

Terrible insurance never again. I’ve probably paid them more than they have paid me. They also made two mistakes on reimbursements.

Buyer beware! Policy has a clause which allows them to only pay what they claim is customary charges. These charges are not transparent so instead of a 90% policy you really get a 60% of coverage. This allows them to pay very little of the actual claim. Stay Away! $1488 claim they only paid $574. I've been a customer for about a year and a half and I have to sya I like what they have to offer. I have submitted several claims and the reimbursement process was simple and painless. Not everything was covered, but that is how it is with any insurance. What I like about their website is the vast amount of information about pet health and services. They actually do a lot more than just sell insurance. And they really care about pets. Their customer service always has been professional and helpful. wish they could also insure my other pets other than cats and dogs alone. - Daisy

I've had Pet Premium for a year. It's the first time I've had to purchase pet insurance. I've submitted 2 claims in total. The first was for my cat's spaying. They were slow to payout. I believe the total process took 2 weeks for payment. The second claim was for her shots and other preventative care. That was paid out within a week. My cat is an indoor cat so I'll think I'll be changing to something less expense of cutting back on my coverages with Pet Premium. Their website was cumbersome and confusing at first. I wasn't able to see my cat's plan online, but they've since updated this. But all other policy management has to be handled over the phone. Their customer service... Read More
