Sleep Comfort Corp., headquartered in Minneapolis, manufactures and sells adjustable-firmness beds and other sleep accessories from their website and 440 retail stores. They were founded in 1987, and sell their mattresses under the name Sleep Number, referring to their innovative technology that controls firmness levels.

Size and Firmness

All Sleep Number beds allow customers to adjust the firmness, comfort and support for each individual side, by controlling the air in the mattress.

They offer all basic sizes for adults except for Twin, although they do manufacture beds for children which include this size.

Additionally, Sleep Number beds can be purchased for RVs in the following sizes: Short Queen, Short Queen Radius, Queen, Queen Radius, King, RV King, and RV King Radius.

Sleep Number mattresses have a number of models to choose from, with different technical specifications, though these always have DualAir™ adjustability for customizable firmness, a minimum 8” of height, and a knit fabric cover. Additional features can include varying heights of up to 14”, 3” PlushFit™ layer, a temperature balancing sleep surface, SleepIQ™ technology that monitors your sleep and adjusts the bed accordingly, and as many as seven layers of contouring support. Their newest product, the 360 bed, goes a step further to automatically sense and adjust to each sleeper, without needing to set things themselves.

Purchase Details

With all the technology and innovation in each Sleep Number model, it’s no surprise that they have a particularly high price point, despite their available sales. However, their 25-year limited warranty for defects not associated with normal use is above and beyond the industry standard, applying to not only the mattress itself, but also to the Firmness Control™ system. If it also includes a SleepIQ® module, this has a 2-year warranty. During the first two years, any repair or replacement needed is covered by Sleep Number, at no cost to the customer. Thereafter, the repair or replacement cost is determined by a percentage of the current prices for the item in question.

Their 100-night sleep trial is fairly standard for the industry.

Customer Service and Reputation

Sleep Number enjoys an excellent A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, despite a high percentage of complaints, most of which center on delivery times and customer service once purchased. Likewise, their TrustPilot score is only 5.4 out of a possible 10, with the two customer reviews being negative.
