Sleep Number makes a wide range of beds to fit every customer's needs and budget. Its products are perfect for couples, as their design allows each partner to adjust their side of the bed to fit their desired firmness without disturbing the other person. Though the company's beds are on the more expensive end of the mattress spectrum, this feature may be enough to justify the cost. Additionally, Sleep Number offers a 25-year warranty that goes above and beyond those provided by competitors. On a different note, customer reviews for the company veer toward the negative, yet that may be due to its large size and broad client base.

Sleep Number Product Features

Product Specs - 3.5 / 5

Sleep Number mattresses are made of a combination of contouring foam layers and a layer of air pockets that can be inflated and deflated to reach the perfect level of firmness, which is expressed in the famous "sleep number." In beds that accommodate two people, the level of firmness of each side of the mattress can be adjusted independently, allowing each sleeper to make their side of the bed as firm or soft as they find comfortable. The company fails to list the exact materials used in the manufacturing of their mattresses.

Sleep Number offers six mattress models. The core line is composed of the c2 and c4 beds, which are the most affordable ones. The c2 model lacks a comfort layer, while the c4 features SleepIQ technology, which tracks sleep habits. The 360 Smart Bed line, on the other hand, has the p5, p6, i7, i8, and i10 models. The difference between these models is the thickness of the comfort layer. Additionally, the "i" models have a "temperature balancing sleep surface," that helps owners sleep cooler at night. All 360 Smart Beds have SleepIQ technology and Responsive Air technology, which respond to the sleeper's movements to adjust firmness automatically.

According to Sleep Number, its beds are not compatible with traditional box spring foundations, so their own base must be purchased. Customers can choose between the integrated base and a range of adjustable bases that control the position of the head and feet and may also feature foot warming and under-bed lighting.

Sleep Number Pricing

Pricing and Policies - 4.5 / 5

Sleep Number beds are on the more expensive side of the spectrum, though this can be attributed to the uniqueness of its product. The price below reflects the cost of the P6 Queen-sized mattress, which is the mid-range Sleep Number model. Likewise, the price of the adjustable bed is that of the FlexFit 2, also the mid-range model. Customers interested in purchasing a Sleep Number bed should note that a traditional box spring does not provide the right amount of support for a Sleep Number mattress. The company recommends purchasing its simple integrated base, which retails for $299, or a FlexFit adjustable base, which is non-returnable.

Service Features - 4.3 / 5

Sleep Number's 100-night sleep trial for its mattresses is fairly standard for the industry. However, its 25-year limited warranty for defects not associated with normal use is above the industry standard, applying not only to the mattress but also to the Firmness Control system. The SleepIQ module also includes a 2-year warranty. During the first two years, any repair or replacement needed is covered by Sleep Number at no cost to the customer. Thereafter, the repair or replacement cost is determined by a percentage of the current prices for the item in question.

Sleep Number Company Reputation

Company Reputation - 3.5 / 5

Sleep Number holds an A+ with the Better Business Bureau. It has a large number of negative customer reviews and complaints, though that is to be expected with a company of its size and age. These complaints seem to revolve around defects in the Sleep Number bed. Several customers also point out that adjustable bases are non-returnable and the 100-night trial only applies to the mattress itself, which suggests these customers may not have read the entire product description before their purchase.

Our base malfunctioned last night. Half of the bed is stuck in the upright position (we do not have a split mattress, mind you), but the remote and app incorrectly show that the bed is flat. I contacted support... wait, not really, because it's Sunday and they don't have 24/7 phone support. Their "chat agent" support - in its entirety - consists of "try turning it off and back on again". So we now have no bed to sleep on tonight. After paying $7,000 less than two years ago. I would never have bought a Sleep Number bed if I had known just how terrible their support is. If you're in the market for a new bed, skip Sleep Number. You can find something for half the price with... Read More

Two years after purchasing a $4000 Sleep Number i8 King plus a $4000 base, I realize I have paid a fortune for a glorified air mattress that no longer holds air. Sleep Number calls the problem, "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". What??!! To fix the problem, (1) I go to store to pick up caps (2) I call 800 number for instructions (3) I lift up mattress and awkwardly install cap on air chamber tube. (4) The mattress still loses its air overnight. (5) I call Customer Service again and they inform me that I have to purchase the Chamber parts and pay for a service call. This is not covered under the 25 year warranty and shame on me for not reading the warranty to understand it prior to purchasing the... Read More

I just purchased a replacement topper foam and was charged $283.13 for a piece of egg-crate king size foam that Walmart sells the exact same thing for $33.00 with FREE shipping.

I was to have my P5 360 bed with remote and with adjustable frame delivered on 7/28. I got a call on 7/26 from Sleep Number telling me there is a defect in my adjustable frame so my order can not be delivered until 8/4. On 8/4 the delivery men only had the adjustable base and no mattress or remote. The delivery men stated my delivery was a warranty for the base. After a frustrating call that had me on wait for a half hour the rep said that I won't get my mattress and remote until 8/13. sleep Number might have a comfortable bed but I sure as hell am not finding out anytime soon. Terrible communication and delivery time for this company.

SLEEP NUMBER SERVICE SUCKS.... I bought the CAL. King, dual controls and paid in full. Now for the second time the air pump or something doesn't keep the air in the mattress. It deflates as I sleep in it--I'm 119 lbs. Duh? Sleep Number wants to pre-charge me $200 just for a tech to check it out. IF A TECH SHOWS UP, THIS IS NEW MEXICO. Then if there's parts, and again for the tech to come out and fix it. What kinda a stupidity is this. II would never recommend Sleep Number to anyone. $500 just to get your bed fixed...Think again folks..Its a scam on repairs. I am a hairdresser and have a following nation wide. Im now going to sleep on a deflated mattress cause I... Read More

My first Sleep Number bed was great and considering I bought it in 1999 and had no trouble with it at all. Now I have purchased my second Sleep Number bed with all the bells and whistles just a month ago and it is exactly what I need and require at my age and I was born in 1935, love it!
