Although they advertise that they cover crowns, not in my case. Paid premiums on time for over 2 years and when the dentist prescribed a crown, they refused to cover it. I disputed 2 times. When I called, I was told that their “third-party contractors” refused the claim. When pressed, they never said the claim was ever reviewed by any medical professional. I cancelled shortly after.

Physicians Mutual dropped out dentist without any notice in the middle of a Medicare open-enrollment period -- right before I was eligible for some coverage of a dental crown. In addition, they provided NO COVERAGE for an emergency tooth extraction and related bone graft. I urge anyone to avoid their dental product, which is essentially worthless....

When I contacted PM Dental plan rep, I explained the needed dental insurance was for my son, who needed extensive work done as soon as possible. Was assured “no problem, here are the plans”. So I purchased the coverage - it was fine until he tried to use the service for a compacted wisdom tooth extraction, then it was a different “story”. Since, I’ve listened to every dental commercial and paused to read any fine print - which is None - there is not one disclaimer in ANY commercial that states “you must have coverage for one year before any major dental work is approved”. Their commercials IMPLY that ALL dental work is covered immediately - that is Not True. And because my son is... Read More

I don’t know what dental school you go to but the one in the Kansas City area does not take any kind of insurance so you have to be prepared to pay 100% of the bills yourself… However I appreciate your comments for you have saved me a bunch of money and time in filling insurance claims…. Thank you, Win

I am very disappointed with Physician Mutual Dental Insurance . They are very good to collect monthly payments but when you file a claim they deny or pay penny on a dollar. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS INSURANCE !

Enrolled in 2105 at age 73 and been paying since. Used for preventative as I had major work done prior to enrolling. Now for the first time my dentist sends in claim for crown replacement and its denied. What's concerning is the "reason - " poor prognosis" Seems like PM has a death panel that denies claims once you reach a certain age.

HORRIBLE customer service. Only available midweek, on hold forever, only to learn I have to submit cancel request in writing (or fax... stone age?). Oh, by the way, "we're already processing your next month's pymt... too late." Plenty of apologies, but no action.

Your website gives no pricing or examples of pricing for Out of Network dental work. I'm not changing dentist! So what is your Basic, Preventive and Major coverage for out of network?

I'm glad I did research before I sent in my application. This "insurance" and company, look to be a nightmare waiting to happen! Thank you everyone for posting your reviews for others to see.

I don't know what plan you had at Physicians mutual but i pay $48 a month and get great coverage, the dental school i go to bills them for me. I have no regrets from them as they have paid for many crowns i have had done, and i have to pay zero now as i have added a couple of ryders to my policy. I go to a dental school as my dental dollars go much further, and i get great care. So thank you Physicians Mutual. Yes they can be slow sometimes in paying for my dental work, but they have always paid my bills.

Recently stopped using Physicians Mutual. Not sure why I stayed with them several years. Poorly run company. They'll initially deny almost every claim you make while offering very little in dental coverage. My dentist office told me they are the worst in payments and communication. You're better off paying your dentist in cash, and dropping your premium payments and the hassle of working with this company. It will save you a lot of time and probably some money too.

Why can't I get coverage in Minnesota?? is there another company in Mn that does what you do? I have a Medicare Advantage Plan that only covers 1,000.00 of dental work.

I paid Physicians Mutual Dental Insurance for 3 years first time using this Insurance I paid my dentist in full $700.00 and all they sent me back is $133 for reimbursement not a happy customer I was at least expecting a little more

While I find this coverage at $1500.00 per year for advanced treatments such as inlays & onlays, crowns, and bridges to be good as well as being able to choose any Dentist, I find the amounts PMD pays out for the 2 cleanings ex rays and exams per year to not be enough for today's Dental services. I think they need to look at today's costs and re-evaluate what they pay for these things.

I see 12 comments, but only 1 of them is 1/2 decent, so how do they get a rating of 3.9 stars? I just glanced at the stars, and asked for the literature to be sent to me. Upon reviewing the brochures....Their 'flat fee reimbursement' vs copays is an insult, I dont think any dentist would charge less than double their reimbursements quoted in the brochure. In addition, they dont really make clear if your premium is 'monthly' or for the full year. If it is for the former, you would have to replace every tooth in your mouth to make it worthwhile!

Paid over $400 in coverage premiums and the first time I used it they only paid$88.00. Drop per it immediately.

Bad company for refunding unused premiums, also will lock you out of your account so that you cannot use there services. Other wise good for discount dental procedures. I suggest that you go to Delta Dental or BlueCrossBlueShield instead.

Bad company will not refund unused portion of premium very good for discounts so far just will not give you back a refund on your premium when canceled.

I been making monthly payments for almost 2 years and never used my insurance at all until 2 months ago I inquired about several procedures that I needed done and was given an estimate after what physician mutual covers. Finds out it would only cover $1200 out of $5200. This just didn't sound right. Paid in so much and get so little in return.

Our dentist is listed as being in network, however, in speaking with our dentist office they say they accept this insurance but have a lot of issues with them. They are also adamant that they are NOT in the network even though this website shows them as such. Another scam.
